  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At El Salvador mega-jail, Trump official tells migrants 'do not come'

She said earlier that she would discuss how the United States "can increase the number of deportation flights and removals of violent criminals from the US."
In a statement from the US embassy in San Salvador, the United States said that Noem had signed an information sharing agreement with Salvadoran Minister of Justice and Security Gustavo Villatoro.
"This agreement strengthens the commitment of both countries in the fight against transnational crime," the embassy said.

This is how to send a real message.

Evidence that Healing is Included in the Atonement

It is often argued that there is no evidence of healing in the atonement before the modern Pentecostal movement.
I will add these and look for others.

THANKSGIVING FOLLOWING HOLY COMMUNION
Lord Jesus Christ, my God, let Your sacred Body be unto me for eternal life and Your precious Blood for forgiveness of sins. Let this Eucharist be unto me for joy, health and gladness.
----John Chrysostom

Remember me, O Lord, in thy Kingdom. Not unto judgement nor unto condemnation be my partaking of thy Holy Mysteries, O Lord, but unto the healing of soul and body.
----John Chrysostom

Having partaken of the precious Body and Blood of Christ, let us give thanks to him who has made us
worthy to partake of these sacred mysteries, and let us plead that it not redound to our fault, but to our salvation, to
health of soul and body
, to preservation of piety, to remission of sins, and life everlasting.
----Ancient Eastern liturgies

He that eateth my Body and drinketh my Blood shall dwell in me and I in him. Therefore, O Lord, have compassion on me and make not an example of me, thy sinful servant. But do unto me according thy great mercy, and grant that these Holy Gifts may be for me unto the healing, purification, enlightenment, protection, salvation and sanctification of my soul and body, and to the expulsion of every evil imagination, sinful deed or work of the Devil. Worthy of the Gospel of Christ

“Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; in no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God. For to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, experiencing the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.” (Philippians 1:27-30 NASB’95)

We who profess faith in Jesus Christ are to be those of God who conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. So, what should that look like? Well, first of all, what is “the gospel of Christ”? And I ask that question because there are so many different ideas floating around and being propagated as to what constitutes “the gospel” message. So, I will first go to the teachings of Jesus Christ on that subject, and I will summarize what was said, and you can look it up for yourselves and read it, too.

Jesus said that if anyone would come after him he must deny self, take up his cross daily (die daily to sin) and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, and put sin to death daily, by the Spirit, and if we walk (in conduct, in practice) according to his New Covenant commands, we have eternal life with God. But if we profess him as “Lord” with our lips but we do not obey him, we will not inherit eternal life (Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

But if our faith in Jesus Christ is genuine, and biblical, it will result in us being crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer as slaves to sin but as slaves to God and to his righteousness. So sin should no longer have mastery over our lives to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it leads to death, not life. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it leads to righteousness and sanctification and its end is eternal life with Christ Jesus (Romans 6:1-23).

And if we profess that we are in fellowship (union, participation) with God/Christ, but while sin is our practice, we are liars. And if we confess that we know God intimately, personally, but while we do not obey his commands, we are liars. For the one who makes sin his practice is of the devil, but the one for whom righteousness (of God) is his practice, he is righteous in the sight of God, and he has eternal life with God. But anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God and will die in his sins.

1 John 1:5-10; 1 John 2:3-6,15-17,24-25; 1 John 3:4-10; Galatians 5:16-21

So, we are to conduct ourselves in a manner worthy (suitable, appropriate, proper, fitting) to the gospel. Thus, first of all, by God-persuaded and God-gifted faith in Jesus, which is not of our own doing, we will die with Christ to sin (not just once, but daily) and we will now walk with him (in conduct, in practice) in obedience to his commands and to his calling and purpose for our lives. Our lives will be surrendered to the Lord to do his will, and so we will follow him wherever he leads us in doing what he calls us to do.

And this is not saying that we will be absolutely perfect in every way from that moment forward but that sin and disobedience to our God should no longer be our practice (habit, addiction). But our practice should now be to obey our Lord and to walk in his ways and in his truth and righteousness, and to now live for him and for his will and purpose for our lives, and no longer for ourselves for our own selfish and fleshly desires. Sin should no longer be our “go to,” but surrender to the will of God should be our life.

But if this is what we believe, and if this is what we practice, at least here in America, when so many people are being led to believe and to practice the opposite of that, we are going to be opposed, rejected, persecuted, cast aside as unwanted and as unnecessary, and just flat out ignored. And that will be because the majority have been convinced that the gospel message I noted above is the lie and that the truth is that all they have to do is profess faith in Jesus and now all their sins are forgiven and heaven is guaranteed.

