  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The word "antichrist" is NOT in the Book of Revelation

1 John 2:
18 Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.

There were many antichrists in John's time.

The word appears 5 times and only in John's epistles. This word is NOT found in the Book of Revelation, or Book of Daniel, or the Olivet discourse. Paul never used the term.

HELPS Word-studies
G500 antíxristos (from 473 /antí, "opposite to, in place of" and 5547 /Xristós, "Christ") – properly, opposite to Christ; someone acting in place of (against) Christ; "Antichrist."

Who is an antichrist?

An antichrist could be a human being. 1 John 2:
22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son.

An antichrist could be a spirit. 1 John 4:
3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

2 John 1:
7 I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist.

An antichrist is a liar and deceiver who deny the Father and the Son and that Jesus came in the flesh. There are plenty of those around in John's time and in our times. That's the concept of the antichrist according to John and he did not use this word in the book of Revelation. There is no need to glorify one single individual as THE AntiChrist on the last day as if he is the opposite equal of Christ. There will be plenty of them :)

Josh Hawley Quotes a White Nationalist Publication on July 4th

Josh Hawley, "the GOP lawmaker — who majored in history at Stanford, before getting a law degree from Yale — honored Independence Day by publishing a tweet that quoted Patrick Henry saying the United States was “founded ... on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” Henry, however, never said any such thing: Hawley was actually quoting a report from a white nationalist publication that ran in 1956 — more than a century and a half after the founding father’s death."

Complete quote:
“this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” Historian Seth Cotlar noted that the quotation actually came from the April 1956 issue of a virulently antisemitic white nationalist magazine, The Virginian.

Who hardened Pharaoh's heart? God or Pharaoh himself?

Who hardened Pharaoh's heart? Was it God or Pharaoh himself? If your answer is one or the other, you are only half-right. Even before the hardening of the heart actually happened, Exodus 4:
21 The LORD said to Moses, "When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go."

From a prophetic and vertical point of view, it says here that God is going to harden Pharaoh's heart. However, humanly or horizontally speaking, four chapters later on in Exodus 8:
15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.

Now it says that Pharaoh hardened his own heart while the hardening was actually happening. Note the sequence of events:

1. God prophesied that He was going to harden Pharaoh's heart.
2. God hardened Pharaoh's heart.
3. Pharaoh hardened his own heart.
4. God let us know: See, I told you so. Pharaoh's heart was hardened. God knew that Pharaoh would harden his heart.

This is a basic idea of the Co-Reality Model. The vertical and the horizontal events interact and intertwine to produce a coherent and unified reality. If you ignore either the vertical or the horizontal perspective, you only know half of the truth. Reality can only be understood properly by looking at it from both perspectives.

God is almighty and just, Romans 9:
14 What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15 For he says to Moses,

“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”

16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. 17 For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this **very purpose**, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” 18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

God created Pharaoh for his purpose. Yet, at the same time, Pharaoh was responsible for what he did.

Is cremation OK for a Christian?

Yes. Jonathan was a good guy and his body was burned, 1 Samuel 31:

1Now the Philistines fought against Israel; the Israelites fled before them, and many fell dead on Mount Gilboa. 2The Philistines were in hot pursuit of Saul and his sons, and they killed his sons Jonathan, Abinadab and Malki-Shua.

11 When the people of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul, 12 all their valiant men marched through the night to Beth Shan. They took down the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth Shan and went to Jabesh, where they burned them.

Some Catholic people are against it, particularly the SSPX.

And Then the End Will Come

Matthew 24:9-14 ESV

“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

This was Jesus speaking to his disciples in response to their question, “What will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” So, first he talked about false christs who will lead many people astray, and about wars and rumors of wars, and about nation rising against nation, and of famines and earthquakes, but that these are but the beginning of the birth pains. And personally I believe “false christs” are those who try to take the place of Jesus in people’s hearts, and they may not all claim they are the Christ.

But then those of us who are walking in fellowship with the Lord, who are doing his will, who are following in his ways, and who are no longer living in sin, we will be delivered up to tribulation, and some of us or all of us will ultimately be put to death by those who hate us for the sake of the name of Jesus Christ. But not just for his name, for his name is now being very popularized. But a false christ is largely being taught instead of the Christ of the Scriptures. And so many people are falling in love with this false christ.

