  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The dark side of legalization of recreational marijuana

Marijuana
Marijuana | Unsplash/CRYSTALWEED cannabis

Twenty-four states have already legalized recreational marijuana (pot) and four states, Florida, Idaho, Nebraska and South Dakota, have ballot initiatives in the 2024 election to do the same. Big money is being spent to push these ballot initiatives because even more big money will be made. Whatever you have heard about the benefits of legal recreational pot, there is a destructive dark underside being covered up.

The following consequences will occur when recreational pot is legalized:

1. Increased highway accidents causing death and injury by drivers high on pot.[1]

2. Increased ER visits from drug overdoses in children, students and adults.[2]

3. Increases in serious crime as more drug lords move in to undercut the expensive legal product.[3]

4. Brain damage to developing minds.[4]

5. Farmland gobbled up to grow pot instead of food crops.

6. Increased tax revenue will mainly grow new government programs dealing with addiction, health and safety. [5]

7. Black market sales of more dangerous drugs will increase because of the gateway nature of Marijuana. [6]

To be clear, most states have legalized "medical" marijuana for the sick. This editorial is about recreational marijuana.

"Recreational" marijuana’s sole purpose is to get high not to treat a medical condition. Also, please do not compare recreational marijuana use with alcohol. People do not necessarily drink to get drunk, whereas recreational pot users’ main goal is to get high.

Anything else I can do for any of you??

Stupid title but it’s the way I feel. Got a letter to appear for jury duty. I have a full calendar as it is with caretaking for both our mothers. Doctors are calling me daily, etc. Plus we must take care of our obligations. There is an option to call the Friday before to excuse yourself. I’ve already sent 2 letters. Please pray I get a pass on this. I’m not kidding there is something every day this month. Yes I know serving jury duty is a privilege, etc. but I am just overwhelmed with all the servitude lately. I know. I sound awful. Please pray of you think about it.

Did the Pope commit heresy?

His comments in Singapore:

All religions are paths to reach God. They are — to make a comparison — like different languages, different dialects, to get there. But God is God for all If you start to fight saying 'my religion is more important than yours, mine is true and yours isn't', where will this lead us? There is only one God, and each of us has a language to arrive at God. Some are Sikh, Muslim, Hindu, Christians; they are different ways to God.
Which is in direct contradiction of the Lord's own words in John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

If no - why?

If yes - what should be done? Should he be censured or removed?

What if tomorrow never comes....?

When we think about life, we often focus on what we've done, make plans, and organize our days ahead. However, the Word of God reminds us: “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring” (Proverbs 27:1).

Recently, a catastrophic typhoon struck, claiming the lives of hundreds. As we follow the news, we are left to ponder—what if tomorrow isn’t guaranteed? Just this week, a sudden muddy-flood engulfed a village, trapping many in its muddy waters, never to rise again. Had they known tomorrow was uncertain, how might they have lived? And if we are still blessed to see another sunrise, how will we live?

I once read a quote that said, "Live like tomorrow never comes." It’s meant to encourage persistence and keep on trying, but as Christians, we have a different calling: live each day as though tomorrow may never come, devoting our lives entirely to the Lord. For those who haven’t secured their eternity, today is the time to do so.

At times, life’s hardships may make us feel like giving up, thinking that an end to life will bring peace. But that’s the perspective of the world. They don’t realize that eternity without Christ brings far greater suffering. God created humans uniquely, giving us a body, mind, and—most importantly—a soul, which He deeply values. While animals may sense danger, only humans understand the weight of sin and the need for salvation.

When we look at the world, we see political corruption and deception. Leaders use cunning tactics to gain power and bring others down. Here in Myanmar, we’ve lived under military coups since our independence in 1947. Protest leaders are arrested, tortured, and silenced while deceitful actions continue to mislead the people. Despite the cruelty, many forget the past, and these injustices persist.

Even in powerful nations like the United States, the same struggle is evident today. The other party wants to take down the opponent and they want to control no matter trouble they bring into the country or how people suffer. This kind of cunning behavior is sinful, but nobody can do anything. I feel as ministers of the Lord, we should sometimes step back from the media. Because it brings many negativities. However, we also must stay informed because the enemy is working harder and wisely than ever to deceive as many as possible in these end times.

It’s vital that we not only teach from the Bible but also relate the message to what we see happening in the world, related to their personal. Personal testimonies are powerful tools for leading others to Christ. In some areas of Burma, people have no access to the internet, books, or even basic communication or transportation. Christianity has been entered for years, yet many lives remain unchanged. Many are Christian in name only—baptized at 12 because it’s mandatory, but they do not attend church, read the Bible, or pray. They work hard all week, and on Sunday, they rest—not to worship, but to shift from one form of labor to another. The sermons they hear offer no connection to their lives, and the pastor preached the men of the Bible every week. People consider no at all good sermon. There is no outside informative or a good testimony that related their life difficulties.

