  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There are two callings in scripture , one may be frustrated and rejected the other never is .

There are some , usually Arminians , who see only an outer call ; The Gospel call .

There are others , usually Hyper-Calvinists who see only an inner call , efficacious and always effective.

first let's look at the premise that there is only an outer call .

If there is only an outer call then how is this text anything other than a text in favour of Universalism ?

Romans 8

[28] And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
[29] For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
[30] Moreover whom he did predestinate,
them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

obviously not all outwardly called are justified or glorified , many outwardly called are destined for wrath.

Rather this scripture , and there are others , speak of the "INNER CALL " which is always effectual.

All born again believers are justified and called to a holy calling as ambassadors of Christ with the ministry of reconciliation. The inner call is a fiction.

No the inner call is the only call Gods make..The outer call is fictional..it does not exsist..There is only one call scripture teaches..

eph 4

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

The spirit who does the calling, calls the elect, the chosen ones into participation in the body of christ..

Many take one verse out of context:

matt 22

For many are called, but few are chosen.

Within the universal proclamation of the gospel, as it goes out to the elect , many who its not for hear it, though they were not chosen to be the recipients of it, they were not chosen to be partakers of it..as in heb 3:

1Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

In christ public ministry , many heard christ teachings as he called out his elect..

Those who hold to a two call theology are just as doubleminded and inconsistent as those who hold to God has two wills, both are fables..:amen:

I meant where it talks about the actual terminology.... You are taking the scripture and you manipulate it to fit the premise you try to prove ....

And that is not right because you are taking all these verses out of context.
Like Matt 22 "many are called but few are chosen" If you read the beggining of chapter 22 Christ talks of the parable of the great banquet... There he talks about election.... He invites the elected but....they do not come... they ignore him... (because they have free will) they straight out deny Him ...that is we all have been elected... but we have to accept the invitation that God offers to be chosen. This is the right context of that passage. In order for us to "chosen" we need to be "open" and willing to accept his calling us. If you look in the parable God offered an "invitation" out ... plain and simple...
the same applies for all other verses you are interpret them out of their true context...

God bless,

I do not think this is proper way to interpret the parables, i.e. read them as allegory.

Where are both based on the bible? Can you provide at least that?

yes , "many were called but few chosen " now contrast that CALL , with this call ;

Romans 8

[28] And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
[29] For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
[30] Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

also we are "to make our calling and election sure" , but do we really think Peter is talking about the memory of the day you heard the Gospel ....... of course not!

I already explained that , your point is mute.. and making one calling and election sure has nothing to do with their being one call as their is one election.duh.

the point is far from mute , you only can see one call , the scripture speaks of a general call , are you not aware that God calls all men ?

Hyper -Calvinists see only the inner call

Armoninans see only the outer call

Calvinists and scripture see clearly that there are two distinct calls , one is a general call which goes out to all men ; elect and reprobate .

Then there is the inner call , called the effectual call , which is for the elect only , this is why Peter says to make your calling (and election) sure ........ but who needs to make their outer calling sure , it is certain , one merely has to remember THAT outer call , Peter is not refering to a call that cannot be disputed but a call that can !

Donald Grey Barnhouse helps with the distinction between the general call of the gospel and the effectual call to salvation. “If men heed no more than the outward call, they become members of the visible church. If the inward call is heard in our hearts, we become members of the invisible church. The first call unites us merely to a group of professing members; but the inward call unites us to Christ Himself, and to all that have been born again.
“The outward call may bring with it a certain intellectual knowledge of the truth; the inward call brings us the faith of the heart, the hope which anchors us forever to Christ and the love which must ever draw us back to Him who first loved us. The one can end in formalism, the other in true life. The outward call may curb the tendencies of the old nature and keep a soul in outward morality; the inward call will cure the plague that is in us and bring us on to triumph in Christ” (God’s Heirs: Exposition of Bible Doctrines . . . , vol. 7, pp. 171, 172).

The external call, is found in scripture. Many are called but few are chosen, refers to the external call. Those that respond to the external call of the gospel of Christ, and whose faith is credited as righteousness, are referred to as "the called" which is another way of referring to born again believers as saints or those set apart by God. The call is simply this, whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. So those who responded to the external call to salvation are seen in Romans 8:28 (who are called according to His purpose). The calling in Romans 8:30 refers to our holy calling in Christ, not our call to salvation.

The inner call is a fiction.

Romans 8 is clearly about salvation , arminians cannot but grasp only the simplest truths , a general call is not the efficacious call which is uncondtional and tied to election and predestination and is only for the elect.

have you made your calling sure .......... which one and why ?

1Cor. 1:26 "For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise,"

election is the forunner of our calling without it election is meaningless.

as if our calling in Christ and our election and perseverance in Christ can be seperated from our salvation !!!!!! not !

clearly this is not the general call ;

Heb. 9:15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

2 Peter 1:10: Therefore brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble.

Note that first we are called and then we are chosen from among those called. Many are called but few are chosen. So the order from scripture is first we hear the eternal call of the gospel, then we respond, then God credits our faith as righteousness, then God chooses us and sets us apart. Good works does not provide salvation, they demonstrate salvation. Thus by being diligent in good works, we make certain of God's calling and choosing us for salvation.

placing calling before election is a FICTION.
