  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Your Interpretation of Scripture is NOT The Inerrant Word of God

Nah, they do not have the power...as much as they try. God will stop em dead in their tracks.
Why would I try to destroy the world? I certainly do not benefit from it. In fact, overall, no one actually does in the long run. Unfortunately, some people are painfully short sighted or ignorant, thus leading them to make decisions that contribute towards destruction, but no one is twirling a mustache evilly as they purposely make more waste to dump into fresh water streams, or chop down a tree just because they can. Most people passively contribute to destruction by taking the easy route of doing nothing and not changing their habits, and as far as I can tell, religion has no relationship with this behavior.

Additionally, we have destroyed a lot of the environment. There is an island of garbage the size of Texas thanks to us, desertification continues to spread, species go extinct far faster than is normal, we have to be careful how much fish we eat because we contaminated them with mercury from industrial waste... If a deity was going to stop us from destroying the environment, by this point, it might be too little too late to just stop us. That deity would have to actively help undo the damage we have already inflicted.

I think some are actually. There is evil in the world. The final world ruler prophesied in the bible is called as one of his names...'the foolish shepherd'. Now if I have the spirit of that correct, I think it means something like a shepherd leader that robs and kills his own flock. Maybe like false flag operations, or terrorist acts blamed on others on his own people, etc etc. That is destroying. The Destroyer is about to come out of the thicket.

No problem, Jesus will renew the earth when He takes over.

He knows that...no worries at all. He created the whole universe by speaking. This little ol world is no problem at all.

-_- shepherds do kill their sheep; they raise them until they are to be slaughtered. Even sheep for wool are killed for meat eventually.

Actually, doesn't revelation say that after a bit, the Earth is destroyed in a fiery, dramatic way? If I recall, it is some time of horror where the antichrist rules, something like 1000 years ruled by Jesus, and then the end, but I might be off in regards to numerical amounts, I didn't exactly memorize this stuff.

Honestly, given the number of potentially habitable planets in the universe, I question why a deity would bother to care specifically about this one.

1. The Rapture occurs.
2. Seven years of tribulation, ending in Armageddon.
3. Jesus returns, confines Satan to a bottomless pit, and reigns for 1000 years.
4. Satan is let loose, and he goes out and conscripts a mighty army for one last attempt at destroying us.
5. Jesus defeats him and confines Him to a lake of fire forever.
6. Great White Throne Judgment of the lost.
7. Heaven and Earth are burned up and a New Heaven and New Earth are made.

Is it a meaningless story of destruction by a God who we are told loves us? a story from the minds of people who lived with death every day and saw no end to it? or is it a Christian God who is an incompetent God unable to sort things out?
No just a few imaginative tales told over campfires to frighten the children.

How do parents stop children from doing things that might harm them? they put fear into their heads.

Just how long have people been waiting for this 'Rapture'? why do the promises only come true when people are dead?
everyone can look back and see the way the church and the religions worked over the centuries yet they still get a pass,
the need for some people to believe must be very very strong indeed.

Why can't you say NO ... then tell them why?

Who says you can't?
And before you reply, just saying 'no' to a child when they've done something wrong won't really stop them.

Meanwhile ... back to eschatology?
