Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The law is not for the righteous but for the ungodly.

Who the Son sets free is free indeed.

1 Tim. 1:8-9
But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, [9] realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers

So all the jews are murderers and thieves and adulterers, John?
We follow the law of liberty.

1 Cor. 7:39
A wife is bound as long as her husband lives; but if her husband is dead, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.

So Christians are basically lawless?
We live under the law of liberty. It is also called the royal law. For some reason people can not seem to understand this.

James 2:8-10
If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well; [9] but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. [10] For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.

So why is it that Christians are so hung up on pounding on the laws of the Old Testament, as anyone who is a Christian need only follow that one rule and not worry about any others?
To find justification to legitimatly descriminate against people and behaviors they don't like or conform to their particular world view?

Indeed. When you follow (or at least claim to follow) a list of 6,275 arbitrary rules, it's easy to look down on those who only follow 6,178.

And when has any believer in God ever put the "Blame" on Him when things go wrong?

When was the last time you ever said "It's God's fault"?
When was the last time something was His fault?

Maybe you're blind, but as the hymn goes:

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound.
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found.
Was blind, but now I see.

So if you see an 85 MPH sign posted 100 yards from a railroad crossing with a train coming, barricades down and red lights flashing, do you follow the authority and attempt to hold 85 MPH and still stop before hitting the train or do you default to your own authority, recognize that the speed set for the zone is inappropriate, and pick a speed based on your logical and reasonable assessment?

No --- I let the context decide.

Is this your euphemistic way of saying something that would normally be vulgar and rude?

No --- I didn't talk like that before I was saved --- and I'm not talking like that after I'm saved, either.

Yes, this is exactly what I was getting at. Obsession with authority inevitably leads to an authoritarian worldview. Authoritarians see themselves as righteous (as demonstrated by John in #401), and anyone different than them is corrupt (as evidenced by AV's sig line). If one can convince himself that his view is on the authority of a perfect being, then he can conveniently dismiss any obligation to examine that view.

This isn't to say that all believers share the same outlook, nor that some non-believers aren't similarly obsessed.

This is well and good, but what some believers fail to accept is that many of us are not lost, have never been lost, have no need of being saved from anything, and don't see ourselves as wretches.

You can glean this from my sig line. As the song goes:

I don't need to fight
To prove I'm right
I don't need to be forgiven
