The Whole Cow.
I have a flesh self. I have a spirit self. I have a born-again self that is married to the Holy Spirit. And, I have a self that will manifest all the other selves at times. Paul sometimes made statements followed by the remark, “I speak now as a man”. His job is similar to mine, in that he was explaining the transition from one covenant to another; from flesh to spirit…..from death to life. Spiritual things cannot be explained to fleshly minds; carnal, or “man’s mind”. 1 Cor 2:14, “But the natural man recieveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto “him”: neither can “he” know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”.
I am talking to you now as a man. When people say that they are speaking, walking, or whatever “in the spirit”; if they are taking to you about God, or understanding God or the scriptures, then they are not “in the spirit”. If they were, two things would happen. 1) You wouldn’t understand them, and 2) You wouldn’t understand them. Period.
Spirits also only say what is already said, and the Scriptures are what they say, have said, or ever will say. Because of this we have many gross misinterpretations, and misunderstandings in Scripture. Above I said I am four ‘selves’. I am actual only two, since the spirit me is married to God’s Spirit, they are one. The rapture is one such misunderstood passage, and we will discuss it later…”and one will be taken, and one will be left”.
Why do we pray for things, and nothing happens? To figure this out, let’s look at Job. He prayed every morning, as some of you probably do. It’s not the praying often, but how he prayed, and what for. He prayed for his children, and was worried that they may curse God in their heart. He obviously worried about this a lot; he prayed the same prayer every morning. God has a way of keeping you focused on what is important in life.
The world is necessary, but most importantly, temporary. You, however, are not temporary. This was taught to Job by the loss of everything he prayed for. Somehow I don’t think this was the answer Job wanted. Job is a good study for us, and if there ever was a man that was considered by God as righteous by works, it was Job.
This is the problem. Works. Many a debate have been over the usage and terminology of the word “works” in Scripture. What do we actually supposed to do? The answer to this is also the reason our prayers are impotent. It may seem to you that for some reason you just can’t get it the way you want it. There always has to be a seeming downside. I pray for something in the world, and my answer is to denounce the world. Well, the fact is, we live in the world, and in no way does God want us to denounce it, as some may think. He wants us to include Jesus in it. BIG difference.
What is really going on with us, and what I hope to show you is this: What you pray for is not wrong, and not being kept from you. You are praying for a gallon of milk, but God wants to give you the whole cow.
Holy men of old prayed, and shook the ground. The Bible also tells us to be Holy. What is Holy? The use of it in the new testament, as pertaining to us, is the Greek word ‘Kadosh’. It means “set aside”, separate. We are vessels to God. Houses. A place for His Spirit to live. In Gen 2:3, we see that the first use of the same word (kadosh) translated involves a rest from works. We are sanctified, and saved by Grace. The first time the word grace appears in the Bible is Gen 6:8. “and Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord." Noah’s name means “rest”. (from the study of Scriptures series). Hebrews 4: 1-11 should be read here. “Go ahead, I’ll wait…”
Hebrews 4:11, “Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief”. Now read Ephesians 2:4-9. I will wait again. If you truly want to increase your faith, then stop and read it. It’s only about five sentences that can in themselves change your mind about faith. because The last line, Ephesians 2?9, says, “Not of works lest we should boast”, Faith and works, not faith verses works. I want your faith to work.
The whole point of the Gospel is that we are born again, and different. If you did read the above Scripture, you will see that we have been raised with Jesus, and He is “sitting”. We were made to “sit down” with Him in heavenly places, with all things subject unto us. Look at Job again, and see what happens when we don’t rest...
Job 3:25-26, “For the thing that I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet, yet trouble came.”. No rest = trouble. In the previous parts of this series, I told you to think about what you want. If you have taken this to heart (also covered) some of you will still not know. My aim is to teach people how to be effective when you pray. Your faith means everything, and as the Scripture says, “without faith it is impossible to please God”. Look at faith as a muscle that has to be exercised. 2 Cor 5:7, “We walk by faith, not by sight” Why is this verse so important?
Since the beginning, there have been whisperings in the ear about what to think, what to look at, what to focus on. From the first “Who told you that you were naked?” until today we have had someone, or something “telling” us things. He’s the "whispering idiot". The same one that told Job to worry about his life. In order to “build” your faith, you have to “start building”.
Start by not asking for the same thing twice. This is an ongoing exercise. God is looking for an attitude. A mindset. He is waiting for you to get to a point in your life where you say to yourself, “I don’t care what it looks like, I trust You anyway. I don’t care if I ever get what I pray for, I thank you anyway for what I have.” God will not give you what you what if you are not thankful for what you have. You first have to be thankful for the little things. A person that is in a wheelchair, if he wants to get out of it, has to think like this. “God, I want to walk, and I know you can make me walk. Either way, I thank you that I at least have legs, even though they don’t work. I thank you for this chair (some people that can’t walk don’t have them). I thank you for what I do have".
One of the biggest problems is that God sees people without food, or even water to drink, and people with water praying for something. The problem isn’t the prayer, nor is it a bad thing to live in a country that has it all. You were meant to be here, and not there. The problem is that we are not thankful for being here.
Some work for you: This is a Godly work. This is the “work” the Scripture is talking about…
Practice looking around at what you have, and being thankful for it, and most importantly thanking God for it. Also, ask for that “thing” once more with an attitude that it is the last time you will ask. Attitude is something that takes a little time to develop. Remember also to exercise this… Listen “for” the whispering idiot, not “to” him. Learn his lies. When he whispers a worry in your ear, tell him this…”It doesn’t matter what it looks like now, because my God is with me, and I am thankful for that. Because of that, it will not always look like this.”
Learn to rest. This is a practice, and a work that will lead you to the whole cow.
