  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Abused texts of Scripture: What is your example?

Judge not, lest ye be judged (Matthew 7:1)

In vain do they worship me teaching as doctrines, the commandments of men.’ (Mark 7:7)

Where there is no vision, the people perish. – Proverbs 29:18

So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2:17

I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.” 2 Sam. 7:23

Potentially cutting off my father

My father (61) has had issues his whole life with substance abuse. He's been addicted to substances for years since I believe college. He's been offered multiple opportunities from support from his father and from my mother. It always ends up in this cycle of him getting clean for a few months, maybe a year, and then some episode starts up again. He's also extremely irresponsible with money despite being a pharmacist and earning above the national average. My mother has dealt with him for about 10 years, trying to offer him support with therapy and counseling and working with him to the best she can, but he ended up cheating on her and falling back into his habits and they divorced. At this point in his life, I'm the only person he hasn't pushed away completely. He's now facing a situation where I've given him over $2000 and he's asking for more money after losing his job and getting evicted.

I (24) just graduated college and am still looking for my first "real" job. I only work part time and don't earn much money, but I have a stable housing situation (my mom still lets me live with her). I'm trying to live a good Christian life, and my father claims to be a Catholic, but I'm at the point where I'm seriously considering cutting him off completely from my life. He's going through what I'm pretty sure are bouts of drug-induced psychosis, and he's blaming me for him losing his job and his financial situation. I'm angry towards him, but I understand that unrighteous anger is a sin, and even in righteous anger we can't sin. Would cutting him off from my life at this point be sinful? I just joined a new church and I'm kind of embarrassed bringing this up with the congregants there.

Christian infantry officer stripped of position, accused of expressing 'hatred' for LGBT people

An infantry officer who expressed Christian views on human sexuality and other LGBT-related issues faced pressure to resign from the Idaho National Guard and was stripped of his commanding position following a complaint from a subordinate who identifies as homosexual.

Liberty Counsel, a public interest law firm, announced last Wednesday that it had notified Gov. Brad Little earlier this month about the alleged First Amendment violation. While the infantry officer is represented by R. Davis Younts, LLC, Liberty Counsel has added its voice to the man’s case, requesting a response by Friday to avoid further legal action.

According to Liberty Counsel, a subordinate senior enlisted man who identifies as homosexual filed an Equal Opportunity complaint last year against the infantry officer. The officer reportedly expressed Christian viewpoints on human sexuality and expressed opposition to “pernicious practices,” which include prescribing puberty blockers and opposite-sex hormones to children suffering from confusion about their sex.

Per. JD Vance: Trump will veto a federal law prohibiting abortions

Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance says Donald Trump would not support a national abortion ban if elected president and would veto such legislation if it landed on his desk. "I can absolutely commit that,” Vance said when asked on NBC's “Meet the Press” whether he could commit to Trump not imposing such a ban. “Donald Trump’s view is that we want the individual states and their individual cultures and their unique political sensibilities to make these decisions because we don’t want to have a nonstop federal conflict over this issue.”

Trump would veto legislation establishing a federal abortion ban, Vance says

If this is true, it's a somewhat reasonable position. But more likely, The Donald knows he's not well liked by women. In 2020, women voted over 55% for Joe Biden. This was a big part of his 81 million popular vote total--the largest number of popular votes received by any Presidential candidate in history. And Trump's team also knows that women generally turn out to vote more than men.

My struggle with bibles

When I read a Catholic Bible, I am assured that it contains the full canon of Holy Scripture as defined by ancient Church councils and definitively listed by the Councils of Florence and Trent, reaffirmed by the Second Vatican Council. If the Bible includes cross-references, then it will link passages between the Old Testament and the New Testament, including the Deuterocanonical books. If there are annotations provided by the Catholic Church or one of its faithful shepherds (a bishop), then I can trust in their reliability. However, these assurances are not present when I use a Jewish Tanakh or a Protestant Bible. For these reasons, I prefer a Catholic Bible over a Protestant or Jewish one.

Silence In Heaven For Half An Hour

It seems like the end time prophecy is a pretty popular topic. I know there are various opinions about how it’s going to occur, but that‘s besides the point.

I have wondered about that when the seventh seal is opened and there’s silence in Heaven for half an hour, what could that possibly mean? What would be the reason for that? Is there any possible theory what that might be?

