We are like members of a neighborhood, but we each remain in our respective houses and aloof from each other. We see each other as strangers instead of neighbors. I think if we spend some time getting to know each other a bit, we might find that, while we still passionately hold onto our beliefs, we can do so in an agreeable manner. I asked BWAP to start this thread so that we can become friends, the way you are in your neighborhood at home.

Thanks, BWAP!

So ............. Welcome. Step into my parlour and join me for tea. Or would you prefer a nice, cold frappuccino? Maybe an ice cold bottle of Nehi? Sit and tell me what's been happening to you lately. How are the kids? How are you? Got something you want to brag about? Anything troubling you?

Let's share. :)

Thanks for visiting, Nehi! Let me tell you a bit about my daughter.

She is 15 (ALMOST 16 ;) ). She does goth. It really bothered me a bit when it started (you know that whole judgmental scene that goes with things like this :( ), she was real moody, and I felt we were drawing apart. That was about a year and a half ago. But since then, things have mellowed a bit, and I can look deeper into who she is. She is in 10th grade and is taking AP classes in school, and doing very well with them. She takes karate and will be moving up to black belt later this year, and she plays the cello (this is the thing about her that lets me know that everything is going to be OK.) She plays well, and has been encouraged to pursue it professionally. She is in three orchestras in school, and one of the orchestras just recently won a regional competition.

I think things are going to be OK with her, but I was worried for a while.

Thanks for letting me share. :)

Sixteen was a tough time for our daughter too. She is now 23, out of college and doing well in her first sales job. She really has matured on all fronts. The difference between 16 and 23 has been significant.

Keep on being a great mom (mean and tender).

Are you peeking? How did you know I am mean? Did she tell you? (I am going to have to limit her internet access. :D )

This is my daughter at our church camp last year. She was the cool girl on campus (and hated every minute of it. LOL)

Hi Jenda sweetie

Oh and you to drstevej..don't want you to feel left out. You know when my daughter was that age she was so easy. I was so thrilled that she bypassed that stage with all the other girls her age. Then, she hit 19, started attending the UofU and her best friend second semester got her hooked on Crystal Meth. Last October, while visiting in her father's home...Long story...she was arrested for being in possession of a meth pipe. He called me down one day, I helped him search her room...I had been telling him for months and her that I KNEW she was using something but I thought it was cocaine. Anyway, he phoned the police and after searching her room there they uncuffed her and turned her over to me and sited her. She has been in out patient rehab...and I am happy to say recovering well, which isn't common for meth addicts.

I believe in the power of prayer and being a loving and kind but very tough parent. Tough I mean in that I don't waver. As my Aunt Chickie always has to say, "even if you are wrong at least be consistant at it." Today my daughter ran in long enough from work...OH she works at Starbucks...so if you all want frapaccinos let me buy..i get a discount ;) ..anyway she grabbed a sandwhich ran out the door shouting LOVE YOU MOM, on her way to dance recital practice. 8 months ago while I helped her detox here at my home, she told me, "your not my mother." I am so grateful to the Lord that my baby is back again and happy and healthy. Here is a picture of the two of us at my wedding this last december:

Great picture, Casi. Praise God for the deliverance.

With all humility :amen:

I have learned about the true love and grace of God through learning to forgive my daughter the things that have been said and done. It has made me grow I think sometimes more than her. I have often heard that other's trials are really meant to teach us a lesson too.

Casi (so very grateful for the grace of God)

Maybe I am reading this wrong, but it looks like it says "25 year old husband". Boy, I thought I was bad. :D

I'll take a 25 year old husband, please....:p

(Sorry, I'm not saying much, I've been too lazy to do much but jabber lately.)

Well if he doesn't shape up ..you can have mine ! NO ..just kidding ...I think..yeah ...just kidding...but ..um wait...no...well..let me just say...man I am not good at this marriage thingy so much anymore. We just got married in December and I am not sure I am cut out for it..but I am trying...well I mean I am making an effort...not that I am a trying person or anything.

Casi (realizing she is like a raving lunatic tonight) ;)
