The Higher Power

Still, on Phillip, the layman with the strange anointing who turned the street of Samaria upside down the Bible says of him: "Philip [the evangelist] went down to the city of Samaria and began proclaiming Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) to them. The crowds gathered and were paying close attention to everything Philip said, as they heard [the message] and saw the [miraculous] signs which he was doing [validating his message]. For unclean spirits (demons), shouting loudly were coming out of many who were possessed; and many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed. So there was great rejoicing in that city." (ACTS 8:5-8 AMP)

Here we see in Samaria that at the display of the awesomeness of God, the devil could have no hiding place. Wherever God's power is displayed the devil must be displaced.

Phillip full of God's power invaded Satan's territory in Samaria and took over the town for Jesus. And mind you he was a layman and not an ordained "apostle" as it were. Seems everyone in the early church carried the anointing bodily! The anointing was not just in talks but indeed - the anointing sets free and brought joy to a hitherto bound city through the hands of a layman called Phillip. But that's not just the story, there is more!

Before the advent of Phillip, there was another "preacher" that was holding sway, they called his name Simon. The Bible says of Simon: "Now there was a man named Simon, who previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great. They all paid [a great deal of] attention to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is what is called the Great Power of God!”(ACTS 8:9-11 AMP) They were paying attention to him because for a long time he had mystified and dazzled them with his magic.

Now, this was until Phillip came! The lesser power may dazzle for a while but when the real power of God steps in the lesser power must bow! Phillip stepped in and immediately when the people sensed a higher power they shifted focus from Simon to Phillip! You know why?

The crowd will always move in the direction of the latest attraction! The superior unction will always command attention!

Even Simon was so amazed at this higher power that he 'closed down his ministry' and seek to receive of Phillip's to start his ministry afresh!(Acts 8:13-19)

‘13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. 14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: 15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. 18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, 19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

Anywhere you invade with the higher power the lesser power must bow. In your office, marketplace, ministry, when you carry the higher power the previous power must bow. This is the destiny of the church!