A Question- The Joy of The Lord

Hi everyone, a question- do you experience the supernatural joy of the Lord? If so how often do you experience it? I do not have it, I have never had it, I felt it for about 5 minutes after I got saved and then it left and has never come back. I talked to my pastor and he said that he experiences it on a daily basis. Also do you experience supernatural peace? I do not have that either. Thanks!

Prayer to finding God purpose for my life

I need prayer to know what God wants me to do because I think why work myself for goals im not sure supported by others but seems could be good to help others such as being a math tutor or learning a language or learning any other skill such as instrument to gain talents to teach others skills that can help the poor and help others serve God when I can serve the Lord by just preaching the gospel that stops me from persisting. The bible says in all labor there is profit but idle chatter leads only to poverty.

But is not bible study and preaching and prayer labor though I have not tried much with prayer as takes effort not sure if will give much benefit that I worry christ wants me to work to do other stuff ? And I have thought of memorising alot of the bible but it will take alot of time and may struggle to that I have thought would neglect other useful work of doing something else but I think I should to make much sure I am growing to be more fruitful. And I also plan to work in a business so am I right to not seek to gain other skills because I should have enough profit but it assumes it will start am I right to not work to gain other skills to help more because I assume it will start?

Trump and Kennedy want us to have healthy food and children.

This needs to be shared by everyone everywhere we can so as many people see it as possible since the MSM seems to be largely ignoring this.

Regardless of your political affiliation we should be able to stand behind this. They want Americans to have food that isn't full of chemicals and overly processed, they want healthy food for our children so they can be healthy as well. This made me feel very good and gave me a hope.

No one should be able to argue us having healthy food free of chemicals and having healthy children is incredibly important. And I am not seeing the democrats talking about these things really ever at all.

So please share it. Democrats on the fence would be swayed by this and everyone should be able to support this and support people who actually want Americans to have things like food that's actually not bad for you.

Kennedy puts fresh spin on Harris-Trump showdown in battleground states

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., suspending his presidential campaign and throwing his support behind the Republican nominee, struck at the heart of Vice President Kamala Harris’ claim that she would protect democracy and freedom.

He also sent Democrats scurrying to dismiss the potential impact of his exit on battleground contests, where a shift of just 1 or 2 percentage points could decide who moves into the White House next year.

In announcing his decision Friday, Mr. Kennedy said the Democratic Party is “the party of war, censorship, corruption, Big Pharma, Big Tech, Big Ag and Big Money.”

He said Democrats’ efforts to keep him off the ballot and hamstring his campaign with lawsuits was “undemocratic” — as was the move by party insiders to make Ms. Harris the presidential nominee without a single primary vote.

Australians Now Have the Legal Right to NOT Answer Job Related Communications, Outside of Work Time

For the younger "electronic screen" generations, this may seem like a
strange thing -- the right to NOT be always available to the messages
from employers.

Older generations often value the freedom of being "offline", and
setting their own schedule and activities, outside of work time.

Praise and request

I have a prayer REQUEST and a PRAISE

So my praise is that that my mom has been able to sweat and my legs have been feeling 50% better! Oh and I was very constipated for awhile no and I am not any longer... It all started to get better after we received a prayer cloth and it has been a blessing from God for both of us

Now the request: we have told God that we will do a thirty day fast during this time( morning fast) and I would appreciate prayers that my moms faith which is wavering will increase and that I would continue to have the faith I need to see this through. I can barely function and my mom can't do alot of things like driving and other things much because of her issues.

Please pray for us. or faith is being tested so Greatly because all we go through.... I thank each and every one of you

Why are You Cast Down?

“As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?
My tears have been my food
day and night,
while they say to me all the day long,
‘Where is your God?’
These things I remember,
as I pour out my soul:
how I would go with the throng
and lead them in procession to the house of God
with glad shouts and songs of praise,
a multitude keeping festival.
“Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.
“My soul is cast down within me;
therefore I remember you
from the land of Jordan and of Hermon,
from Mount Mizar.
Deep calls to deep
at the roar of your waterfalls;
all your breakers and your waves
have gone over me.
By day the Lord commands his steadfast love,
and at night his song is with me,
a prayer to the God of my life.
I say to God, my rock:
‘Why have you forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning
because of the oppression of the enemy?’
As with a deadly wound in my bones,
my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me all the day long,
‘Where is your God?’
“Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.” (Psalms 42:1-11 ESV)

Are you able to identify with this Psalmist in any way, either from a time in your past or in your present life? I definitely can from times past, and I can connect with parts of it in my life present. For if we are those who are followers of Jesus Christ, whose desire is for him, to do his will, we are going to go through times of difficulty, persecution, and rejection. And we will have people who will speak evil of us and who will mock us and who will deride us. And if we have compassionate hearts, that should bring us to tears.