But we cannot just pick and choose the Scriptures we want to believe or to not believe, especially we should not be teaching them out of the correct and biblical context in which they were originally written. For so many people today are doing just that, deliberately removing Scriptures from their proper context in order to twist them and to make them say what they do not say if taught in the appropriate context. And so they end up teaching false gospel messages and leading many people to hell on the promise of heaven.

So, if you profess faith in Jesus Christ, get your truth from the Scriptures themselves, but studied in their proper context. It is best to read entire books of the Bible, chapter by chapter, and verse by verse, before drawing your own conclusions as to what they really teach, if you have not studied them in context previously. For me, I know that opened my eyes to so many things I had been taught incorrectly, and to truth I did not know before existed. And let the Holy Spirit (not just humans) lead you to all truth.

[John 6:35-58; John 10:27-30; John 15:1-11; Acts 26:18; Rom 1:18-32; Rom 2:6-8; Rom 8:1-14; Rom 12:1-2; 1 Co 6:9-10,19-20; 1 Co 10:1-22; 2 Co 5:10,15,21; Gal 6:7-8; Eph 2:8-10; Eph 4:17-32; Eph 5:3-6; Col 1:21-23; Col 3:1-17; Titus 2:11-14; 1 Pet 2:24; Heb 3:1-19; Heb 4:1-13; Heb 10:23-31; Heb 12:1-29; Rev 21:8,27; Rev 22:14-15]

How Long Till the Morning

Scripture: I Thessalonians 4:17
By C. E. Couchman

Consider the mornings of this mortal land,
Each a new beginning from the Maker’s hand.
While the storms may gather ‘gainst the evening sky,
The day breaks cloudless in the morning.

Rise up to the battle, for the skies dawn clear.
Let us gather courage while the foe draws near.
Though the night falls weary, saints of God, march on!
And He’ll raise our banner in the morning.

When the trumpet sounds to signal Heaven’s day,
Resurrection Morning when the dead shall wake,
What a glorious gath’ring when the Lord descends
And we rise to meet him in the morning.

How long, my Lord? Till we see the morning?
How long, O, my Lord, till we see your face?
O my Lord, guide us through our troubles
Till we rise above them in the morning.

Dem lawmaker suggests females athletically equal to males while voting to keep trans athletes in girls sports

Pennsylvania Democrat state senator Lindsey Williams gave controversial testimony at the state capitol on Wednesday while opposing a bill that would ban trans athletes from girls sports.

Williams, in prepared remarks ahead of the committee vote on the Save Women's Sports Act, suggested that female athletes are physically comparable to male athletes, and don't face biological disadvantages.

"I want all girls to know that there are elected officials like me who believe female bodies are just as strong and fast and capable as male bodies," Williams said.

"I want all girls to know there are elected officials like me who would never underestimate your ability to beat a boy at their own sport, because that's what the premise of this bill assumes, that female bodies are less than male bodies, that girls are at an automatic disadvantage, and can't possibly compete against boys. Even though girls do it every day. "

State Health Departments' Funding Stripped

Trump Administration Abruptly Cuts Billions From State Health Services (Link NYTimes)
The Department of Health and Human Services has abruptly canceled more than $12 billion in federal grants to states that were being used for tracking infectious diseases, mental health services, addiction treatment and other urgent health issues....

...State health departments began receiving notices on Monday evening that the funds, which were allocated during the Covid-19 pandemic, were being terminated, effective immediately.

In Lubbock, Texas, public health officials have received orders to stop work supported by three grants that helped fund the response to the widening measles outbreak there, according to Katherine Wells, the city’s director of public health.

On Tuesday, some state health departments were preparing to lay off dozens of epidemiologists and data scientists. Others, including Texas, Maine and Rhode Island, were still scrambling to understand the impact of the cuts before taking any action.

Donald has famously claimed that if we just didn't test, there would be no pandemic. Logick is logick!

Hi, I'm Simon.

Was rescued by Jesus in 2009. Faith was strong until about 2014, when the loss of a loved one tested my faith. Recovered my strength and love for Jesus when he gave me his wisdom and discernment during early 2020. Rescued me again!!
I think we are in for a rocky ride in the upcoming 2 years, so hoping to discover some pearls amongst my fellow Brothers and Sisters. Amen.

Annoying IRL friend problems - what to do?

1. One of my friends will consistently vent to me about all the negative things other people have done to them this week, and then, after going through their rant, will turn to me and say “Please tell me something positive,” at which point my brain shuts down and I can’t think of anything really positive to tell them because I’m still thinking about all the negative stuff they just told me.