The lack of resources—such as literature, Sunday school classes, and Bible studies—are the cause and it burdens my heart. All I can do is pray for them. As our ministry grows, we hope to bring some transformation to these areas.

In the end time, the world is filled with evil and deceit, as Satan seeks to take as many souls with him as he can. How are we responding to this gift of life and the soul that God has entrusted to us? Ending our earthly trials does not mean an end to all trials—eternity awaits. There are countless people who don’t know if they will have a tomorrow, like here in Burma. What if they knew the truth?

What if you still know tomorrow is sure, no matter what burden you might carry?

Life’s trials, difficulties, and burdens affect all of us, no matter our race or background. We all face struggles, but if you are blessed to see another morning, remember to say, “Thank you, Lord.” Walk with Him, and bring your burdens to Him, for He promises to lighten them (Matthew 11:28-30).

Our country is suffering from bombing of military army airstrike, natural disasters, unsafety living conditions, fear, too much expensive (hyperinflation) and we don’t have work. We don’t know what to do. If we get sick, we don’t have the money at all to go to hospital or purchase a medicine. We read the news of people’s dying every day, death surrounds us, sometimes just outside our door. Recently a school was bombed by airstrike, an escape teacher told the media in tear, we prepared for the situation for the whole time. We heard the sound of a fighter jet, but we don’t have time to run. I have lost all my students.

If you feel you are in great trial and lost way, but still have a chance for tomorrow that your life can still be transformed, please be grateful!

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26).

Proneness to Error.

I'm not really sure how to articulate this exactly.

What I do know is that we are all, both individually and as part of a church or congregation or tradition, prone to error.

Without listing examples, do you guys see this as well? What do you suppose is the solution?

Biases seem to weave their way into our minds, individually first. Then, for whatever reason, these bad ideas spread. Look no further than the last 20 years or so and how much our society in the US and the West has changed in large part due to the internet (among other causes). But the current insanity of the politically liberal is somewhat an outgrowth to overextension to perversion of Christian principles. What started with "love your neighbor" has turned into "If you don't use my pronouns, you are a bigot."

Further, we see the same sort of errors all throughout Church history. What originally started as a question ends in dogmatism forever unable to get back to the original truth that at one time existed. Just look at how the Marian Dogmas developed, or the contagion of Dispensationalism, or that worship on Sunday is the mark of the beast. And on it goes.

What seems to happen is that it starts out with an innocent enough idea. It may even be revolutionary. It might be new for the time. Then slowly, it turns itself into a tradition that people will fight tooth and claw to defend their "Biblical" view.

That's the problem. What do you suppose is the solution?

Pray for those who struggle with addictions

Hello folks. In this modern world, it seems that a lot of folks have addictions, ranging from alcohol, to lust, and to other vices. I have been watching police videos where suspects are arrested, and most suspects are alcoholics who struggle with lifelong addictions, or for months or years on end. Pray for these alcoholics, and for folks who struggle with addictions in general. By the grace of God, I do not use drugs or even like alcohol, but I do struggle with my own problems as well, but not as severe.

Not So Hypothetical Hypothetical.

What do you think when you hear that a pastor does not vote?

I am not talking about the extreme of telling his congregation who to vote for. I am not even talking about the pastor talking about faith and politics or cultural issues.

I am saying that my pastor hates politics and probably does not even vote. I have some really bad feelings about it. Yes, politicians are corrupt. Yes, no politician is perfect or represents Christ.

But to not even vote? Not to mention, along with this, that he never really brings up cultural issues to the pulpit. I guess he thinks that he is there to preach the Gospel and that is all.

Again, I have very mixed feelings about this. I like him as a person. I think he preaches well sometimes. He just is missing some things I don't think a pastor should be missing.

Harris campaign social media account has repeatedly deceived with misleading edits and captions

Per CNN:

The Harris campaign deploys @KamalaHQ as a kind of irreverent attack dog, using jocular posts to draw attention to controversial, incorrect, or dubious comments by Trump and his allies. But the account, which the Harris campaign calls its “official rapid response page,” has itself made inaccurate comments on multiple occasions.

Never Give Up

"..on the one you love" Morally, it's right not to. Even if it all merely was just a message and nothing more than that. Even if it was never to be reciprocated, get on all fours, pining over a love you'll never have in return because they love nothing more than to have your jaw to the floor, crawling. Because when you do decide to give up, that's when the cry wolf to the masses happens.

