My idea for a game isn't very weird or original to be honest, but anyway...
I've been waiting for a game in which you simply explore the universe at your own leisure, without any set goals (...I expect I'll be waiting for a long time.) You'd have beautiful planets with all sorts of animal life on them, and also remote, bleak areas and everything in between. I personally sometimes find blatant "gameplay" bits (including puzzles, bosses, etc.) in adventure games irritating; I'd love an uncompromising, vast game where you could get lost really, really easily, but it wouldn't matter because you'd be exploring. Obviously each planet would be fully interactive, but you wouldn't need to do x, y, or z to progress. There would be night and day cycles, and seasons, and creatures would evolve and change over time.
I've always believed Metroid Prime would have been much better with far less combat and a lot more freedom and exploration.
I know few people would like to play a game with no goals and a vast gameworld, but I'd love it. It'd be perfect escapism.
What do you think?
