My wife and I started reading about the weather in Israel and Jordan in January, and boy.....it doesn't sound good at all. Super cold, rain, can get muddy, and in Northern Israel it can snow. Seeing the Dome of the Rock mosque covered in snow looks so bizarre!? Anyway, Jordan gets rain and snow also. I can't imagine busting out $16,000 only to have roads in Jordan shut down to Petra or other sites or have the trip to Jerusalem cut short or ruined by rain or snow.

When we went to Greece in June (!!!) is rained a bit in Greece twice. When we went to Epidaurus, I was so excited to see the Sanctuary of Esclepius. It POURED RAIN that day!!! Anyway, it muffed things up for us. It also rained on us one time in Athens when we were at the Plaka having lunch. Crazy.

It rains a lot in January in Israel and Jordan. I am worried. We're seriously thinking now we're going to back out and try something else.

Anyone here been to that area in January? sigh....:sigh::sigh::sigh:

Strike out all the words of your post except "quality" and you'd be right!

how about the Oscar for worst special effects which make the whole movie look like one video game cutscene?

Yeah, because those teddy bear costumes in Return of the Jedi and those midgets wearing brown robes with sequins for eyes plus Gredo and the gang all looked so convincing and legit! LOL

Did I just hear a clergyman say "crappy!?" LOL.....
Oh well, it's not a fasting period, so we'll let it go.

I thought the FX were fine. My only criticism of the film is Hayden Christenson's acting. He stinks. But since I like the story and everything else, I can overlook it. It's like the old Star Wars. Mark Hamill is an AWFUL actor in every way, but the strength of everything around it obscured it for me. I can push the FX and HC aside if I liked the rest. And honestly the FX weren't that bad really. Most space movies look about the same, and it was 13 years ago. I thought Attack of the Clones had far worse FX.

Go back and watch Lord of the Rings. It can get cartoonish, man. But those 3 films are still an utter joy.

yes, I used crappy. and yes, LOTR did have some silliness, but ROTS had it all over the place. practically every scene looked like a Final Fantasy cutscene.

It did not. You just hated the story so you dial in extra hard to hate the rest. It's ok. Happens to the best of us....even priests! LOL

negative, although I did think the story was terrible. the lack of good special effects is unrelated to the lack of quality of the story.

But back to my original thread and latest updates, I think the Israel thing is likely a no-go. The January weather is a bit X-factor for us. Looking at alternatives now....

Romania?
