The Game Boy/Game Boy color Zeldas are awesome. I highly recommend them. If you are opposed to the small screen, I highly recommend the GameBoy Player for GameCube.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening isn't the hardest Zelda game, but it does have many challenging areas and the game is very fun. The story is a bit different from the usual Zelda story and very well done IMO. The overworld and the dungeons are very well designed and the game has a charm to it that it all its own. It also has lots of entertaining bells and whistles that can be found during gameplay.
The Zelda: Orcales games are both very well done. While that two games at once thing was a bit sneaky, both games have a good amount of content on their own and are different enough from each other to both be worth purchase. Both games keep the awesome Zelda gameplay with well designed dungeons and some nice new items like the switch hook (ages) and the magnetic gloves (seasons). The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages is focused more on puzzles and The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Season is focused more on action, but they both have a good balance of puzzles and action. Both have an item for traveling between two different times (ages) or between four seasons (seasons) too, so fans of the light/dark world of LTTP won't be disappointed.
