Mind altering substances...

Like I said before, I don't see why so many people feel they need to escape from reality. I realize life isn't always great but... I would rather be in the moment than blazed out of my mind and not remember half my life.
Because there are too many people out there that are unhappy with life but are not willing/able to do what it takes to turn their lives in the direction they want it to go in - so rather than make sacrifices, they escape.

My two best friends from HS both have problems with alcohol and "mood enhancers". One of them won't talk to me at all anymore b/c my life is so different than hers. The other one regularly asks me how I ended up so much better of and happier than they are. I have told her until I was blue in the face, that it's my faith and my refusal to allow negative energy to control my life that has helped me get to where I am. It's apparent she wants her life to be different, but she isn't able/willing to make the sacrifices necessary - so she drinks and pops pills. It's sad.

LOL

If you notice, I said "a" gateway drug, not "the" gateway drug. ;)
Personally, I think diphenhydramine is more dangerous than pot, given it's intense hallucinatory capacity. I will always be firm in my antagonism of benedryl! :preach:

Great. My oldest has taken benadryl for 4 years now for severe dust allergies. My youngest is allergic to cats and is now having to take it when he goes to their dad's house - b/c his dad's GF has 5 cats and just moved in with them.

Shall I paint psychadellic colors on their walls the next time they go for a visit? lol

I had regular old budweiser last night... is that better?

NO!

I think he used to smoke it a lot, then quit for a long time. He wasn't smoking when I met him, then he just started doing it regularly again. He doesn't do it every night, but probably 3 or 4 times a week, and it's been a lot more frequent as of late.

See, I hear

1. used to do it
2. stopped.
3. started dating GBM2L
4. increased frequency

and to me that equates to:

1. used to do it.
2. stopped to be a different person.
3. girls likes him for who he is NOW.
4. see how much of old self he can get away with now that girl is emotionally involved.
5. wait, so I can have a high quality chick and STILL be my old self?
6. ????
7. PROFIT

That's some black and white, devil's advocate thinking, but when you add the possibility that he doesn't realize he's being manipulative, and isn't doing it intentionally or even consciously, then yeah, I wouldn't be suprised if he starts doing MORE stuff he never used to do when you met him now that subconciously he knows he can get away with what makes himself happy because, sorry to say it, you'll put up with it.

to me it all just seems like, acting liek a nice guys hooks the decent girl, then she's got an emotional connection, time to go back, and all that just fuels ego, compounding the decline of the relationship.

Well, just make sure they don't take 6 or more benedryl at the same time, or else they'll start seeing people raising out of the floor from a pile of clothes in the corner. It's weird stuff.

Link (Be warned, it has some bad stuff in there)

Careful Spicy - your intelligence is showing again. :p

Gottabe - he's spot on with what he described. Having been married to a guy that pulled a similar scenario on me - I have one word of advice... RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN! :sorry:

oh, and IMO, the kicker is,

he's probably a decent guy, you're probably a nice girl.

So you see the good in him and are forgiving, he's blissfully unaware of the long term consequences of his actions.

That's why so many people get into bad situations. Not saying yours is, but it's really hard to see that a guy is truely taking responsibility and in turn, taking care of his girl. It takes a long time for that to be realized, and because of that, alot of truly good guys get over looked and complain that girls only date jerks.

you know what's funny?

I'm still using my pitch-counter to track how many times I swear each week, then I turn it over to my men's group for the accountability thing.

previous to this: hundreds of times each week, if not daily.
week1: 33
week2: 8
week3: 2 or 4
this week: I *WAS* at one, but I read your comment, looked around the room (as if you people were here) and exclaime "OH S***!"

so I'm at 2 now. thank you for ruining my trend down to zero.

If you want to get high without the negatives that are associated with drugs, things like physical activity and music are healthy alternatives.

weightlifting = endorphines.

I know I'm addicted.

my body doesn't show it (the addiction, lolfatlol), but when I'm not lifting I go through withdrawl.

But see, what's the difference?

I used to be addicted to running long distances. A 10 mile run is the only thing I have experienced to compare to getting high. It's that feeling... It's "mind-altering". So why is running 10 miles ok, but smoking a blunt isn't?

...someone please tell me what's so great about smoking marijuana.

i can conceive of things that would be seen as great. these are the reasons why i did it when i was in college.

i was young and stupid and couldn't deal with the fact that i had a bad family history. so pot, the drug intensifies the feel good receptors in your brain and made you feel high...thus high away from your problems. when your stoned, i think its very hard to harp on the problems in your life and when you haven't reached a maturity of dealing with things in your life good, the quick route becomes the most "matured". the sensations you get from the drug poisoning you, or making you high, is actually pretty "fleshly" if you will and quite satisfying for the moment.

but that's not an advantage in my opinion. its a drug that i'm convinced wastes your life away. you become addicted to that mental sensation of being free from the problems of life. its a mind tease with a little physical tease with it. even tho i'll never forget the one time i did it, i had vibrations all over my body, and another time i did, i kept rocking back and forth and the stoner/stupid hippie g/f i had just rubbed my back and saying its normal while we are all sitting in white suburbia getting high as a kite and your site become quite odd, at least mine did. thinking i was over a bridge when i was just driving on a street, or when i'm driving 65mph on the highway and everything looks like Star Wars(any episode).

so my opinion there is no real advantage, but there are moment of advantages for it. like any drug, that moment of release from the problems in your life is something enough reason to indulge yourself in that vice. it just it'll always end up not being an advantage at all.

You're not putting anything into your body that creates that high - it's truly a natural experience.

his problems are not your fault or responsibility. if they ARE, of if you MAKE THEM that, you're looking at co-dependancy.

And by that I mean he's going to be weak, dependant on you for self worth, and eventually worried that you'll leave him, which can lead to him cheating on you.

Or so I've seen, only I was the emotional BF that cared about the girl this happened too.

So it sucks for all three people involved, you need to aim higher.

nah, that'd be mean. I'm re-bottling the white merlot today. It was cloudy, but when it settled it looked awesome, so, it's pretty obvious I had some sediment in there.

I don't mean to brag, but this stuff is already awesome, and it hasn't even matured yet.
