Week 21 - Is there hope?

Interesting week. It culminated in a military parade in D.C., and about 2000 rallies to protest Trump and his policies. This is my favorite image from the Philadelphia rally via HuffPost):

Some on the right cannot see why these rallies were needed and may ignore the fact that millions marched yesterday in the rallies. Why the No Kings rallies? From Wikipedia:

The American Federation of Teachers and Communications Workers of America, organized the protests. The No Kings theme was created by the 50501 movement, and derives its name from the perceived authoritarian or tyrannical behavior of Trump and his administration.
The Trump administration has been defying the courts, even SCOTUS. People have been disappeared. US citizens have been deported, or detained because of how they look (hispanic). In sending the Marines to LA, Trump is going against the law, specifically Posse Comitatus. ICE behaves more like kidnappers and criminals in how they snatch people off the street. They are arresting immigrants at immigration centers and courts who are here legally and are obeying the rules regarding their presence in the US. 0 In one case they hit a target car with two of theirs and used pepper spray on the car even though there are children in the car.

Folks on the right carry on about the protests by the left and Dems, as if it is terrible. The Missouri governor called up the National Guard in anticipating violence, but non happened. It is ironic for the right to be so upset by protests by the left or by places like Home Depot which was raided. Hypocrisy. This meme applies:

Trump is learning, though, that his over aggressive deportation plans are backfiring. Yesterday he back off on it:

The Trump administration has abruptly shifted the focus of its mass deportation campaign, telling Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to largely pause raids and arrests in the agricultural industry, hotels and restaurants, according to an internal email and three U.S. officials with knowledge of the guidance.
The decision suggested that the scale of President Trump’s mass deportation campaign — an issue that is at the heart of his presidency — is hurting industries and constituencies that he does not want to lose.
The new guidance comes after protests in Los Angeles against the Trump administration’s immigration raids, including at farms and businesses. It also came as Mr. Trump made a rare concession this week that his crackdown was hurting American farmers and hospitality businesses....
“Effective today, please hold on all work site enforcement investigations/operations on agriculture (including aquaculture and meat packing plants), restaurants and operating hotels,” he wrote in the message.
The email explained that investigations involving “human trafficking, money laundering, drug smuggling into these industries are OK.” But it said — crucially — that agents were not to make arrests of “noncriminal collaterals,” a reference to people who are undocumented but who are not known to have committed any crime.
We have a new term in regards to - "noncriminal collaterals". His deportations of legal and law abiding immigrants is hurting businesses.

Then there are the tariffs. So what nations has he made actual deals with? Maybe one? No 90 deals in 90 days or whatever. The other nations are getting together and making deals with each other.

So there is hope in that Americans are organizing and speaking out against Trump and his policies, and that Trump is walking back some of his immigration stances - though they are probably all Stephen Miller's stances, and he, imho, is a very evil man. Perhaps it is getting through to Trump that his tariffs are failing and he needs to back off.

There is a little bit of hope anyway.