Devious, isn't it

Pathological deceivers

They'll always have a mirror for you, disregarding and neglecting their faults, their deceptions. Complete jezebel who think she can do no wrong, ruining those she can't sink her jezebel claws into. As if she won't have to answer to anyone for what she's done and continues to do bts. The fact that a jezebel spirit is winning over many by leaving out her own sneaky maneuvers she's made in the past is so disgusting and irks me. Typical jezebel- Dishonest about everything. Last thing Christians needs is a jezebel that leaves out her own faults- Insults towards another, orchestrating theft, catfishing/scamming for money, cursing spell on others'.

Jezebel spirit don't have it in them to be authentic. If she don't get her way, she'll bitter out by ruining your image.

Downright dishonest.

Test:

  1. Prioritize commitment by carefully considering the consequences of making a promise before doing so;
  2. Follow through on commitments promptly and consistently to demonstrate integrity;
  3. Seek accountability from others in keeping our promises, whether friends or spiritual mentors;
  4. Pray for strength and wisdom in fulfilling our commitments. By staying focused on God's unchanging nature and character, we can better understand the importance of honoring our own promises as a reflection of His faithfulness.

Thoughts on God's sovereignty, omniscience and the laws of physics.

Does mankind have free will? Does this impact God's sovereignty? Does the physical laws we find in the universe give any insight into this? I'd like to explore this here.

A child is struck and killed by a car. Was this in accordance with God's will?

The car struck her because the driver was drunk
The driver was drunk because he had become a slave to alcohol
He was a slave because his parents were not able to teach him avoid the trap of an addicting substance
His parents didn't do a great job because of actions of their parents
A chain of cause and effect can go all the way back to Adam and Eve.
Adam and Eve failed when the were tempted by the devil through the serpent, and Satan and cronies have been adding misery all along the way.
Lucifer turned into the evil devil because God made the universe such that rebellion was possible
So all this is a result of the way God made the universe.

So was the child's death in accordance with God's will?

Does God control the Universe?

One of my friends who follows a Reformed faith which often emphasizes the sovereignty of God, asked me once, "Do you think there is any part of the universe, any atom or any minute element, that is not under the control of God?" I have thought about this questions often. The implication is that if all the parts of the universe ARE under God's control, then they must be doing exactly what He wants them to be doing.
  • What does it mean to be under the control of God? Is God actively thinking about every atom and choosing a unique and individualized path for it? Or is God massively parallel (to use a computer concept), and doing all the things all at once? Did He decide how things would work (i.e. establish physical laws), and then consistently stick to those principles? If those physical laws are used to kill someone with an exploding bomb, does that mean that God "did it?"

  • If God wanted to, could He set up a universe that contains randomness? Classical physics from Isaac Newton envisioned a world comprised of atoms all zooming around with individual speeds, masses and directions. And if one could just know all the little parts, then once could predict how everything would play out, like a gigantic clockwork. Nothing can vary, and the entire future is already determined by the current state of the all the atoms. But with careful study of God's universe, we have actually found that there appears to be built in randomness at the level of the quantum. (More about this here.) If God did not want everything to be boringly predictive and instead created aspects of the laws of physics that are random and NOT predictable, would that mean that God is not in control? I would argue NO. As a computer programmer, I can create a tiny artificial world inside a computer. Think about a computer game that appears 3D with characters running around inside it. I can make that world operate by any rules I want, and if I choose to make some elements random and surprising even to me, I would argue that the computerized world is still under my control.

  • Can there be a conflict exist in God's universe between His ultimate will (that all be in harmony), and His practical individualized will (e.g. striking the priest Uzzah dead for touching the ark to teach His people proper respect)? In my example of the exploding bomb above, God might have a will to establish consistency in the universe. So the laws of physics are always the same, all the time. He may also have a will to not have children killed by cruel bombs. So there is a conflict. He could quickly alter the laws of physics such that they work differently such that no child will be killed by a bomb. But how would that play out? Think about Cain and Abel from the book of Genesis. God could see that Cain was angry with his brother Abel and considering murder. God came down and personally tried to reason with Cain and head off the situation. But when Cain didn't cooperate, and instead used the laws of physics to kill Abel, God did NOT send an angel to grab Cain's hands, or suddenly change the neurons in Cain's brain so they thought differently, or alter the physical laws such that his murder failed. Why not when God clearly didn't want Abel killed? Because to do so would violate the His principle of autonomy for His children, taking away their free will and turning them into robots. Instead, God solved the problem a different way, though Christ.

