Hey. I want to* be saved and go to heaven but I dont believe the bible is true. I cant help it, all the evidence is against that its true. Jesus said you have to believe in your heart or you will not get into heaven. Now I can pretend I believe but really in my heart I dont. I want to be saved and go to heaven But I have no choice because I cant force my self to belief something if its not convincing enough. So can some one please convince me that its the the only true word of god? If not im doomed to go to hell and burn with all the other billions of people and animals too I guess.

In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well prety much every thing. I dont believe the universe was created 6000-8000 years ago. I dont believe the whole universe was made only for humans . I dont believe in original sin or that we started out in a garden and ate a magic fruit and became sinners. I dont believe the earth is flat lol. I dont believe a omnipotent all loving all knowing god is possible in this reality. I dont believe there is such thing as perfect or absolute morality. I dont believe any one deserves infinite punishment for finite sins. I dont believe that a creator would write a errant confusing and contradictory book as his only way of having a relationship with us. I dont believe in stoning nonbelievers, homosexuals, children who curse at their parents, women who arent virgins before they are married etc. I dont believe the universe came from a omnimax being who just was. need I say more? I dont believe any of it.

Firstly I don't think anyone can convince you except yourself. Others may be able to shed light on some of your doubts, but the final conviction must come from you and you alone.
The main issue of the Bible is Jesus. Don't waste time on the whole creation/evolution thing. That won't get you saved.

You don't have to. I don't believe that either and yet I'm a Christian. There are many theories about how/when the universe was created. Some Christians, like me, accept the Big Bang, evolution and that the earth is billions of years old. We just believe that God had a hand in it too.
I don't believe people started out in a garden and ate a magic fruit either. I think the issue here is that you're finding you can't take everything the bible says literally and dismissing all of it as a result. Sure...some Christians do read it literally but many don't. I see the original sin story as a allegory...it just explains that we are sinners.
Neither do I and nor does any other Christian I've met! You don't have to chuck scientific discoveries out the window in order to believe in Christ.
Again...neither do I. I don't believe there is a hell.
But God didn't write the book...human beings did.
I'm glad to hear it....but Christians don't believe in ths either.

I view it as being saved from death. The curse given after the original sin says that the penalty of sin is death, other verses say the wages of sin is death. Jesus gives us the opposite of that by giving us life.
I do kinda believe in hell in one way though...a personal hell that exists in this life from not following the teachings of Jesus.

Good reply keturah you seem like an intelligent person. But what you said contradicts what the bible says. That the bible is the perfect never changing word of god, and that gods morality is perfect and never changing. So If it says stone nonbelievers etcetera in the old testament apparently you still gotta do it if you want to follow gods rules. Yikes! Im glad christians dont take it literally any more or else you would have people killing over religion, like some people in the world are still doing. Ive seen some really disturbing beheading videos that were done in the name of allah. I also seen a woman get stoned, it was horrible. She made one mistake and her whole life was ended early.
Really if their is a heaven Ill see ya there maybe. Im a moral ethical kind hearted person and if god isnt evil he wouldnt send me or anybody else to get tortured for making normal mistakes.
I dont believe in revenge. Punishment is to make people realize there mistakes and why they were wrong. Not to get revenge, for something they did to you, that accomplishes nothing.

When I first became a Christian, the thing that was a huge stumbling block for me was 'how did Noah get all the animals in the arc???'
I laugh about it now, because it seems quite irrelevant to me now! (I still don't know how he did it ... but I don't feel I need to know any more in order to be a Christian!)
The most important issue for you is Jesus. I suggest you try and find out what you believe about him - was he a mythical figure, a prophet, or is he the Son of God?
Unless you ponder these things, you will not be able to move forward.

That's not how it works. No one can convince anyone that the Bible is true if they don't believe. There is much in the Bible that seems to run contrary to rational thought. This is to a large extent because we've been taught and we believe that there is no God. In the developed world the thinking is that we already know most things,and the few we don't know we'll soon find out.So, we worship ourselves in truth,not God. Once one becomes a believer though,their eyes are opened. We begin to see that God has brought us to the place were at. We also see where he's taking us.We realise that God actually is in control,and everything we have invented was in fact the will of God. We also realise that all the knowledge we have was given by God.I'd compare this revelation to Neo,taking the red pill in The Matrix. After becoming a believer,I saw that I'd lived my whole life in an illusion.Of course it was not provided to keep me a battery for the machine. It was provided to keep me from believing in God.However just like Neo, I just knew that there was some great truth out there,and I was determined to find it.For me, it was fairly easy to abandon the illusion that this world is. I'd seen and done much and I knew that it all just didn't amount to anything substantial.But you are different. You are young. The whole world seems to streach out in front of you,with endless possibilities.You have yet to find out, that all those roads lead to the same place. Nowhere.You have one thing going for you though. You are a seeker. You are seriously considering the existance of God.You are aware of the need for salvaion. You are right. You do need it. Now more than ever,because the world is sliding into chaos. Chaos,that was prophesied thousands of years ago. Chaos that is the will of God. So, come out of the Matrix. Join the living, that know the truth. Once you believe, the Bible will come to life for you. The gospel is harmless,but it will change you. You will become a new man with a new mission. You will want to bring others into the light. Only beware of false gospels.Those that judge,beware of them.Read the New testament through from Matt; to Revelation.Remember,just as you have been forgiven,you must forgive.Just as you have escaped judgement,you must not judge.Love God and love your neighbor as yourself.Get Baptised after you have read and understood the gospel. I cant, ive tryed, I prayed every night before bed for years. I have about as much belief in mohamhud as jesus, none. Jesus did more to help the world than most average men. He didnt kill any one or do any thing too bad that I remember. The whole drink my blood and eat my flesh analogy is kinda in bad taste No pun intended rofl. Still I dont believe in the whole every one who isnt a christian goes to hell part. It doesnt make sense to me, so provide some evidence to convince me so I can believe and go to heaven!
Edit: you still dont get it. I can say I believe and go to chruch and read the bible 10 hours a day and I still wouldnt believe in my heart. I would be pretending, acting. The only way I can truly believe is to find enough evidence or anything else that could give me a true belief in jesus or god.