Is this person a narcissist? Should I make a habit of writing “positive things” down so that I have something to tell them and “override my brain” so to speak? Should I aim for spiritual edification (positive Scripture) or just rebuke them for placing me in an impossible situation?

2. This same friend is broke, and the two of us went to considerable lengths to retrieve an expensive set of trading cards from their parents’ house that they want me to sell. Unfortunately for them, I know nothing about how to sell trading cards, and they don’t either. Nor do I have the time or interest to learn the ins and outs of the trading card industry and valuations. This looks like a lose-lose situation because if I price it too high, it will not sell (and they are impatient and nagging), and if I price it too low, they will accuse me of ripping them off (and rightfully so). I downloaded a trading card value app, but it will take months for me to even appraise the cards. This person badly needs money and is refusing to learn how to sell the cards themselves. I am concerned that this is all a narcissistic trap. What would you advise me to do?

MAGA Goal: Debt Reduction or Tax Cuts?

What would make America great again, paying off the national debt or giving workers and corporations tax cuts? During the last campaign season, there was a lot of talk from Magadonians on the important debt crisis we are constantly facing with many saying it was the most important issue. We know that the last Trumpian tax cut added some one to two trillion dollars.

Tax Cuts Are Primarily Responsible for the Increasing Debt Ratio

A series of massive, permanent tax cuts have created large federal budget primary shortfalls and continue to exert upward pressure on the debt ratio. In other words, the current fiscal gap—the growing debt as a percentage of the economy—stems from legislation that cut taxes, disproportionately for the very rich. While it is true that the Great Recession and legislation to fight it, along with the costs of responding to the health and economic effects of COVID-19, pushed the level of debt higher, these costs were temporary and did not change the trajectory of the debt ratio. If Congress wants to decrease deficits, it should look first toward reversing tax cuts that largely benefited the wealthy, which were responsible for the United States’ current fiscal outlook.

Expiring provisions

To satisfy budget process requirements, lawmakers decided to sunset some provisions of the TCJA. Most cuts to individual income taxes, for example, expire at the end of 2025. Business expensing for new investment is also temporary. As conventionally scored, the act thus increased deficits from 2018 through 2026 and decreased them thereafter. If lawmakers decide to extend all the expiring provisions, however, that will add about $480 billion to deficits through 2027 and a growing amount thereafter.

...If TCJA’s expiring provisions are eventually made permanent, however, deficits will be persistently higher.

Baptismal waters

Good morning readers and other friends,

I posting here because I have a practical question : what's the current practice in your parish for the disposal of baptismal water after a baptism ?

I suppose it's not ok to just let it go in the sink but when your parish is in the city center with no natural ground nearby, what can you do ?

I Need a Job

I have Asperger's and it's hard for me to find long-term employment. I need to find something that I can do. I was a janitor for almost an entire year, but I developed depression and had to quit for my mental health. I'm not even trying to be picky, I just need a job so I can move forward in life. I need your prayers and support. Thank you in advance.

Trump invokes "state secrets" to blunt Judge James Boasberg's Deportation information requests

The Executive Branch hereby notifies the Court that no further information will be provided in response to the Court’s March 18, 2025 Minute Order based on the state secrets privilege and the concurrently filed declarations of the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security. --HERE
So let's review. The information requested by a judge regarding Trump et al deportation actions are declared to be "state secrets" and a security threat to our nation if made public.

Yet to this same administration, war plans complete with timing, targets, methods, and heck, even a CIA operative among those war plans, are not considered secret and perfectly fine if made public.

Never mind in the text themselves "high side" is literally mentioned which means "classified".
It's going to be a long four years of this insanity.

Houthi militants in Yemen are claiming responsibility for a new attack against U.S. warships in the Red Sea.

The terror group claimed in a statement published by the Jerusalem Post late Tuesday that they had attacked the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier and several U.S. warships in the Red Sea.

Early Wednesday local time, the Houthis said they had targeted a U.S. vessel and Israeli military locations using drones.

Is the Rapture credible?

The concept of the "rapture" is one that's often discussed in Christian theology, particularly among certain Protestant denominations. It refers to a belief that faithful Christians will be taken up to heaven before a period of tribulation on Earth. This idea is primarily derived from a few key passages in the New Testament, though interpretations vary widely.

One of the main scriptures cited to support the belief in a rapture is 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, which describes how "the dead in Christ will rise first" and how believers "will be caught up together... to meet the Lord in the air." The phrase "caught up" is often translated from the Greek word "harpazo," which means to seize or snatch away, and this is where the term "rapture" originates.

