  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And this is why I sit in front of my computer, next to my perfectly functional PS2, laughing at all the people waiting for hours upon hours to get these "awesome new consoles". And why I am one of the few customers who won't have problems with my consoles (or at least, nowhere near as many). I play to get a PS3. I also would love to get a Revolution. But I'm going to wait for these problems to go away. Then I'll be a happy customer.

Now, if I could trust these dang companies to put out quality stuff on the first try, I'd be far more likely to be one of those crazy people waiting in line for 14 hours.
It's rare for people to get new consoles messed up, and even if they, they get a new one with in a week.
Nothing wrong with my 360, had it since day one.

Well that's news to me. Besides you have to pay for it, if it does exist.
True. It will probably be almost a year before PCs catch up with the PS3 unless they start modifying/making more PC games to utilize 64bit features, in which case, they are already there.

And how many games do they make for this high end PC?

10's of thousands. I mean, it's a PC so all PC games will run on it.

1)That's only a few problems.
2)Problems are to be expected in the release of anything electronic.
3)Don't put ps3 in the same place as 360, the 360 is the utter epitome of problems and glitches.
4)If this is to say that consoles have problems and pc's don't then it didn't work for me, I've had my pc mess-up on me sooooo much that it's not even funny. I've never ever had my ps2 mess-up on me.
5)Pc's have the same problems when something new comes out.

I don't know if you're being a wise guy or not, but how many games are out there on PC that you will need a 2 teraflop PC to run them?

PS1 and 2 games will run on PS3, but does that mean they were made for the PS3. They were made for the PS1 and 2, but can also run on the PS3.

PS1 and 2 games will run on PS3, but does that mean they were made for the PS3. They were made for the PS1 and 2, but can also run on the PS3.

Yet every PC game was made to run on a PC so a PC game will run on a PC because a PC is a PC, not a PC 1 or a PC 2. ;)

But, honestly, comparing PCs and consoles is like comparing apples and oranges. I don't understand all the hardware differences that make a 32bit PC capable of running circles around a 128bit console.

As far as capabilities, the 32bit architecture seems to be near its limit to compare with what consoles can do for power but when more games start coming out designed for 64bit Windows, PCs will leap back out ahead and it will start all over. When I was running Windows 64, I installed the patch that converts Far Cry to 64bit and the difference was pretty stunning. There was a 30%-40% improvement across the board. Graphics, frames, etc.

I want to get an FX processor so I can try Halflife 2 with all the enhancements that will be available for the PS3 version.

Oh, and before you start crying "fanboy," I'm not a PC fanboy or any other kind of fanboy. I plan to get a Wii or 360 for Christmas depending on how finances work out. I've had an Xbox and a PS2 and enjoyed both of them. None of them are inherently better than each other, they are all different and cater to different groups.

It's rare for immediate problems, but look at how many early XBox's an PS2's people have run through. The early ones rarely last as long as the later ones, and I plan on making a long term investment. That's not to say that it's not possible to get a good early one. My PS2 slimline was the first of the slimline models, and I've never had any problems with it. My XBox has worked fine (I've managed to overheat it a few times, but that was from like 6 or 7 hours straight with the xbox in a semi-confined area). I have an original gameboy, an early gameboy color, and early gba, and the first of the DS lites, and every one of those have worked perfectly since day one and still do. I'm just not willing to place a $600 bet that I'll luck out.

I'm still trying to figure out how people got the message that my original post was saying that PC is better than consoles or that PCs are without glitches. I never said anything like that - I didn't even compare them in terms of power.

I compared them in terms of function. Game consoles are being bogged down these days with too many functions of a PC - things a game console DOESN'T need! I realize the need for online play, and I accept that. But there's no need for shopping, video downloads, webcams, etc. That's what PCs are for.

Game consoles should be about GAMES. That's all. Nintendo had the right philosophy this time around as far as I'm concerned. I just hope they get the bugs ironed out of the Wii before I pick one up (which hopefully will be next weekend if either of the local Best Buy's restock anytime soon).

If not, I'll guess I'll just stay away from the WiiConnect function until they do.

Agreed. Today's consoles cost way too much to HOPE you'll get a working one.

I own a NES, SNES, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube. Of those systems, my Xbox only reads discs when it wants to (and this is my SECOND Xbox - shoulda got another replacement plan on this one like I did the last) and my PS2 laser is struggling, though it eventually will read the disc if I let it sit there for an extra few minutes.

Every other console I own works - INCLUDING my NES (original brick design, not the smaller second gen one) and my SNES (again, original design). Yes, I have to blow in the cartridges, but then they power right up every time.

That tells me that the PS2/Xbox era ushered in a new level of shoddy hardware - one that has apparently gotten worse with the 360/PS3/Wii generation.

I 100% agree. I spent $1800 on a computer that can do anything. I want to spend $200-$300 on a GAME console that plays GAMES on a big tv. I don't need a second computer.

Nintendos photo channel however is just plain stupidity. I don't like the weather and news channel either.

I know, they're a smart idea to use as hooks for drawing others in... but ehhhh. I myself will hardly use them.

Browser? Brilliant feature. Have you been to wii arcade? Thats gonna rule =)

My older brother's friend also had his 360 destroy his game...
Anyway, I want a 360 with my ps3, I just thought putting ps3 in the same place with 360 was kind of stupid (no offence intended).

Browser? Brilliant feature.

Hmm... As far as I knew, the Wii Browser was just a web browser. Is there something special about it that I don't know about?

If not, then what's so brilliant about having a web browser on a console? Again, my PC does that just fine.

As for the Wii Photos and Weather and stuff - yeah, I agree it's not needed. But Nintendo hasn't exactly promoted them as their top draw, either.

My co-worker's 360 burns rings on his games and they are eventually unplayable. I never heard of that untill he said so.

Brilliant because of the games that will be made for it via flash. I personally would rather sit there in my own lounge rather than stuck at this PC playing on my bigger screen in a comfy seat in the open than stuck in my bedroom. Plus, my pc is slow as, so starting it up just to play flash games = biggest pain ever.

The wii will also be easier to navigate around the internet than a a ps3/360 with its control. It therefore makes it viable to actually browse the internet for content to watch on your tv, whereas it wouldn't have been worth the hassle with the others.

I agree too.

Although I would still probably play on a PC, and just buy a big display.