And who is this false christ? He is the image that is being painted of Jesus Christ by many false prophets and preachers and teachers, and via movies, videos, books, memes, cartoons, and children’s programs, etc. They have “dumbed him down,” i.e. they have altered and lowered Jesus’ character to make him more acceptable to the ungodly and to human flesh, same as they have done with the message of the gospel, and in order to attract large crowds of people from the world to their gatherings.

So, those of us who are teaching the true character of Jesus Christ and of his gospel message are those who are being hated and put to death (literally or not). And that is because we are contradicting the lies of the enemy with the truth of the Scriptures, and our enemy does not like that, and so he is out to destroy us. And so he will find many different ways to come after us in hopes to put an end to us and to silence us. For he does not want people to hear the truth, but he wants them to believe his lies.

And the enemy’s messengers can be very persuasive, and so many people follow them. And many of them have become convinced that the lies are the truth and the truth is the lie, and that the liars are the good guys while the truth tellers are the bad guys. And so they end up rejecting and casting aside those who are telling them the truth while they are embracing those who are telling them lies. And then people who are to love one another end up hating and betraying one another, and this is where we are now.

And the BIG LIE that is largely being spread, at least across America, is that we can “believe” in Jesus Christ – “belief” not usually biblically defined – and now all our sins are forgiven (past, present, and future), and heaven is now guaranteed us when we die, but regardless of how we live. But that is not the gospel message that Jesus and his NT apostles taught. They taught we must die with Christ to sin and live to him and to his righteousness, in obedience to him, if we want salvation from sin and eternal life with God.

And because of what they are teaching, and because many of them are even teaching that we don’t have to repent of our sins, and we don’t have to obey God, and that no works are required of us by God at all, lawlessness has increased, and the love of many has grown cold, in particularly of those who have gotten trapped into sexual sin and idolatry and who love their idols but who hate those they are supposed to love. So they end up hating the godly and accepting the ungodly, instead.

But we have to endure to the end if we want to be saved from our sins and to have eternal life with God. We have to remain strong in the Lord and steadfast in faith to the very end. We must continue to walk now according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh, and to die daily to sin and to self and to follow our Lord in obedience. We must not give way to the enemy of our souls or give up just because things got a whole lot harder. But we must persevere in the strength of the Lord.

And I love this part here where it says that the gospel of the kingdom of God will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. And I do know that the truth of the gospel is still being taught by a minority of followers of Christ, and that, via the internet, it is going out to people throughout the world, but I don’t know if it has reached every nation yet. But when it does, the end will come, according to the Scriptures. And us who follow Christ in truth have the hope of heaven.

Songs in the Night

An Original Work / December 18, 2013

“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.” Acts 16:25 NIV ‘84

Lord, I praise You forevermore.
You, my Savior, I now adore.
Hope in heaven awaiting me,
Because You died at Calvary.

I have been forgiven,
And I’m bound for heaven.
Jesus set me free from
All my sin, I say.
I will praise Him always!

Lord, I love You for all You’ve done:
Overcame death, my vict’ry won!
Jesus saved me, and now I’m free!
I rejoice in His love for me.

I will walk in vict’ry!
My sin is but hist’ry!
I am free to please Him
With my life today.
I will love Him always!

Lord, I thank You for giving me
A new life bought at Calvary.
Loving Jesus, I meet with Him.
Tender mercies now flow within.

Lord, I am so thankful;
Through my Lord, I’m able
To sit at His table;
Fellowship with Him.
I will thank Him always!

Prosecutors added at last minute to Hunter Biden probe: whistleblower team

Prosecutors who approved a probation-only plea agreement for first son Hunter Biden apparently replaced veteran counselors late in the investigation, according to lawyers for an IRS whistleblower who oversaw key aspects of the case.

Delaware US Attorney David Weiss’ team undertook a five-year probe into Hunter’s alleged tax and gun crimes, but several prosecutors who worked with IRS supervisory agent Gary Shapley were left off the charging documents filed June 20.

English Standard Version: I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.

