  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

GOP Georgia District Chair Kandiss 'Jesus Guns Babies' Taylor: 'The church runs the government, don't elect non-Christians, no freedom of religion'

Republican Chair Says Only Christians Should Be Elected to Government

Kandiss Taylor, the Republican chair of Georgia's 1st congressional district, said on her Jesus, Guns, & Babies show that "we shouldn't be electing anyone in government...who isn't Christian."

In the episode streamed on Rumble on August 17, she told Erik Corcoran, founder of Businesses for Liberty, that "The Constitution is founded on common law; common law comes out of the Bible," adding that the entire premise of the United States' governing rules and structure is related to Jesus and God.

"You can't separate the two," she said of common law and the Bible. She continued: "The idea behind the whole document was that the church runs the state. The church and we the people. We are the church...and so we run the state. But the state, the government, has no control over the church."

Taylor added, "And everybody is like, 'Then you gotta let Satanists come in, and you gotta let witches come in, and you've gotta let Muslims and Hindus.' No, no, we don't.

"I don't have to give you 'freedom' of religion."

I don't need anything from you, Kandiss. I have my constitutional freedom already.

Am i being condemned?

My pastor says he sees no repentance in my eyes and that I'm not bearing good fruit, so for those reasons he will not let me sing or play piano in church. He says I'm a spiritually dangerous person and a danger to his ministry. Yet I am changed. I'm not perfect and I sin and mess up. But he will not let me worship God through music because of the things I've done recently. But I asked God to forgive me. And I know God wants me to sing because he gave me a gift. And he commands us to sing but I'm not allowed because I used to do marijuana and because I told people about the way he has been doing me therefore I'm a danger to his ministry and can't sing. Am I overreacting or am I being condemned? I need advice

Transubstantiation

I am not questioning or challenging what we Catholics term "Real Presence" in the Eucharist.
On another thread I expressed a possible need to explain how it occurs.

In the Catechism we find:

1376 The Council of Trent summarizes the Catholic faith by declaring: "Because Christ our Redeemer said that it was truly his body that he was offering under the species of bread, it has always been the conviction of the Church of God, and this holy Council now declares again, that by the consecration of the bread and wine there takes place a change of the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the body of Christ our Lord and of the whole substance of the wine into the substance of his blood. This change the holy Catholic Church has fittingly and properly called transubstantiation."

The problem is "substance".

What do we mean by that term. I don't think the catechism tells us.

In 252 it does say:
The Church uses
(I) the term "substance" (rendered also at times by "essence" or "nature") to designate the divine being in its unity,
(II) the term "person" or "hypostasis" to designate the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in the real distinction among them, and
(III) the term "relation" to designate the fact that their distinction lies in the relationship of each to the others.

New Advent tells us:
It is necessary, therefore, to recognize in each thing certain secondary realities (see ACCIDENT) and also a permanent fundamentum which continues to exist notwithstanding the superficial changes, which serves as a basis or support for the secondary realities — what, in a word, we term the substance. Its fundamental characteristic is to be in itself and by itself, and not in another subject as accidents are.

So in the Eucharist we are saying that the substance, the fundamental characteristic is changed even though everything we know to be "bread and wine", breadness and wineness remain. Now, Aristotle and Plato would say that breadness and wineness are the substances. They are all that make bread bread and wine wine. St Thomas kind of twisted their notion of substance in a way they did not intend.

It seems to me that we are really talking about the introduction of Christ's presence, not as a material substance, but as a non material spiritual reality. That would be substance in a conceptual sense, like the substance of an idea, or argument or theory. For example, what is the substance of a person? It would seem to be an enduring conscious personality and center of awareness. Not some transcendent immaterial particle.

The ancient concern about mater and substance no longer seems to serve us in an age where we acknowledge the dynamic change and process of all things around us.