  • When Eve ate the forbidden fruit, was this in accordance with the will of God? Did God predestine this action? Was there a chance that she could have NOT eaten it? My belief is that God chose to create a universe wherein it was possible (though not desired) for one of His creations to turn against Him, and thus Lucifer became the devil or Satan. Was this in accordance to God's will? Yes and no. 'Yes' in that God maintained the rules of the universe that allowed for this horror -- just as the rules would later be used in the murder of Abel. But 'No' in that God did not want such things to come about. But once there is an enemy, it is possible for others such as Eve to be persuaded to join in distrustful rebellion. And that is exactly what happened. It was probably inevitable that this would happen on one of the home worlds of the Sons of God (Job 1:6). But was God happy about all the death that would be caused as a result? No. To repeat the text above Ezekiel 18 “...I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live!"

Conclusions

  • God is Sovereign in that He has all the power. So my Reformed friends are correct in this.
  • God has used His power to establish rules and principles in the universe. Like gravity that never changes.
  • Sometimes His principles can conflict with each other.
  • Just because God enables something to happen doesn't necessarily mean that He is happy about it.
  • So God being "in control" doesn't mean God wants everything to be the way it is.
  • I have never known anyone to be able to explain HOW free will works. But I think it is God's most precious creation, and He went to amazing lengths, even submitting to death on a cross, to show us how to submit our will to God and how it is the only way to be truly free from horrors of a wrong path.

I suspect this will be controversial. What do you all think?

The meaning of "Uriah"

Uriah meant "light of God". More precisely, it meant "Yahweh is my light"

"Ur" = light
"i" = my
"Yah" = Yahweh

His name reflected his noble character. Ironically, he was kept in the dark about David's affair with his wife, and David's evil plot against his life.

Psalm 27:

1 The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?
"Uriel" meant "God is my light".

God judged David for his sins against the righteous Uriah (2 Samuel 12:1-12).

UFO's - Biblical?

The bible doesn't teach that there are UFO's (material flying objects). It also does not teach demons can manifest themselves as material objects.

Some people say ... and even some in government and/or the military say they have seen them and/or actually have physical evidence of such.

As a Christian ...

What do you believe about the existence of UFO's and why?

If you believe UFO's (material spaceships) is true .... how do you reconcile that with scripture?

What do you believe in this regard?

Former Clinton Advisor, who is paid by AdAge and Stagwell, calls for investigation

Mark Penn: ABC News Should Do A Full Investigation Into Debate, "I Don't Know What They Told The Harris Campaign"

Pollster and former Clinton strategist Mark Penn called on ABC News to hire an outside law firm to look into internal communication between the network and the Harris campaign and to "what extent" they planned on "rigging the outcome of this debate."

"I actually think they should do a full internal investigation, hire an outside law firm. I don't know how much of this was planned in advance," Penn told the 'John Solomon Reports' podcast.

"I don't know what they told the Harris campaign," Penn said. "I think the day after, suspicion here is really quite high, and I think a review of all their internal texts and emails really should be done by an independent party to find out to what extent they were planning on, in effect, you know, fact-checking just one candidate and in effect, rigging the outcome of this debate. I think the situation demands nothing less than that."

Abortion, Freedom of Religion, the State, and Voting

I wish to again raise the question of what the relationship of the Church
should be, in regard to The State.

--- I would assert that the Protestant Evangelicals have ignored wrestling with this
VERY DIFFICULT question all through the "electronic screen" generations. And, this
lack of wrestling with American cultural issues, has led to the toleration of all sorts
of semi-Christian congregations, which are not willing to commit to clear doctrinal
descriptions of what orthodox Christianity is.

--- I would assert that North American Catholic Christians, mostly fell into
the category of "cultural Christians". All types of cultural Christians tend to
live a secular life during the week, then turn to the Church and sacraments
on the weekend, to sanitize their lives.

--- I would assert that Protestant Fundamentalists gave up on using the mind
rigorously, in the 1700's (the European Enlightenment), and have from that time
fallen into a fervant anti-intellectualism, that cannot deal with the modern
emergence of scientific disciplines, or the historic professional linguistic
study of the Bible. And, now Fundamentalists are calling themselves "Evangelical",
although Fundamentalists are still imposing their anti-intellectualism on the Bible,
and on the historic evidence of orthodox Christian doctrine.

--- The Orthodox have often taken a position of separation from the "world",
or the attempt to live in a separate Christian culture and lifestyle. Although
these positions toward secular "state" culture may preserve Christian doctrine
and lifestyle, they may not be able to communicate meaningfully with the
dominant atheistic and agnostic lifestyles of most Americans.

