On the other hand it can be understood as a form of unceasing prayer where in everything you do, you acknowledge your God in mind, heart and body and are constantly reminded of His presence. The entire person is involved. He is not denied in one single aspect of your life

Intent is everything

Q
Very possible but you could just as easily wear a cross or have a cross on a ring to remind you.

You idea runs parallel with what I was doing doing up until last year. I was involved with Christian bikers and we all felt that we wore our Christianity on our sleeves. Wearing our "colors" and leathers always reminded us that we were Christians and also that other people saw us and were reminded that Jesus is Lord and were observing our witness. Much like a minister wearing a collar.

But you would not consider the things you list above to be Pharesitical in nature, but making the sign of the cross is...correct?

Remember, the Pharisees were judged just as much for their long fringes and large phylacteries as their loud rambling public prayers.

I sometimes cross myself in public. I don't do it to be thought of as "ooh look how holy SHE is!" I do it because it is FOR ME a reminder that I am in His presence all the time...but especially more so while in prayer.

And I had to :swoon: But I agreed when Qoheleth said

I agree. I have known people who when they go out to a restaurant, they will pray just a little extra loudly so that people will overhear.

Well that's a sure fire way to invite a little religious "persecution" into your life. Maybe they do that because they secretly desire to be a martyr and "suffer" for their faith.

The people I have met that like to do things like that, want to debate with others. They do it to get attention. (at least the ones I have met)

There are those who may very well be "all show", but who am I to judge.

On the other hand we, all of us, could only pray to be blessed with martyrdom.

Im pretty sure it means that you love your God, recognize His presence, thank Him and invite Him into every moment of your life.

Q
Same thing, isn't it? ;)

Yes, that was only a joke! :p

Ooohhh! Got me! LOL

I'll admit, I've often thought of what I'd "be" if I weren't MS Lutheran. Orthodoxy was one of those that seemed...right. But not as right as Confessional Lutheran.

:D

The people I knew who prayed in public didn't do it loudly but they did all join hands, bow their head and pray audibly. It made me uncomfortable the one time I did join them in prayer before a meal, because prayer is a private, sacred time between me and God. Not between, myself, God and the entire viewing public. I've never understood that whole praying in public thing anyway. The Bible says we are to pray without ceasing, so why not pray a prayer of thanksgiving from the parking lot to the front door of the restaurant? Why make a show of it? We are to pray behind closed doors, not in public like the pagans do. Like I said, I've never understood it.
