Why would I try to destroy the world? I certainly do not benefit from it. In fact, overall, no one actually does in the long run. Unfortunately, some people are painfully short sighted or ignorant, thus leading them to make decisions that contribute towards destruction, but no one is twirling a mustache evilly as they purposely make more waste to dump into fresh water streams, or chop down a tree just because they can. Most people passively contribute to destruction by taking the easy route of doing nothing and not changing their habits, and as far as I can tell, religion has no relationship with this behavior.Nah, they do not have the power...as much as they try. God will stop em dead in their tracks.
Additionally, we have destroyed a lot of the environment. There is an island of garbage the size of Texas thanks to us, desertification continues to spread, species go extinct far faster than is normal, we have to be careful how much fish we eat because we contaminated them with mercury from industrial waste... If a deity was going to stop us from destroying the environment, by this point, it might be too little too late to just stop us. That deity would have to actively help undo the damage we have already inflicted.