What sources do Liberal Christians accept as authoritative?

What sources do Liberal Christians accept as authoritative?
In your own theology, what do you use and accept? Is it just your own personal experience(s) / encounter(s) with God or do you accept other sources (the Bible, creeds, etc)? When you arrive at a conclusion, how do you know it is the right one? I am just curious as to how other liberal Christians would answer these questions.

I will answer for myself by deferring to what has been called the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. Though I do not necessarily understand myself as planted in Wesleyan theology, I nonetheless affirm a similar approach to epistemology. So this would be Scripture (Jewish, Intertestamental, Christian testament), tradition (creeds), reason / logic (including higher criticism) and personal experience(s). Or to state this in a more personalized way: it is Scripture, as later understood by Scripture, and then by the Church, and then by textual criticism and finally in my own life experience.

Six Months To Live

Hi y'all, I could really use prayers for my friend, Scott. He's older (in his 60's) and was just told that he has about 6 months left since he has cancer spreading all over his body. He's starting to come to terms with it. He says he's a believers so I just keep praying that he continues to focus on the Lord. I could also use prayers for myself... On what to say or not say (Maybe it's best just to be there for him and not speak). I just don't know what else to do but pray. I've heard of others who knew people who were told they don't have much time left, but to have it happen to a friend hits on a whole new level.

Thank you!

Will Hunter Biden face prostitution-related charges?

Tucked deep within IRS criminal investigators’ testimony about Hunter Biden is the revelation that the Justice Department, in addition to probing tax and gun crimes, was also collecting data to charge the president’s son with transporting prostitutes across state lines.

According to the investigators, who testified as whistleblowers, Hunter Biden regularly flew prostitutes to meet him in California, Boston and the District of Columbia.

Sometimes he flew them in for just a night, and sometimes he paid first class for their trips. He wrote off the costs on his tax forms as business expense deductions.

"Israel, My Servant"

Isaiah 41:8-11 ESV

“But you, Israel, my servant,
Jacob, whom I have chosen,
the offspring of Abraham, my friend;
you whom I took from the ends of the earth,
and called from its farthest corners,
saying to you, “You are my servant,
I have chosen you and not cast you off”;
fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Behold, all who are incensed against you
shall be put to shame and confounded;
those who strive against you
shall be as nothing and shall perish.”

First, I want to say that not everything written in the Old Testament applies to our lives today, although we can learn from the Old Testament Scriptures as well as from the New Testament with regard to what our lives are to look like if we are true followers of Jesus Christ. For example, we are not under the Old Covenant, so we do not have to obey those old liturgical, ceremonial, sacrificial, purification, and dietary laws and restrictions.

But I believe this passage of Scripture can be applied to our lives today if we are of genuine faith in Jesus Christ via dying with Christ to sin and being raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer as slaves to sin, but now as slaves to God and to his righteousness (Romans 6:1-23). For if we are of true faith in Christ, then we are true Israel, according to the Scriptures. And we are now God’s chosen people, the offspring of Abraham.

For it is not all who are physically descended from Abraham or from Israel who belong to Israel or who are the children of Abraham. For it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise. And the promise was given to Abraham and to his seed, and his seed is Jesus Christ. So if we belong to Christ, then we are Abraham’s seed, and we are heirs according to the promise.

For, via Jesus’ death and resurrection, God’s purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two (Jew and Gentile), thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, and by faith in Jesus Christ. So, we who are Gentiles by physical birth, if we believe in Jesus Christ, are now fellow heirs with the Jews who also believe in Jesus Christ, for we are now members of the same body, and partakers of the promise of Christ Jesus through the gospel.

So, according to God/Jesus, the Jews who do not believe in Jesus Christ cannot claim Abraham as their father or God as their father, for their father is the devil, and they serve him. For since they did not receive Jesus Christ as their Messiah, they do not know God the Father. So they are not of God. But they are antichrist, denying the Father and the Son, and they are of Hagar, the slave woman, and not of free woman.