I feel like God is over me

I know I whined about this earlier this week but I can't shake the feeling, so many Christians have these experiences that draw them back to God and they get to feel God's presense and pull, I haven't. I realized that Free Grace isn't sound doctrine and was scared to go to Hell, no overwhelming emotions, no reaching the end of myself, just I see Hell. I don't wanna go. God can keep me out of Hell. Let me go to him. I know it's selfish and I'm aware that when I believe and trust in him I am saved. But it feels like he isn't there for me. I read the word and feel nothing in me change. I pray and feel nothing. At this point I feel like I need to make terrible decisions so that I can come to end of myself so that God might accept me. All I wanted is to not go to hell and I don't think God wants that for me

The Democrats’ Radical Shift From ‘Safe, Legal and Rare’ to Abortion Vans

The 2024 platform is a long way from 1992’s.

CHICAGO — Sixteen years ago feels like an eternity in terms of the Democratic Party’s messaging on abortion.

Speaking at a 2008 “Faith and Compassion” forum for Democratic presidential candidates, former president Barack Obama critiqued his party’s approach to the abortion issue.

“There is a moral dimension to abortion, which I think that all too often those of us who are pro-choice have not talked about or tried to tamp down,” he said.

That same evening, his opponent for the Democratic nomination, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, said she believed abortion “should remain legal, but it needs to be safe and rare — and by rare, I mean rare.” Her husband, former president Bill Clinton, introduced the phrase into American politics during his presidential run in 1992.

90-foot tall bronze statue of Hindu monkey god erected in Texas; sparks controversy

article said:
Conservatives are raging over the arrival of a 90-foot tall statue of Hanuman, a Hindu deity that is half-human and half-monkey, in Texas. The figure, officially titled the "Statue of Union," is now reportedly the third tallest statue in the continental U.S., trailing only the 151-foot tall Statue of Liberty in New York and the 110-foot tall Pegasus and Dragon statue in Hallandale Beach, Florida.

It's on private land, owned by the temple....you can't legally say that it needs to come down, unless Christians want to have the risk of statues of Christ come down as well. I'm not happy about huge bronze idols being erected in America, but I guess it just illustrates the fact that this country is disintegrating, crumbling within, severing itself from its historical roots, and teetering on the brink of extinction. Sic transit gloria mundi. :(

"Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that he will address the nation about the path forward for his campaign Friday in Arizona, amid advanced discussions with former president Donald Trump and his campaign team about dropping out of the race and endorsing the Republican nominee, according to multiple people familiar with the conversations."

What would this mean for the election? Could enough RFK supports tilt the scales in favor of Trump?

To me, that is the glaring hole in this campaign that hasn’t yet been solved at the convention. How do you explain all of the problems that will be solved by the person who is currently in there for the last 3.5 years and who is supposed to be already working on solving it?

Looking for Online Source for NASB 77 and .........

I am fortunate to have an older decent quality NASB 77 by Broadman and Holman.

However,
I would also like to have that translation available in websites such as Biblia etc. I have not been able to find any. Any help would be appreciated

I realize the NASB 95 is still available on most of those websites. I am also very pleased with that translation.

Trump says he would rehire military members fired over vaccine mandate with back pay

Former President Donald Trump vowed, if elected come November, to rehire military service members who were let go for rejecting the COVID-19 vaccination and promised they would receive an apology with back pay.

"Kamala [Harris] and Crooked Joe purged 8,000 service members from our military for refusing their COVID vaccine mandate. They refused to do it," Trump said at an Asheboro, North Carolina, rally on Wednesday.

He added, "We didn't want a mandate. The mandate — you just can't do that."

"I will rehire every patriot that was fired with an apology and back pay. They will get their back pay and an apology from our government," he declared as the crowd loudly applauded.

The Republican presidential nominee said he hopes the former military service members now have "great jobs" while "making a lot of money" but hopes they want to come back.

"The mandate stuff should have never happened," he said to the rallygoers.

As of October 2023, only 43 of the fired 8,000 service members have rejoined the military following the repeal of the vaccine mandate.

Several groups, including First Liberty Institute and New Civil Liberties Alliance, have sued over the federal vaccine mandates and unconstitutional COVID-19 executive action.

While speaking during the rally, Trump also criticized the Biden-Harris administration's handling of the military and its morale.

Who did it better?

