In Patience, Possess Ye Your Souls..'

Think about all of which that technology seeks to achieve with its new offerings and never-ending streams of innovations delivered in every facet of our lives! it's all about making lives better by offering products that get things done either easily or faster. Indeed speed is what defines quality and value in the days we live The ease with which we can get things done and how fast we can achieve this has become the primary yardstick, the parameter for measuring what constitutes value or not. Even in spiritual settings, the 'best churches" are those who get their services done on time, never mind if the church in Acts 2 got empowered because they tarry and linger in his presence and it was for days and not hours! How won't there be a difference between us and them when it comes to experiencing the power of God? We will pursue this thought another day, now let's get back to where we were.

In the days that we live speed is everything! And in a world of speed where is the place for patience? The world that we live in may be defined by speed but the word of God which we live on produces by patience! The writer of the book of Hebrews 10:36 pointed this out:

"36 For ye need patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise"

Earlier in Hebrews 6:12, we have been encouraged to become followers of them who through faith and patience obtained the promise.

"12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises"

Patience is the key to obtaining the promises of God, because the word of God, the one on which all of God's promises are revealed, expressed, and become available to us only produces by patience. In the parable of the Sower Jesus spoke in no unmistakable terms about how the word of God produces in the lives of men. He said this with his mouth:

15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

In other words, the master said, those who stood their ground on the word are those who have proofs to show to the world!

This is why in spiritual warfare patience is the key to undeniable victory, Paul the Apostle advised, "Having done all, stand!". Standing here implies waiting patiently for the word of God to produce! For indeed the word of God is by its very nature described as the word of his patience! John the beloved sheds further light on this in Revelations 3:10 and this particular portion of the scriptures he was conveying the words of Jesus to the seven churches in Philadelphia

"10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth"

In the hour of temptation, there is nothing like a fast revelation, only the patient overcomes the storms of life!

Indeed the last few years have seen the world go through temptations and presently as I write this the RUSSIAN - UKRAINE crisis is still on, we don't know where that will lead. But before that was the covid crisis that came upon the world and in the fear-mongering, alarm, and deception that followed we see many believers and churches not able to "possess their soul in patience" as Jesus advised in Luke 21. Let's take a quick look at this scripture.

"17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake. 18 But there shall not a hair of your head perish. 19 In your patience possess ye your souls.20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh"

Here Jesus was elaborating on the diverse event of the last days and especially of how the church will be persecuted and he advised that in all of these persecutions and tribulations we must possess our souls in patience! When covid persecution came for the world, for the church, how many could possess their soul in patience and wait upon God to hear what he was saying rather than follow the craziness of the world? There was no patience, everyone masked up, and soon after followed the vaccine mandates! It was from the pulpit many were urged to take the kill shot and two years on into the crisis, the deception of Satan can be seen by all. Many have had the worst experience of their lives soon after they took the vaccines, thousands have died and are dying all over the world! Millions are falling into sicknesses they never had before! And the church, the believers and the ministers who could not possess their soul in patience all contributed to this!

Darkness came upon the world, the church was supposed to arise and shine amid that darkness, but rather than shine the church went into hiding, joined the world to buy into the fears and deception of the days, and in so doing lost her soul!

Deception is always rushed, but patience will always reveal the truth!