For they were cut out of the vine of Israel, and the Gentile believers in Christ were grafted into Israel. But the unbelieving Jews can be grafted back into Israel through genuine faith in Jesus Christ. So all Israel is both Jew and Gentile by genuine God-given faith in Jesus Christ and not by physical birth. And the physical city of Jerusalem is not the holy city. We who believe in Jesus are that holy city, and we are now the temple of God.

[John 8:18-19,38-47; Romans 9:4-8; Romans 11:17-25; Galatians 3:16,26-29; Galatians 4:22-31; Ephesians 2:14-18; Ephesians 3:6; 1 John 2:22]

Therefore, these words spoken to the Israel of old can now be applied to our lives, for we are now Israel, God’s chosen people, the offspring of Abraham, friends of God, whom God has called from the ends of the earth. And if we are of genuine faith in Jesus Christ, then we are to also be the Lord’s servants, doing his will for our lives. And regardless of what we are going through in this life, God has not forsaken us. He is there for us.

But sometimes in our lives we may feel as though God has forsaken us. But it we are his servants, and if our faith in him is God-given faith, and so we have died with him to sin, and we are living to his righteousness, in his power, then no matter what we are going through God is there with us, and he will give us the strength that we need to endure whatever trials we may be facing or may yet will be going through.

So we can be encouraged that no matter how bad things get, and we are not promised that they are going to get better, that God is on our side if we are indeed on his side and if we are following him with our lives. And he will uphold us with his righteous right hand if we will let him, and if we will yield control of our lives over to him, and if we will trust him with our lives and with our circumstances and believe in his sovereignty over our lives.

Now some of those trials are going to involve persecutions for our walks of faith in Jesus Christ. And there are people who are and who will be incensed against us if we are truly following Jesus with our lives and not the flesh. And they will strive against us because we are following Christ and not the flesh, and some of them may be others who profess faith in Jesus, and even some pastors who are worldly and so they will reject the truly godly.

Now, one day our enemies are going to be dealt with by God because of how they have treated the Lord’s servants. This may not happen in our lifetime, but we do know that both the Old and New Testaments teach that the enemies of the cross of Christ will one day perish in their sins. We should be praying for them that God will change their hearts and that they will come to true faith in Christ. And we should pray for God to give us strength to endure what we are now going through and what is yet to come.

Is this a problem with time-travel?

Let`s say you can travel in time, make everything around you, travel in time, wouldn`t the surge of time, when it hits a person, notice it and resist the change? I mean, the soul, or mind, isn`t dead materie, so it`d notice the surge, and resist it, so perhaps, everything of materie around him or her changes, but the person itself, would resist the change, and stay the same, doesn`t that make time-travel, impossible? You`d en up in a different time perhaps, but you`d still be the same, if someone else initated time-travel? You`d notice the change, and resist it, by will alone?

How to identify a Full Preterist in Partial Preterist clothing in this section of the board.

Seems rather simple to me, how to do that. That's assuming that there are actually Full Preterists in Partial Preterist's clothing in this section of the board. Maybe there is, maybe there isn't. Any Preterist posting in this section of the board, where it's questionable as to whether they are Partial or Full, simply request that they submit any Scripture that proves to them there will be a 2nd advent of Christ in the end of this age.

And if they can and do, they obviously can't be Full Preterists then. But if they can't or unwilling to, it's a no-brainer then, it's because they are a Full Preterist in Partial Preterist clothing, since it is ludicrous to insist one believes that there is indeed a 2nd advent of Christ in the end of this age, meaning a literal bodily advent as was the first advent, but then not being able to produce one single Scripture they feel supports this.

Though, I disagree that any coming of Christ recorded in the Discourse is involving a coming of Christ in 70 AD in any sense, that hardly makes one a Full Preterist if they interpret any of those comings in that manner. What makes them a Full Preterist, thus a Full Preterist in Partial Preterist clothing, is if they insist that that there is indeed a 2nd advent of Christ in the end of this age, but then can't produce one single Scripture in all of the Bible they feel supports this.

How is it reasonable to insist there will be a 2nd advent of Christ in the end of this age, and then not even being able to produce one single Scripture that supports that, thus showing that that person does not actually believe that, otherwise they would be able to produce Scripture that they feel supports it. And so what if they don't feel any coming recorded in the Discourse supports a 2nd advent of Christ in the end of this age? Once again, that alone does not make them a Full Preterist unless they can't produce one single Scripture from elsewhere that they do feel supports a 2nd advent of Christ in the end of this age.