And if our hearts are not guarded, our tears may turn to depression and to withdrawal and to us pulling away from doing the will of the Lord. And perhaps they may even lead us to questioning God and his sovereignty over our lives. And we may cry out to God and say, “Why, God, is this happening to me?” And that says that we have not yet reached that place of spiritual maturity in our lives to where we understand and accept the sovereignty of God over our lives, and when we can accept suffering as something good.

And that may lead many sincere followers of Christ to pull back and to no longer do what they were doing in ministry in obedience to the Lord, out of fear of rejection and persecution, or out of being convinced that all the doors that were open for them are now closed. So they get discouraged and downcast and they give up hope, at least temporarily, until they are able to work through their emotions in prayer to the Lord, and in counseling themselves, so that they will return to serving the Lord as they once had.

And if we ever get to that point in our Christian lives, and in Christian ministry, to where we are discouraged and disheartened, and our emotions are telling us to give up and to run away, we need to give ourselves biblical counsel. And we need to work through those emotions in prayer. And we must get into the Scriptures and study them in their context and let the Holy Spirit speak truth to our hearts, whether or not our emotions are yet there. For Satan is definitely hot on our trail to convince us to give up and run.

And we must remind ourselves of days gone by when we were following the Lord as we ought, and how the Lord carried us through every difficult circumstance, and how he supplied for our every need. And we should drag out the old hymns of the faith and sing them out loud. And if we journal, we should go back and read where the Lord has encouraged us before in our trials and tribulations. And we must reassure ourselves of our Lord’s provisions for us and how he will not leave us or forsake us.

For Satan will glory in these times in our lives when he can get us to be so downcast that we will desert God’s callings upon our lives, and when we will run from serving the Lord rather than to serving God with our lives. So, if your emotions are beginning to go that direction, stop! Pray! Read the Scriptures! Sing songs, hymns and spiritual songs out loud! Claim the promises of God that he has for his followers. Believe Him! Trust Him! And keep moving forward in the strength and wisdom and power of God!!

A Believer’s Prayer

An Original Work / July 31, 2012

With my whole heart, Lord, I pray
To be Yours, and Yours always.
Lead me in Your truth today.
May I love You, and obey.
Lead me in Your righteousness.
When I sin, may I confess;
Bow before You when I pray;
Live for You and You always.

Love You, Jesus, You’re my friend.
Life with You will never end.
You are with me through each day,
Giving love and peace always.
You will ne’er abandon me.
From my sin You set me free.
You died on that cruel tree,
So I’d live eternally.

Soon You’re coming back for me;
From this world to set me free;
Live with You eternally.
Oh, what joy that brings to me.
I will walk with You in white;
A pure bride, I’ve been made right
By the blood of Jesus Christ;
Pardoned by His sacrifice.

Lebanon - The Last to Return

Something just dawned on me. Lebanon is the last place the diaspora will return from. Zechariah 9-10 talk about the return of exiles to the promised land from places like Egypt and Assyria. Then Zechariah 11 talks about Lebanon and oppressive shepherds. Zechariah wrote to the Jews in exile to encourage them to leave the lands of exile and resettle their own land. Zechariah 11 comes right before Zechariah 12’s passage about Jerusalem becoming a stumbling block to all nations.

Lebanon has a three part government that is, by Consitution, led by a Maronite Christian, a Sunni Muslim, and a Shia Muslim. And then there is Hezbollah, who has recently threatened the Christians and Jews in the country. It seems to me that Lebanon will soon undergo a coup where its three leaders (shepherds of the Jews) are removed in one month and replaced by a worthless shepherd who seeks to destroy the Jews.

Thoughts? Are seeing this fulfilled before our very eyes?

Correcting Misconceptions About the Crusades

Luciano Anastasia's review of my first article on the Crusades

"The Crusades, often misunderstood in modern times, were primarily defensive wars initiated in response to centuries of Muslim conquests and the persecution of Christians. These conflicts arose from the need to protect Christian lands, pilgrims, and Eastern Christians from ongoing Muslim aggression. The article emphasizes that the Crusaders were driven by religious devotion and a sense of self-preservation rather than mere conquest. It challenges modern perceptions, advocating for a more nuanced understanding of the motivations behind the Crusades."