AS WITH ALL MORAL-ETHICAL (ME) SYSTEMS, it is not JUST the
ME commands that an ME system holds, but the PRIORITY of these
ME commands that must be worked out. And it is this PRIORITY of
ME commands, that American Christians just cannot seem to get right.
(This is my opinion.)
---------- ----------

I have openly asserted that Biden is not a Catholic Christian,
as he has come out for the "right" of any woman to have abortion on demand.
This has never been compatible with historic Christian doctrine or lifestyle.
Also, I have asserted that Trump is NOT a Protestant Christian, both because
of his profligate lifestyle (including his apathy toward keeping the law), and
his persistent and continual speaking of lies, and undemonstrated conspiracy
theories. (In Christianity, accurately representing our shared reality is an ME
ought, and bearing false witness about our shared reality is called lying, and
is a sin that, if continued, will exclude one from the heavenly kingdom.) Trump
does not represent ANY sort of Christianity.

Now that Kamala Harris represents one political party, she is an example of
a secular American. But, one who values the fair rule of law in America.

I am not trying to take on the role of judge of the living and the dead. But
every Christian MUST make the evaluation that Jesus noted in the Gospels:
"a good tree brings forth good fruit: an evil tree brings forth evil fruit." And
the choice of every person is "Make the tree good, or make it evil". It is not
a sin, for Christians to simply observe that our politicians have a LOT of bad
fruit in their lives, therefore, their tree is evil. This is not being wrongly "judgmental".
---------- ----------

Although some American Christian groups have latched onto the topic of
abortion, as the PRIORITY for Christians to eliminate in America, I would
repeat a few very unpopular considerations.

1. Abortion and infanticide were very common in the Roman Empire, when the
Apostle Paul was "sent as an Apostle to the Gentiles". Yet, Paul's priority in
ME teaching was not focused on abolishing abortion and infanticide in the
Roman Empire, but spreading the good news of how we can be redeemed from
the slavery of sin, by God.

2 Paul is very clear in his letter to the Corinthians, that Christian congregations
have an ME duty to eradicate serious and continuing sin, IN THEIR CONGREGATIONS.
However, Paul has a double standard toward pagans outside of Christian congregations.
Paul is not out to establish some sort of "Christian nationalism", to force pagans to
abide by Judea-Christian morals-ethics. (This is the meaning that the judgment of
God, comes FIRST to his people".)

The consideration by Christians in the first century, was NOT to eradicate
... abortion
... infanticide
... slavery
... racism
... the idolatry of materialism
.... injustice
... the abuse of the helpless and those without personal resources
....

Paul commands the eradication of these abuses IN THE CHRISTIAN
CONGREGATIONS, but it is not Paul's first priority to bring about a
ME transformation in the pagan Roman Empire.

This article brings up the question of whether or not (Catholic) Christians should be
voting according to a single-issue concern (abortion on demand).

This American presidential election brings up other very important issues. We
should consider these, as being on the level of the single-issue of the legality
of abortion on demand...

1 If we vote in a President who suppresses the fair rule of law in America, THEN
we undercut that fair rule of law, and undercut the Constitutional rights that all
American citizens have. These include, "freedom of religion". Is it proper to vote
for a presidential candidate who holds that he is above the law, and threatens
to jail all who engage in behavior that he does not like?

2 Now that the question of the legality of abortion has been given to the
individual states, this question is more in the hands of local state Christians,
more than the question ever could have been affected by the average
Roman citizen in the first century. The average Roman citizen in Paul's
time, had almost no effect on the laws that were published, in the Roman
Empire.

3 Is it more important to protect the fair rule of law in America, than to
vote for some candidate who thinks that the Constitution and the fair rule
of law in America should be swept away, and replaced by his personal
preferences?

4 The groups that support "Christian nationalism" are NOT particularly
historical, orthodox Christian groups. High church theologies and views of
the sacraments, are REJECTED by these Fundamentalist groups! "Christian
nationalism" does not mean that orthodox Christian doctrine would be tolerated.
Many of these Fundamentalist groups do not recognize historical, orthodox
Christianity, as "Christian". They consider many forms of orthodox Christianity,
to be idolatry. They may make all abortion illegal, but they probably will
pass laws that would make many aspects of orthodox Christian dosctrine
and practice, illegal. Note that the European Enlightenment was filled with
states that enacted "Christian nationalism". The PROBLEM was, that
different groups of Christians had different and exclusive ideas of what
"Christian" meant. And, these "Christian" states had no problem with waging
viscious wars against other states, who also thought of themselves as
"Christian states".

"Freedom of religion" in the American foundational documents, was written in
by the Christian founders of America, in order to STOP Christian nationalism
(as seen in the European Enlightenment), NOT to promote it.

5 Note that the forbidding of abortion on demand, is not the same as
being Christian. In historical atheistic governments, it has been very
popular to exhort women to "make babies for the state". The Third Reich
exhorted women to have babies to build up the superior Aryan race.
There is nothing uniquely Christian about making abortion illegal,
when it is cut free of orthodox Christian doctrine.
---------- ----------

The pope is correct to warn American voters to carefully consider whom
to vote for, come November.

Neither political candidate can rightly claim to represent Christians.