The Five Solas are in the Bible

Over the past few years, I heard several arguments about why the Five Solas are not Biblical. One of them was that Protestantism is only few hundreds years old, and the church fathers taught differently. Well, let's look at God's own Word and let's see if the Five Solas are Biblical or not.

Glory to God alone - Isaiah 42:8 I am the LORD; that is my name; my glory I give to no other.
God will not give His glory to another because all glory, honour, and praise belong to Him alone. If someone says that the 'glory to God alone' is false, that person calls God a liar. All the glory belongs to God alone, there is no argument to have here.

Christ alone - John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
If anyone tries to get to the Father any other way, they will fail.
Christ alone died on the cross, Christ alone atoned for the sins, Christ alone paid the penalty for sin, no one else had any part on this, no one.
1 Timothy 2 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. We see there is only one mediator, and that is Christ alone.
John 17 “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.' Christ alone has the authority all over the flesh to save anyone He pleases. Only He can save you, only He can forgive your sin. No one else can do that. Therefore, Christ alone, there is no argument here.

By grace alone - Ephesians 2 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
The grace of God is His undeserved favour bestowed on those He has called to salvation through His love.
We see from Ephesians 2 8 that by only grace alone are we saved, not deeds. We are all sinners, not one deserves the love of God that He shown through His Son on the cross. If someone thinks they can get saved by doing deeds, they reject God's grace. But no one can save them-selves. Therefore, God's grace alone can save you. There is no argument here.

By faith alone - the righteous shall live by his faith Habakuk 2:4
Genesis 15:6 ' Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.'
Romans 3 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:
John 5 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
It's all about faith. We are all dead in our sins, unable to save ourselves.
It is not faith + deeds, if it was, what was the point of Jesus' sacrifice?
Romans 4 5 And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness,
The only thing needed for your salvation is to believe in the perfect work of Christ on the cross. Christ's death and His resurrection are the works that save us. We receive our Saviour by faith. Salvation comes by God’s grace through faith, and that faith is made manifest in good works. The works follow the faith and are a proof of it. Faith alone, there is no argument to have here that faith alone in Christ saves you.

Scripture alone - Bible is the Word of God. The Bible declares itself to be God-breathed, inerrant, and authoritative.
How can man-made traditions be superior to the Word of God as many believe? As Lord say in Mark 7 6 And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, “‘This people honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; 7 in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ 8 You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.”
The Word of God is the ultimate and only infallible authority for the Christian faith. Traditions are valid only when they conform with Scripture. Traditions that contradict the Bible are not of God and are not a valid aspect of the Christian faith. Sola scriptura is the only way to avoid subjectivity and keep personal opinion from taking priority over the teachings of the Bible. The essence of sola scriptura is basing one’s spiritual life on the Bible alone and rejecting any tradition or teaching that is not in full agreement with the Bible. Therefore, there is no argument to have here.

Massive job revision pulls the veil off Biden’s happy-face economy

The U.S. economy added 818,000 fewer jobs from early 2023 to early 2024 than the government previously reported, a sizable revision that could affect the Federal Reserve’s decisions on interest rates and reverberate in the presidential campaign.

The Labor Department said monthly figures overstated job growth in the 12-month period that ended in March.

Wednesday’s report was part of a routine annual process. However, the revision was the biggest downward change since the financial crisis in 2009.

It also adds to previously reported signs of an employment slowdown, which sparked a major selloff on Wall Street earlier this month.

Do You Blame God?

“Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am being tempted by God,’ for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
“Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.” (James 1:13-18 ESV)

Certainly there are professing Christians in this world of ours who are still living in sin, still addicted to various sinful habits, who blame God when they are tempted or when they give in to sin, as though it is God’s fault somehow that they chose to sin of their own free wills. Or they will pass the blame on to someone else rather than take the blame for themselves for the evil that they committed. But it is true that we can be led into sin by those who tempt us to sin, but we still make the choice to sin or not to sin.

Yet it is also true that not everyone who is tempted of the devil to sin is tempted because of his/her own evil desire, for Jesus Christ, who was sinless, was tempted of the devil in the wilderness. And Job, who was a righteous man, was tempted of the devil when God permitted Satan to attack him physically and to murder his children and servants and livestock. For even if we are living holy lives unto God we may still face temptation of the devil to give in to fear or to give up hope, or whatever.

