Acts 3:16 tells us the basis for all the miracles done by the Apostles. Peter declared clearly how that name unlocks the door for the miraculous: "And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all"
When the man earlier asked of them alms in Acts 3:1-6 they declared to him we have nothing of sort, however, we have something better: the power in the name of Jesus, rise up and walk! The church does a lot of corporate social responsibilities today which amounts to giving "alms". Alms are what the world expected from us, and we should give it according to how much of it we have! However much more than alms we should give them something better: the name of Jesus!
And so Sinach sang, "Call his name, Jesus, Call his name Jesus, Call his name Jesus, oh-oh-oh Jesus". Why? The name is higher than any other name! Acts 4:12 tells us that the name is at the root of our salvation.
‘Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none another name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved’
So while I was just a 21-year-old young man out on the missionary field planting a church in that Island Abonnema, I was "eating" the name of Jesus. Then there was a sudden scream from downstairs, and it was that of an agonizing mother: her small child just gave up the spirit! I got there and met them crying. I took the child and I scream in Jesus name! Nothing more, nothing less; the child open eyes, the parent tears were dried and the church was filled the next Sunday! Hallelujah!
The worlds the Apostles live in were afraid of the name: "But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name’( Acts 4:17)
But today we will call his name to do signs, wonders, and miracles just like the early church (Acts 4:29-30).