But, we do have a clear choice between a man who has lived a profligate life,
has racked up 34 felony convictions, and who would on a whim set aside the
fair rule of law in America for the sake of lies and conspiracy theories.
Christians in America would LOSE MUCH MORE voting for Trump, than
voting for the Harris ticket.

Voting for Trump would practically, lose us our fair rule of law, AND
freedom of religion.

American Christians still can vote for making abortion on demand illegal,
in state elections.

Mass Baptisms

As mass baptisms continue to break out across America, some are naturally asking an important question: Is revival in the air?

Record-Breaking Mass Baptism Event Sees Over 12,000 Baptisms
A mass, inter-denominational baptism event over Pentecost Sunday saw over 12,000 people get baptized in California. The baptisms were part of Baptize California, which involved hundreds of churches across the state including Saddleback Church, with a main event being held at Huntington Beach. There were two days of worship at Huntington, with over 19,000 people coming to the beach to participate. There were spontaneous baptisms on Saturday and planned baptisms on Sunday, totaling more than 6,000 people being baptized at Huntington Beach alone. More than 6,000 other people were baptized across the state at other participating locations.

There have been stories across the nation of mass revivals and baptisms across the nation

Over a Quarter Million Recently Baptized in Papua New Guinea
Over 260,000 people have been baptized in the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s recent “PNG For Christ” evangelistic effort in Papua New Guinea.
Described as a “Discipleship Reaping Campaign,” the mass baptism-focused series was composed of around 2,000 evangelistic programs. They were held from April 26 to May 12 at 162 sites across the Independent State of PNG, population about 10 million.
According to Wilson, the goal of the evangelistic campaign is a final total of 600,000 baptisms. The current official membership of the Papua New Guinea Union Mission is 395,636.

While there is nothing wrong with baptizing en masse, there can be something wrong with them, depending on what's involved.
For example...

In 782 at the Massacre of Verden, Charlemagne reportedly ordered the slaughter of some 4,500 Saxons. He eventually forced the Saxons to convert to Christianity, and declared that anyone who didn’t get baptized or follow other Christian traditions be put to death.

[In 1534, the New Jerusalem movement, under the then leadership of Jan Matthijsz,] in their attempts to gather the holy community together, the revolutionaries soon found it necessary to expel from the city those who would not be baptized (Littell 30).

Some persons are forced, or coerced into being baptized.
Some are baptized spontaneously, without needing to know the lord, or turn their life around.
It isn't even important if the person understands what God requires of them, or what life the person is living.

For example, concerning the afore mentioned, where
Over a Quarter Million Recently Baptized in Papua New Guinea...
Lawson also shared an event he witnessed in PNG.*

My first interviewing trip to PNG was in 1986, when there were already many Adventist politicians, whom I was eager to interview. One of them was from one of the first villages to become Adventist in the Eastern Highlands–Kabiufa. This village was the site of the best-known Adventist secondary school in PNG. It had been the first of our five secondary schools to move its top grade from 10 to 12, which allowed Adventists to have unusually good educations. (The 4 other Adventist high schools at that time topped out at grade 10.) I was staying with the mission president in Goroka, who was then still an Australian.
On Sabbath morning we “looked in” on 3 churches, finishing at Kabiufa Village Church. The politician and I recognized each other from our interview, and we greeted each other after the service ended. The president proudly chaufered me around on Sabbath afternoon, showing me just how significant the Adventist presence was there in the Eastern Highlands. When we returned to the president’s home in time for dinner we were met with shocking news: the politician had had what we would call a heart attack that afternoon and had died. The village elders wanted the mission president to resurrect him next morning. The president became very nervous—how could he refuse such a request given the New Testament, and yet resurrections don’t seem to happen any more. The attempted resurrection next morning was not successful.
But the Mission president returned home with disturbing news: the village elders had met afterwards to determine who had been responsible for killing their leader, and had decided that a neighboring non-Adventist village was to blame. Their actions were somehow associated with their ancestors, who were still part of the Village, and the ancestors of both villages had traditionally been enemies. The Mission President was very upset: he told me that this would lead to armed conflict between the two villages, and it was likely that some would be hurt or killed.

“I am wondering to what extent the PNG Adventist politicians are involved in this,” Lawson added. “When I asked these politicians, how does being an Adventist impact the sort of policies they pursue, they would look at me blankly.” He remembers a political leader finally offering that he was able to “get a piece of land for the church.”
Reflecting on the news, Lawson wondered aloud. “Who are we baptizing? What villages do they come from? Why are they being baptized now?”

This is sad, isn't it, because many millions of people are immersed, into what is known today as Christianity, without really knowing what is involved in being a Christian, and so the result is more of what has been termed "Rice Christian".