But there are people who are regularly being tempted to sin against the Lord because of all the evil that is stored up in their hearts. For the Bible teaches that “out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.” And it is true that what is stored up in our hearts will come out in our behaviors and words and attitudes. But also the “good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good.” So store up good in your hearts. (see Luke 6:45; Matthew 15:17-20)

Now there are many professing Christians today who are convinced that they are saved, sanctified, and on their way to heaven, based on a profession of faith that they made to believe in Jesus Christ one time in their lives. And so they are still living life for themselves and for the pleasures of the flesh, believing that God’s grace covers it all. But the Scriptures teach us if sin is what we practice, and not righteousness, and not walks of obedience to our Lord, that we will not inherit eternal life with God. We will die in our sins.

[Matt 7:21-23; Lu 9:23-26; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Rom 2:6-8; Rom 6:1-23; Rom 8:1-14; Rom 12:1-2; 1 Co 6:9-10,19-20; 1 Co 10:1-22; 2 Co 5:10,15,21; Gal 5:16-24; Gal 6:7-8; Eph 2:8-10; Eph 4:17-32; Eph 5:3-6; Col 1:21-23; Col 3:1-17; Titus 2:11-14; 1 Jn 1:5-10; 1 Jn 2:3-6,24-25; 1 Jn 3:4-10; 1 Pet 2:24; Heb 3:1-19; Heb 4:1-13; Heb 10:23-31; Heb 12:1-2]

So, do not be deceived!! God has not changed! His word has not changed. Yes, we are not living under the Old Covenant liturgical and ceremonial laws that the Jews of old had to follow. But Jesus gave his life up for us “to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.” And he said that not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the ones DOING the will of God the Father in heaven. (see Titus 2:11-14; Matthew 7:21-23)

Jesus died on that cross in order to put our sins to death with him so that by faith in him we will now be crucified with him in death to sin and raised with him to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin, but now as slaves to God and to his righteousness. And he shed his blood for us to buy us back for God (to redeem us) out of our lives of living in slavery to sin so that we will now honor him with our bodies, and so we will now follow him in obedience to his commands in holy living, in the power of God.

Living Water

An Original Work / November 21, 2013
Based off Various Scriptures

My people have forsaken Me,
Their Savior, who died on a tree;
Made idols, and they worshipped them;
So empty, they will ne’er fulfill.

Lord, You are the hope of Your chosen ones.
Those who turn away from You will be shamed;
The Spring of Living Water left behind.

Living Water satisfies.

The thirsty, let them come and drink;
Believe in Jesus as their King;
The gift of Jesus given them,
So they will never thirst again.

Indeed, the Living Water flows within.
It springs up like a fountain cleansing sin.
Eternal life in heaven promised them.

Living Water glorifies.

Oh people, won’t you come to Him?
Obey Him and repent of sin.
Let Jesus come and live within.
Surrender all your life to Him.

My people, won’t you turn your hearts to Me?
Forsake your idols and then you’ll be free.
Won’t you come now to Me on bended knee?

Living Water sanctifies.

Relevant Bible verse for the song:
Romans 5:6-8 (ESV): "For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Who Am I (Lyrics, 2003 original, 2021 cover):

Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth would care to know my name?
Would care to feel my hurt?
Who am I, that the bright and morning star would choose to light the way
For my ever wandering heart?
Not because of who I am
But because of what you've done
Not because of what I've done
But because of who you are
I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean (ocean)
A vapor in the wind
Still you hear me when I'm calling
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling
And you've told me who I am
I am yours, I am yours
Who am I, that the eyes that see my sin would look on me with love
And watch me rise again
Who am I, that the voice that calmed the sea would call out through the rain
And calm the storm in me?
Not because of who I am
But because of what you've done
Not because of what I've done
But because of who you are
I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean (ocean)
A vapor in the wind
Still you hear me when I'm calling
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling
And you've told me who I am (I am)
I am yours
Not because of who I am
But because of what you've done
Not because of what I've done
But because of who you are
I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean (ocean)
A vapor in the wind
Still you hear me when I'm calling
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling
And you've told me who I am (I am)
I am yours
I am yours
I am yours
Whom shall I fear?
Whom shall I fear?
'Cause I am yours
I am yours

“Filled With Emotions”

The past years, several months and days have been filled with my oldest daughter preparing for graduation and now venturing off to college. Since Spring, it’s been a whirlwind of preparing for graduation, her grad party and now getting everything ready to send her off to college.