The second article in my series of seven on the Crusades has been published, both covering the topic of what motivated the Crusaders to go to the East.

We’re taking the long view’ - Why the American Solidarity Party runs for office...

As Republicans and Democrats compete in a fractious American election cycle, a small third-party is trying to woo Catholic voters, with a political vision it says is drawn from the principles of Catholic social teaching.

Peter Sonski, 61, is a Connecticut grandfather, a former local public school board member, and the presidential nominee for the American Solidarity Party, which says it promotes human life, social justice, environmental conservation, and international peace.

With a growing number of Catholics feeling disenfranchised from major political parties, the American Solidarity Party has in recent elections attracted interest among some Catholic voters. Sonski talked with The Pillar about his vision, his campaign, and his party’s future.

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

You are the presidential nominee for a third party which has gained some popularity among Catholics in recent years, the American Solidarity Party.

What is the American Solidarity Party? What does it stand for?

The American Solidarity Party is the U.S. or American manifestation of a political movement known as Christian Democracy.

Who Is 'Destroying Democracy in Darkness?'

The 2023-2024 campaign season is not just the strangest on record, it's also arguably the most anti-democratic. Ostensibly, the Democratic Party has claimed over the last decade that former President Donald Trump posed a continued and existential threat to the republic. That allegation subsequently justified a variety of anti-democratic means to neuter his first two presidential candidacies, his presidency, and now his third and final run for the White House.

Olympics Closing Ceremony: 2 Weeks Later

Hello folks. We know how well my opening ceremony thread went (it crashed and burned). I actually enjoyed the Olympics, and was cheering for Simone Biles as well as whole host of other athletes (though, I thankfully never watched the Opening or Closing ceremonies). Now, there are three days until the Paralympic games, so I am excited. However, the regular Olympics closing ceremony was disturbing to me. I will not judge you if you guys were okay with it. For myself, it seemed a little dark, and borderline, if not full-blown idolatry of false gods.

First off, some science. Back in the summer of 1977, NASA launched the two Voyager spacecraft, which were used to explore the outer solar system. Onboard each spacecraft was installed a golden record, a time capsule storing hundreds of images and hours of songs on an LP record made out of gold-plated metal (those circular things that look like giant CDs, for those who never grew up with records). These records are a time capsule in case aliens come across the probes in thousands of years, so that ET could learn about the basics of human culture. Also wait, 1977 is already almost 50 years ago? I remember when those probes were only 33-35 years old back in 2010-2012. Man, I am getting older bro.

During the closing ceremony, a figure named the Golden Voyager dressed in fake gold descended from the stadium's ceiling, representing the Voyager probes. "Thomas designed the artistic character to represent the Voyager Golden Record, or the record of humanity sent to space by France in 1977, per the Associated Press, and it kept audiences very entertained during a section of the ceremony that paid homage to the history of France and the Olympics itself." - NBC / E!

Some Christians likened the closing ceremony to be demonic, with a headless fallen angel (or Greek god) named Nike taking center stage. For myself, I think it was a little disturbing and borderline dark (though not as bad as the opening ceremony), and should not be televised to children, cos this stuff is nightmare fuel. According to one X user, she said "The Olympics Closing Ceremony features a headless, and armless Angel with what appears to be an effigy of Lucifer (The Golden Voyager) standing in gold." - Times Now

I have a question and problem

I want to learn to better Obey God. Only for me learning from the bible is massively difficult. Some parts of the bible I find interesting other times it's boring (I'm not knocking the bible or trying to be rude or hurt Gods feelings.). It doesn't help I'm not book smart. I learn more from others then from books or just figuring things out for myself. Sadly the bible is not something I can figure out on my own. Some things I understand quickly but there lots of things I can't break down. So let me give you an example.

So take Genesis's. I can read the book of Genesis's and understand the surface layers of things. However when I try and learn what other hidden things are being taught I got nothing. My brain just doesn't work that way. It's why I did terrible in school. If some one explains something to me I can understand it. Trying to unravel the bible hidden stuff is way beyond my abilities. It actually makes me feel stupid. Some times I might pick up on something but most of the time I don't.

People given me advice on how to study the bible and that advice would probably work for most people but not me. For most people studying the bible is like going up a steep hill or a mountain hard but do able. For me its like defying gravity and learning how to fly. I don't know what to do. Right now I just try and learn from others and expand my knowledge that way. I don't know what to do?