When I replied to your first post, I had not read the whole thread - so I thought your problem lay mostly with not believing everything the Bible says.
Now I understand that your 'un-belief' is much greater than that!
To be honest, I don't think anybody will be able to give you any 'evidence' that will convince you.
Following Christ is - to a large extend at least - about faith.
If we could really prove Gods' existance and Jesus' divinity, then wouldn't everybody be a Christian??
I know many people who disbelieve God's existance as much as you do - but none of those people claim to 'want to be saved' at the same time.
Of course there is no point in you 'pretending' to believe - you may fool your fellow humans, but you cannot fool God!
Perhaps you should just step back, chill out and not worry about 'getting saved'?
God gets ahold of people in the strangest places and situations, and sometimes where they least expect him!

One thing I've learned is the Bible is not clear cut and dry. And I still don't understand some things from the bible that seem to contradict, but I have faith Goodness will prevail and there is reason and purpose for Life.
And Jesus's sacrifice on the cross to take away sins is the only thing in this world that has cleansed my conscience from all the evil I used to cling to and be haunted by.
And unfortunately churches have not always taught bible truths very well. I believe the bible is hard to understand, including the fact that it has been translated from other languages and times which can affect how things are told, but God gives the Holy Spirit to teach us what we need to know, not all at once, but as we need to know. I believe personal prayers and personal bible meditation is very beneficial, New Testament especially, and praying and studying and waiting for God to help you with the answers, it may be more beneficial to do it personally and alone, so no other outside comments may affect your meditations. Studying the cultures and time periods of the bible also helps get a more in-depth view of why God may have done certain things.

You all made my point for me. That there is no reason to believe, that the bible doesnt make sense and is not even worth studying, that their is nothing to be saved from. Thats all I need to know, peace.

The Bible does make sense. There is nothing in it that contradicts science. As a matter of fact, the more that science discovers, the better my understanding of the Bible.
The rules were different in the Old Testament than the New Testament. That is because it was a different dispensation. God was proving a different point about humanity than He is in the current dispensation.
It sounds to me like part of you would like to believe--the part that is afraid of hell. However, you are not willing to submit to God's will. Until you are willing to do that, there is not a lot that anyone can do for you. If you are truly interested in learning about God and the Bible, I can recommend a couple of books for you. One if them is called "The Case for a Creator". It was written by a guy who started out as an athiest, who after years of studying became absolutely convinced there was a God.
He wrote a sequel to the book called "The Case for Jesus Christ" or something like that. After he came to understand that there was a God, he studied lots of religions and settled on Christianity. They are both compelling books, if you are truly interested.
I pray that you will give the God-thing another chance. There are so many blessings that you are missing out on.

Thank you for being concerned about me. Your wrong about that, it does contradict science. One example is the bible trys to say the world is 6000-9000 years old and we know that the earth and the universe is billions of years old. Look it up theres a ton of them. The whole bible disturbs me not just hell. I have submitted to jesus I got baptised twice and I was raised christian my whole life till I became a atheist at 16 or so. I had nothing to influence me to become a atheist except the errancy and illogic of the bible itself and every other religion. Im actually not afriad of hell at all or death period. I believe if their really was a god he would have to be beyond humans stupidity and cruelty.

No-one knows this, evolutionists base their faith on this idea and rely on unprovable assumptions. There are many elements of the cosmos that do not fit the theory. One example that springs to mind is the number of supernova remnants in our galaxy, there should be thousands if it's billions of years old but there are only a couple of hundred, indicating a young age, see here.

Most people that assume they were once a christian were never. Jesus says you must be "born again". You can believe, as the disciples did while they were with Jesus before you are born again, but like them you won't really understand or be able to fulfil what The Lord says .. . until you get what they got at Pentecost (Acts 2v4, 33, 39).

No one can convince you of the truth of the Bible really, that's between you and God. I took me forever to accept the full truth of the Bible - really you've got to turn to God, pray, keep an open heart to an answer and believe that he will answer. God is able to speak for himself. Maybe that will seem simplistic and silly to some people but I have found that it works in my life when I'm confussed, so pray that God reveals himself to you - either way you've got you answer.