One point of this thread is this. I have noted certain other members attaching to certain other members, the "Full Preterist' label. And that they should not be doing that unless they can undeniably prove they are indeed Full Preterists pretending to be Partial Preterists. What I have proposed in the OP would be one way to undeniably prove they are Full Preterists, if the one being accused of this, when asked to produce any Scripture they feel supports a 2nd advent in the end of this age, that they then can't do that or unwilling to do that.

Giving Back What Was Not Ours to Take

Are we being asked by God to personally and willingly relinquish our knowledge of good and evil in favour of innocence while maintaining our original creativity? The Kingdom seems to support the notion that evil ways will be forgotten and no longer available as an option to avoid , unlike as it originally was in the Garden. Would you now give up that knowledge while yet in this life to show your willingness to follow the will of God? How would that affect your everyday life and those around you?

Hardened heart reversed

Is there any biblical examples of people that had gotten hardened hearts but God later, for some reason, chose to soften it without their repentance?
And I don't mean backsliding like David did, I mean hardened hearts like Pharaoh for example. Thank you in advance, I will try to look it up as well.

It's kind of a catch-22 scenario because in my definition a hardened heart can no longer repent, because they already have had their chances to repent, but repentance would be the key to getting a soft heart again. So the only way would be if God, for any other reason, would from his initiative choose to soften their heart. I just don't know for what reason, but if there is even one example that would mean a lot

1. The Papacy - I have done a lot of research on it, and it just seems the Vatican I Papacy doesn't fit with with the early church

2. The priest hood - I can't find a sacerdotal priesthood in the New Testament. I have seen explanations of where they think it's from, but the word priest is only used for Jesus as high priest, and the priesthood of all believers in the NT.

Has anyone else had these same objections, and then changed their mind?

The planet saw its hottest day ever this week.

On Monday, the average global temperature reached 17.01 degrees Celsius (62.62 Fahrenheit), the highest since records began. On Tuesday, it climbed even further, to reach 17.18 degrees Celsius. The previous record of 16.92 degrees Celsius was set in August 2016.

This global record is a preliminary one, but it’s another indication of how fast the world is heating up, as the arrival of the natural climate phenomenon El Niño, which has a warming effect, is layered on top of climate change-fueled global heating.

From Careless to Zealous - My Journey to Truth

Hi everyone! First time posting here. I'm not sure what to start with about myself, so I guess I'll talk briefly about my story, as someone who was not raised in the church.

I first called on the the name of Christ in 2015 (at the age of 26) after a lifetime of being relatively indifferent to all matters related to religion, and basically had to learn the hard way after a life of sin that you can't outrun the Lord (big surprise).

I actually just completed a testimony video this week chronicling my life experiences that ultimately led up to my conversion, which I'll share in a link below for any who may be interested (it is quite lengthy, but the responses I've received have been overwhelmingly positive thus far).

I'm an Orthodox Christian, so I am partial to a certain perspective on a number of matters, but I suppose that's the case with everyone, depending on your presuppositions.

I'm a lover of apologetics, so I appreciate thoughtful discussions and don't mind challenging others beliefs or being challenged (as may inevitably occur in my testimony; although, despite potential disagreements with certain conclusions I present, I think there's a little something in there for everyone, whether you're Roman Catholic, Protestant, some other religion, "spiritual but not religious", or even atheist/agnostic).

I've been sharing my faith around with the hopes of inspiring people who may be on the fence spiritually to take that next step as a leap of faith, as well as to encourage those who already believe in God to invest themselves deeper and getting more serious.

I'm passionate about wanting to help others understand the things I wish I'd known sooner; to expose those in our modern culture to the ancient traditions of the Early Church; to present church history to those unfamiliar with it; to explore and understand Theology in greater depth, and, of course, to reveal the love of God.

I pray that this is edifying in some small way and I look forward to meeting new people in the near future. I welcome all feedback both positive and critical, and hopefully will get to engage in some constructive dialogue along the way. God bless you!