Another passage frequently mentioned is 1 Corinthians 15:51-52, which speaks of a mystery where believers will be changed "in the twinkling of an eye" at the last trumpet. These verses have been interpreted as describing an instantaneous transformation and ascension of believers.

However, it's worth noting that the exact term "rapture" does not appear in the Bible, and the belief in a rapture as it's commonly understood today largely stems from interpretations popularised in the 19th and 20th centuries, especially through dispensationalist theology. Other Christians interpret these passages differently and may view them as metaphorical or as describing events at Christ's second coming.

Whether the rapture has a credible scriptural basis depends on one's theological perspective and how these passages are interpreted. Some believers see it as a clear promise, while others consider it a more modern doctrinal development.

Filled with the Fruit of Righteousness

“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now. For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. For it is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have you in my heart, since both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of grace with me. For God is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:3-11 NASB’95)

Paul’s words here were addressed to the saints in Christ Jesus who were in Philippi. So, what he stated here, generally speaking, was for these specific people at this time in history. So the words he expressed here do not necessarily apply to all Christians of all time. And not everyone who professes faith in Jesus Christ today is truly a biblical saint in Christ who is living a holy life, different from the world, because they are being conformed by God to the likeness of character of Christ. Many are still walking in sin.

And not everyone who professes faith in Jesus Christ is truly participating in the gospel of Christ Jesus. For Jesus taught that if anyone would come after him that he must deny self, take up his cross daily (die daily to sin) and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to our lives of living in sin and for self, we will lose them for eternity. But if for Jesus’ sake we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and walk in obedience to his commands, in practice, in the power of God, then we have genuine salvation and eternal life with God.

So, when Paul said to them that he was confident that He who began a good work in them will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus, it was because they were those who had died to sin, who were putting sin to death daily, by the Spirit, and who were following Jesus in obedience to his commands, as empowered by God. They were not people who were giving only lip service to God while they ignored the Lord and his commands, and while they continued living in deliberate and habitual sin, claiming Jesus as Savior.

And when Paul spoke of the grace of God, he was not speaking about free license to continue living in deliberate sin against God. He was speaking of the grace of God which sent Jesus to the cross to put our sins to death with him so that we will now, by God-persuaded faith in the Lord, die with Christ to sin and walk with him in obedience to his commands. He was speaking of the grace of God which is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present.

And when he spoke of their love, that it may abound more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, he was speaking of agape love which prefers what God prefers, which is all that is holy, righteous, godly, morally pure, upright, honest, faithful, and obedient to the Lord and to his commands. For to love God is to obey him, and if we don’t obey him, in practice, we do not love him, and we do not know him, and we will not have eternal life with him. It is not love if we deliberately and habitually sin against God.

And then pay close attention to his next words. He prayed that they would approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ. And to approve is to accept, to support, and to consent to, in this case the things that are excellent in the eyes of God, which has to do with full participation with Christ in these things. So, this is a lot like agape love which has to do with preferring the things of God, choosing his choices for our lives, and obeying them in his power.

And this is so that they would be sincere and blameless (uncontaminated by the world, and unmixed with the world, morally pure, righteous, godly, and free from deceit, hypocrisy, and wickedness) until the day of Christ. And all this would be for the glory and praise of God, and not for their own glory. For we cannot even come to faith in Jesus Christ unless God persuades us as to his holiness and righteousness, and of our sinfulness, and of our need to turn from our sin and to follow him in obedience, empowered by God.

And so it is God who begins the good work in us, and he is the one who will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus, but only as we cooperate with his work of grace in our lives, and we yield our lives to his control, and we follow him in obedience to his commands, and by the Spirit we daily put to death the deeds of the flesh and we obey our Lord, in practice, in his power. For fellowship with God is participation and partnership with him in his work of grace in our lives, and that does not give us freedom to keep on sinning.

Lead Me Gently Home, Father

By Will L. Thompson, 1879

Lead me gently home, Father,
Lead me gently home;
When life’s toils are ended,
And parting days have come,
Sin no more shall tempt me,
Ne’er from Thee I’ll roam,
If Thou’ll only lead me, Father,
Lead me gently home.

Lead me gently home, Father,
Lead me gently home, Father,
Lest I fall upon the wayside,
Lead me gently home.

Lead me gently home, Father,
Lead me gently home;
In life’s darkest hours, Father,
When life’s troubles come,
Keep my feet from wand’ring,
Lest from Thee I roam,
Lest I fall upon the wayside,
Lead me gently home.