As I write this, tears are filling my eyes. I’m just filled with emotions. I’m thinking of the memories I’ve had with my daughter and watching her grow into the beautiful young woman she has become. The past few years have been quite challenging in many ways as she navigated some difficult times, but learned and persevered through them. I am so proud of the woman she is now and who God is going to lead her to be in the coming years.

As you can imagine, emotions have been all over the place for my wife and I as we navigate this new season of life. I don’t really know how all to explain the emotions I’m seeing in our home and the emotions I’m personally feeling. I’m excited for her, but also sad that I’m letting her go into the world by herself.

I’ve been telling my wife that I’ve struggled with the feelings of “Did I teach her enough? Did I instill enough Godly values in her? Did I spend enough time showing her I love her? Did I take enough time doing things with her?” The questions just keep filling my mind as emotions run through me. This is a new season of life and I’m not quite sure how to handle the emotions and……I want to be strong for my wife and, my oldest and my youngest. But, it’s okay to show emotions.

Friday, we take her to college and we come home without her for a while. It’s going to be hard and it will be a transition for us. What I know most of all is that God’s in complete control and He will guide her and we just have to trust His timing and protection throughout her life. As she experiences college, as she finds a Godly man when the timing is right and enters marriage and as she one day has a family of her own.

Lord, please protect my daughter as she ventures out on her own. I pray she will take all that we’ve taught her and develop her own faith and become stronger. Thank you for these 18 years of watching her grow and blossom. I’m excited to see what You have in store for her life and where You will lead her. Please help my wife and I adjust to this transition as well as my daughter as she ventures on her own. We give her to You and trust Your leading in her life. Amen.

As an unashamedly pro-life Christian who believes “life begins at conception,” New York Times journalist David French has announced that, “I’m going to vote for Kamala Harris in 2024 and — ironically enough — I’m doing it in part to try to save conservatism.” With all respect to Mr. French, with whom I’ve dialogued privately about this, I find his position both indefensible and bizarre.

For my part, I am no starry-eyed, adorer of former President Trump, for whom I voted twice.

In June 2022, I expressed my preference for another GOP candidate rather than Trump.

And on January 6, 2021, as the Capitol riot was taking place, I stated that Trump was morally responsible for the mayhem, not because he intended for it to happen but because of his irresponsible rhetoric in the previous months.

In fact, Trump supporters who read my columns on a regular basis know that, to their dismay and even disgust, whenever I speak well of Trump’s accomplishments, I offer a series of caveats and disclaimers.

Trump's Former US national security adviser HR McMaster claims Vladimir Putin manipulated Donald Trump’s ‘ego and insecurities’

The bold assessment of Trump’s fealty to Putin comes in McMaster’s book At War With Ourselves: My Tour of Duty in the Trump White House, published by HarperCollins and arriving on 27 August. The Guardian obtained a copy.

“After over a year in this job, I cannot understand Putin’s hold on Trump,” McMaster recalls saying in the memoir covering the turbulent 457 days the now retired general served as national security adviser from February 2017 until he was effectively fired by tweet in April 2018.

While other western leaders were beginning to formulate a strong response to the assassination attempt [on Sergei Skripal, a Russian former intelligence officer, and his daughter], McMaster says, Trump sat in the White House fawning over a New York Post article with the headline: “Putin heaps praise on Trump, pans US politics”. Trump, according to the book, wrote an appreciative note on the article with a black Sharpie and asked McMaster “to get the clipping to Putin”.

“On Putin and Russia, I had been swimming upstream with the president from the beginning,” writes McMaster, whose successor as national security adviser, John Bolton, also ended up falling out with the president and went on to become one of numerous former administration officials to condemn Trump’s re-election effort.
