Unexpected encounters would still come

While Jecharon, Finarelem, Tenaspir, Alverten, Argon, and Icholed went gathering large segments of wood, some being limbs they cut from trees, as others stayed for preparing temporary shelter for all there, they who gathered wood saw what they did not understand at first, a creature not recognized, across the fast flowing creek from them. It was not one of those huge buglike creatures encountered among the mountains they had passed. It was one with hair all over like animals that they had generally seen, besides snakes and birds. But this one stood up erect, while forelimbs had a resemblance to arms, though they were yet longer proportionate to that creature. And they saw this creature come closer to them, and then suddenly stop, while it was yet a distance away, maybe a couple of hundred feet, and that one looked their way.

Jecharon said, "That is no human as we are! But what stands up and moves that way?

Argon said, "I do not know but maybe it is dangerous. You might keep your sharp blade out to have it ready. Jecharon, and it may help to have it showing, if that one can recognize it as a possible threat as we would."

That creature then turned, and walked off toward the great forest further on. But more than twice as far from them, the creature stopped again to turn and look at them again, and then turned toward that same direction to go on toward the great forest.

Jecharon said, "We must tell the others about this creature that dwells around here."
