  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Best genre out there really.

Honestly though, DT has dried up and will probably never get out of their slump due to their inability to get rid of Jordan Rudess and his tired and boring style of composition. Symphony X is more of a mood kinda band for me, despite their incredible talent and the awesome vocals of Russell Allen (even better in Arjen Lucassens Star One albums though). Mars Volta got boring to me more recently, but Coheed is still doing great stuff, though I wish they would keep with going forward, instead of spinning their wheels like they did with the new record, which was still pretty good. BTBAM is terrible, music and all, as they just recycle ideas from good bands. You want to hear a good tech metal band? Spiral Architect! Atheist! Cynic! Watchtower! Later era Death!

Gah, rant...okay...

shredmetal2112 on AIM. I got plenty of bands I can recommend. Don't get me wrong, I like DT as well, but I think they have just given up on being a great band anymore, and are just riding the wave of popularity that comes from the fact that they are a good gateway drug for progressive metal. There are tons of great bands out there that get ignored though.

Nice to see Visual Cliff on there. One of those well hidden bands. I still haven't dropped the cash on an album from them yet.

Amen to that! I love Neal Morse. Especially his "Testimony"solo album. Awesome music, featuring DT's drummer and Kerry Livgren no less. Im a huge prog fan, though more of the classic and neo-prog i.e. Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Marillion, Procupine Tree, Spocks Beard etc. I like alot of Dream Theaters music and I like alot of the more prog/metal stuff; I need to check it out more.