The expression rice Christian is a derogatory slur used to describe someone who has formally converted to Christianity for material benefits rather than for religious reasons. Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as "a convert to Christianity who accepts baptism not on the basis of personal conviction but out of a desire for food, medical services, or other benefits"

Similarly, in India, the term rice bag or rice bag convert is used as a derogatory slur targeting Christians, alleging that the target has converted to Christianity for a bag of rice. The term is often used by right-wing Hindutva groups in India.

Concerns have been expressed both by Christian missionaries and by those opposed to Christian missions that people in these situations are only nominally converting to Christianity in order to receive charity or material advancements.

What is really involved in baptism?
Persons may use the book of Acts as a basis for spontaneous baptisms en masse. See Acts 2:38-42; Acts 4:4.
What does the Bible tell us about these baptisms, that can help us avoid making rice Christians?

‘Vatican seems to be working with Beijing’ against Chinese Christians

“…the Vatican seems to be working with Beijing against Christians in China – this is inexplicable,” Gordon Chang told EWTN.

PerMariam) — As the Holy See prepares to renew its secretive deal with Beijing for the third time, a Christian journalist and prominent China analyst has stated there is no “justification” for the Vatican’s actions.

“I’m angry beyond belief. I’m not a Catholic but I’m angry beyond belief because the Chinese violated the 2018 deal as soon as it was inked. The Vatican renewed it despite the repeated pattern of violations. I really don’t know what to say.” These were the opening comments of Gordon Chang when asked recently by EWTN’s Raymond Arroyo about the Vatican’s infamous 2018 deal with Communist China.

vatican/china flag

His assessment of China’s nearly instant violation of the deal is supported by AsiaNews, a site that regularly documents the actions of the Chinese government towards Christians. In November 2018, AsiaNews reported thatnderground Catholics bitterly suspect that the Vatican has abandoned them” – just weeks after the deal was publicized and and signed in September that year.

My grandmothers cancer is getting worse

So I've known for years and years that my grandmother has had multiple kinds of cancer. I've known since high school that she's had Lukemia but I've never known that my grandmother has had colon cancer since I was in high school as well. My mom hasn't really been keeping me up to date on her mom and I just recently lost an uncle to Lung Cancer. It killed him pretty quickly and they couldn't do anything for him. My grandmother is the only grandparent I have left and she has lived for all of these years with her cancer (I graduated high school way back in 2004 so she's had her cancer for well over 20 years) so she should be considered lucky and she is 94 years old but I just don't want to see her go. Her cancers have always been in a low stage and non dangerous and they've only just recently jumped into the danger zone to where she could die within the next few months to next year.

When my dad's parents passed away I was devastated and my wife had to try to pick up the pieces of my shattered life and when my mom's dad passed away I didn't have her to console me but now it's becoming all too real. My sister and I are our grandmother's favorite grandchildren and she barely even remembers who we are anymore. She used to send us cards every year for our birthday and then she started to forget our birthdays which was totally unlike her.

It's becoming time to let go of my last grandparent I am afterall almost 40 years old and I'm lucky to still have a living grandparent at my age but, I just don't want to let go. Please pray for us and pray that my grandmother goes peacefully or optimistically dies from old age and not cancer.

the origin of the universe - a short exercise

The origin of the universe

What is the origin of the universe? Does it have a beginning or has it existed eternally?
Can it be self-existent in the same way God is assumed to be self-existent?
Or if it did have a beginning, what caused it to come into existence?

And regardless if it has existed eternally or not, why does the universe even exist at all?

An eternal universe

While there can never be a conclusive answer to this question, there are strong arguments against the possibility of an eternal universe. Below are three briefly described.

The mathematical argument

If the universe never began to exist, then the number of events will be infinite, but a collection of infinite actual events will lead to a number of mathematical problems.

However, one of the basic principles of the universe is that every aspect of it seems to be ruled by mathematics. This indicates that infinity is a concept which can’t exists in the physical reality.

As mathematician David Hilbert has stated, "The infinite is nowhere to be found in reality. It neither exists in nature nor provides a legitimate basis for rational thought. The role that remains for the infinite to play is solely that of an idea."

The expanding universe argument

Starting in 1913, scientists like Vesto Slipher, Albert Einstein and Edwin Hubble discovered very compelling evidence that the universe was expanding.

In 1965, scientists Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson discovered the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMBR) which has generally been accepted to be the remnants of the first radiation escaping after the so called “Big Bang”.

In 1968 and 1970, Stephen Hawking, George Ellis and Roger Penrose published papers that elaborated on Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity, demonstrating that both time and space must have had a finite beginning in a singularity that corresponded to the origins of matter and energy.

