  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Made me smile :)

Yeah, Chet Atkins. My grandfather, who is an amazing guitar player, and probably about the biggest Chet Atkins fan in the world had me listen to some of his stuff, and the man was just amazing. Chet was just so good, he was beyond most anything I could imagine. And very different than the other country players of his time. The tendency to use higher notes, jazzy little runs that nobody else, for the most part, seemed to really be doing. Functioning on a very different level than most, cause at that point, a lot of the country guitar guys were just rythym players with a few extra tricks, where with Chet, almost everything he played was a real showpiece. And his fingerpicking was incredible. As for those other artists, I'll definately look into them, thanks for the recommend :)

Oh, and I am VERY disappointed that I haven't seen Buckethead more on these lists.

He is a freaking guitar god. He can play ANY genre flawlessly, from funk to metal to jazz to rock to bluegrass to anything else, and can both shred your socks off and play with the most emotion I've ever heard. He is amazing.

On the Heavy Metal side Randy Rhoads is rumored to have been the best in the world and from what I know about him and his relationship with Ozzy Osbourne it is his death that put Ozzy over the edge in the early 80's and according to all of the reports that I have heard Ozzy never would have made it through the whole thing if it were not for his wife Sharon Osbourne.