Marriage and Monogamous Fornication: Some scenarios that have been puzzling my brain.

A. Two people, a Christian man and a woman, are engaged to be married in a week. You catch them in an act of blatant fornication. In spite of their sinful behavior, both of them want to go through with the wedding and marry each other. Do you allow them to do so? What do you do? Should they be allowed to marry?

(This is what my parents supposedly did, but they never got caught.)

B. Two unbelievers (a man and woman) are living together in a sinful relationship, and both of them become Christians at about the same time. Both of them want to get married because they want to continue living together. What would you advise this couple to do?

(This was the state that one of my Bible study friends found herself in long ago. The church that evangelized them forced them to live apart in purity for 6 months and endure counseling before they were allowed to marry and come back together again.)

C. An unbeliever woman wants to accept the Gospel, but is holding back because she wants to marry her boyfriend first. She is afraid that if she accepts the Gospel first and becomes a part of the church, the Church leaders will separate her and her significant other whom she badly wants to marry. What would you tell her to help her accept the Gospel?

(This was yet another friend of mine that I was trying to evangelize. I thought that she was making her boyfriend into an idol, but I honestly had no idea what to say.)

It should be noted that I and most of the churches I have been to my whole life agree with the beliefs expressed in the SOP for this section; I expect answers given here to be consistent with the listing of beliefs expressed there. I suspect that more liberal denominations would just let monogamous heterosexual fornicators get married without penalty, so I am looking for more conservative answers to these scenarios. Thanks!

How Trump betraying the Budapest Memorandum might lead to WW3

At the fall of the Soviet Union, Ukraine had about a third of their nukes.

In the 1994 Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances, the UK, America, and Russia PLEDGED to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in exchange for Ukraine transferring its nuclear weapons to Russia and joining the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) as a non-nuclear state. PLEDGED!

But then Russia invaded - and now Trump is cheering them on!

What nation is ever going to trust the US again after that betrayal? The message is loud and clear. Keep your nukes - or get your own!

Trump may have just triggered the largest nuclear proliferation humanity will ever see - until "Oh oh - Armageddon by accident" finally gets us.

And Trump was so ignorant about all this HE had the gall to tell Zelensky - "You're gambling with WW3!"

What is Armageddon by Accident?

Well - here are a few times we nearly wiped out the Northern Hemisphere because of silly misunderstandings - there are more!

Reparations for January 6 Political Victims: Attorneys Pave Way to Justice

Is this a talent my friend has?

So I have a friend that I encouraged to do Christian vlogging because I just had a long time impression that it’s something she is capable of. By the way she makes conversations with Christians, it seems that by the way she talks she can probably do impromptu speeches about God. I asked her if she thinks speaking is a talent of gift she has, but she is not sure. So I suggested she tries vlogging and see. So she did so after some years and now she has done numerous vlogs. They are not that long. But today she made one that’s 10 minutes long for the first time. I thought I would share it here. Does anyone thinks it’s a talent from God? I just want to see what others think. And to see if this is a talent or not. This might be the only way I can tell if I am correct. Because if people agree that it’s a talent, then I will really encourage her to take this idea of speaking to another level besides just vlogging (if she desires so).

3D Model Of Yellowstone Hotspot and Plume

I really appreciate the advances in the science of geology.. Below the text that I copied and pasted is a short 25 second video of a 3D model of the Yellowstone Hotspot and Plume. The model goes much deeper into the earth than others that I've seen. The Yellowstone Hotspot plays an important part of the geological features that cover much of the Pacific Northwest for 50 million years. There's a LOT of magma below Yellowstone.

"The Yellowstone plume has been tomographically imaged as a tilted body extending from 80 km depth at the Yellowstone Plateau to 660 km depth beneath western Montana. Geodynamic modeling of the plume finds that the plume is up to 120 K hotter than the surrounding mantle, with a maximum of 2.5% melt and a small buoyancy flux of 0.25 MG/s, properties of a cool, weak plume. Mantle flow modeling is used to constrain the evolution of the hotspot: the Yellowstone plume initially ascended vertically through the mantle beneath the thin, accreted lithosphere of the Columbia Plateau and was responsible for the 17 Ma flood basalts there. At 12 Ma, the plume passed beneath the thicker North American lithosphere and became entrained in eastward upper mantle return flow, resulting in a shift of volcanic activity to the southeast and the onset of rhyolitic eruptions caused by melting in the lithosphere. As the North America plate moved southwest, hotspot volcanism propagated northeast, and the resulting tectonic and magmatic interactions produced the 700-km-long Yellowstone-Snake River Plain magmatic system."