About 11 years of work by cosmologists Arvind Borde, Alan H. Guth, and Alexander Vilenkin culminating in 2003 established that this conclusion holds for all theories of cosmic origin for which there is observational evidence.

If the universe has indeed expanded from a singularity or at least an extremely tiny start, then the universe, at least as it currently exists, has had a finite beginning.

The entropy argument

The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that the entropy of the totality of the universe, as an isolated system, will increase over time, the entropy of the total universe can never decrease.

Although this doesn’t demand a finite beginning because there isn’t really a maximum to the level of order, it does mean that eventually the universe will end to exist as we know it in the so called “heat death".

So with a finite end, the universe can’t be eternal in its nature.

Counter arguments

One may argue against the mathematical argument that in a remote past the properties of the universe were completely different, allowing it to be eternal in its nature without violating the laws of mathematics, or possibly the laws of mathematics were different in that remote past.

But that would only mean that at the very moment the universe begot its current properties it would have had to become finite in its nature, effectively that moment would actually be the beginning of the universe. The presumptive eternal prior state would then be nothing more than the uncaused cause of the current universe.

One may also argue against the expanding universe argument that the proposed singularity was merely the result of a previous universe that collapsed into itself and that the current universe will also collapse into itself in a distant future, this is called the Oscillating Model.

But this concept would only lead to an infinite loop of subsequent universes, which would again be confronted by the mathematical argument.

Finally, one could argue against the entropy argument that the universe could be revived by energy being added to the universe from outside the universe which would decrease the entropy periodically.

But this would need a reality outside of the universe that would logically be the very cause of the universe, thereby rendering the universe not self-existent.

Also, when additional energy would have been added periodically there would have to be a starting point where the initial energy was added to the universe, effectively being the beginning of the universe.

Conclusion

So although there is no conclusive proof of the universe not being eternal, there are very strong arguments that show it has to be finite.

That should be sufficient to discard the option of an external universe, as Alexander Vilenkin once stated: “It is said that an argument is what convinces reasonable men and a proof is what it takes to convince unreasonable men.”

The cause of the universe

So with the option of an eternally existing universe ruled out, what can be stated about a beginning of the universe?

The uncaused cause

Everything in the universe is caused by something, and that cause is always outside and separate from what was being caused. Therefore it follows that the universe itself also needs to have been caused by something else. And that whatever this is, it needs to be outside and separate from it, in other words it needs to be unlimited by the restrains of the physical universe itself.

This means the cause of the universe needs to be:

  • Not limited by time, in other words it needs to be eternal.
  • Not limited by three dimensional space, in other words it needs to be omnipresent.
  • Not limited by matter, in other words it needs to be immaterial or spiritual.
One may argue that whatever is the direct cause of the universe was itself also caused by yet again something else, and that something yet again by something else, and so on. But this would also be confronted by the problems of infinity so ultimately there has to be a truly uncaused cause. So from the perspective of the physical universe it’s not relevant how its cause is exactly constructed because in essence it only maters that ultimately there has to be an uncaused cause, a truly self-existing entity that is the ultimate cause of the universe.

This uncaused cause would have to provide the essentials of the universe.

The basic components of the universe

In essence everything that exists in the universe is an expression of energy in one way or the other, therefore the first essential thing that needs to be provided for the universe to start existing is the unimaginably large amount of energy that is present in the universe.

So the cause of the universe has to be able to provide and incorporate all this energy, and because energy is the result of action, the cause of the universe needs to be able to act independently and unprovoked, therefore it needs to be a sovereign entity.

The laws of physics

The different forms in which the energy of the universe is being expressed is governed by the laws of physics. So if these laws of physics were established at that same moment when the energy was incorporated into the universe, then these laws would force this energy to be expressed in its different forms.

These laws of physics are basically the description of the boundaries to which everything in the universe is submitted to, so the cause of the universe has to have the authority to establish these boundaries, therefore again it needs to be a sovereign entity.

Mind

There is one more aspect that exists in the universe which we know as the “mind". This encompasses everything from thought to emotions and intuition. One may argue that the mind is merely the result of neurological impulses in our brain, but this position leaves many phenomenon unaccounted for, it much more reasonable and logical that the brain is actually interacting with the mind with the mind being an immaterial phenomenon that is not bound by space nor time. It can also be stated that the mind isn’t just another expression of energy.

Because the mind is immaterial and not bound by space nor time, having these same trades it seems to be a direct expression of the very cause of the universe, therefore the cause of the universe needs to be an individual entity.

The identity of the uncaused cause

So the cause of the universe needs to be a self-existing, eternal, sovereign and individual entity.

These are exactly the trades that are attributed to the God of the Bible… Were the authors of the Bible such brilliant minds that they all figured this out, or were they merely describing the reality of the true Creator of the universe?
