In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Since my husband and I have been married, with few brief exceptions, our bed has consisted of a mattress on top of a boxspring on top of a metal frame. Booooooooooring.

I'm seriously considering talking him into buying a BED. A real bed, with a headboard and maybe a footboard (or maybe not since the dog wouldn't like jumping onto the bed from the side) and some kind of nice looking wood frame.

But I don't know what I want. Furniture stores don't show a lot of samples on their websites and I'd like to have a general idea of what I'm looking for before I go running all over town being molested by salesmen.

So.

What kind of bed do you have?
Do you love it?
Do you have a picture of it, or one similar, that you'd be willing to post?

Help me out!

I'm sure you can find something decent at the local motel that takes quarters... :p
seriously though, if it was up to me, I would have something much simpler, but what we have looks real nice to be honest. Worth the investment, and it really brings the room together.

We don't have a lot of room on the sides of our bed, so I was thinking about something like this.

that bed is lovely.

i have been thingin the same things. my hubby likes to throw me on to the bed (in a state of passion) we have been married for 7 weeks and we have broken the bed. unfortunatly it is at my side so i have a very sore back today becasue the bed is not fully supporting me. i thopught ikea beds looked nice. and ikea is always good value. we have quite a big bed room we could easly have a king size (i wish we did) i would love to get a four poster bed. all the ones ive been look at are like ^ one i just havent found one that i like (that ones the nicest ive seen) but really if brake a bed in 7 weeks... we really should just sleep on the mattres on the floor lol..

That's what our bed looks like. Big headboard, very little down by the feet.

Are you interested in those Sleep Number beds? The one where you can program it's firmness/softness for each side of the bed according to the respective comfort levels of you and Mr. Snooch?

we started out with the box spring & mattress resting on a metal frame, which was attached to the headboard. But that didn't offer enough support for my husband's back. Also, we're too, um, enthusiastic about certain things, so the frame was creaking dangerously. :sorry:

For now we have the box spring sitting directly on the floor, and the head board is in the basement. We threw out the metal frame. One of these days we'll get a decent bed. One of these days.

I like four-poster beds too, but I'd probably want a canopy if we went that route, and I know my husband will never agree to that. ^_^

We do have a king size bed, which is part of why we don't have a lot of room on the sides. With our nightstands and a bookcase, and everyone here designing bedrooms for those ridiculous California Kings, we only have a couple of inches on either side to spare. So the headboard in the picture I posted is probably about as wide as we'd be able to go.

I get really tempted by those big headboards with the cupboards and shelves that you see sometimes, but not only would they be too big for our wall but I also sometimes wonder if they are tacky and I just don't realize it. :sorry:

We have one of those, actually. Right now, it's boxed up because we bought a new bed when we got to California. I like the sleep number bed better than what we're using now, and if we decide to set it up again we'd need to take that into consideration with whatever set-up we end up getting.

Does that hurt your back? When we were "between beds" for a while, we had a boxspring and mattress on the floor, and I felt like I was laying on bricks. I've been told it shouldn't matter, so maybe it was psychosomatic.

we need a new headboard for our bed. We don't have a foot board, which is ok for us but I do like a headboard. The one we have has panels and the panel, on MY side no less, keeps coming out. I more around so much in my sleep that I'm actually afraid I'm going to get my head stuck in it!:o I would love something like you showed, snoochface.

Here's another one: That's a "platform" bed, which sounds like a perfect solution for you guys because of the dogs.

Crate&Barrel has some other styles of platform beds to look at.

Something like this would be nice too. It has the posters (for the "elegance") but the low footboard that your dogs could get over. I like to sit on the end of my bed, so a lower footboard would be essential, if we were to get one at all. Have fun with the shopping.

I LOVE the one in that picture! I really like that it's raised off the floor a bit, so we can tuck our shoes underneath and get the vacuum under it.

I like the look of the four-poster bed too, especially the wood grain. I like that kind of weathered-wood look, and I don't think I realized that until just now.

Unfortunately, knowing my dog as I do, she would be afraid of the posters and would never get on the bed. :D

We have a really nice mattress and box spring on a metal frame. Yeah, it's boring, but my husband is very tall (6'3") and having a headboard or footboard on the bed crunches his body up. LOL As it is, his feet dangle off the end of the bed. I keep making jokes that one of these days I'm going to paint a "headboard" on the wall behind our bed to make it look less blah.

My brother-in-law did something neat in a set-up like yours. He put matching bookcases on both sides of the bed, and attached a shelf going across the top of them (so across the top of the bed, too) in a matching piece of wood. Then under that shelf, above where your heads would be, he hung a couple of etched mirrors and a smaller shelf, and painted the wall in the middle.

It gave the impression of a headboard-like design, and it was functional with the shelves, but without taking away any sleeping space like a real headboard would do. I thought it was kind of a neat idea.

Not at all. In fact, I wish the mattress were firmer. We both had a reduction in back pain when we put the bed on the floor. I think when we do buy a bed, it will have to be a platform for that reason. I think we both like sleeping on bricks! :D

We have a mattress with a pillow top and it's WONDERFUL!!! Lots of room for me, mr burger and the kitties.

I think I might actually have a picture in our photobucket account. Not an actual picture, just from the website. We got ours at Dania.

Oh snooch--well it's not the world's greatest photo but here's a cutie on the phone (probably talking about the joys of NOT watching Lost):
bed-1.jpg

Behind my head see our headboard? We did a really weird thing but we LOVE it! WE took a cool, wooden California King waterbed headboard and pedestal and put in a pillow top California King mattress. It's SUPER comfortable and soft, and plenty of room for storage and stuff all over, and plenty of room for ... ummm ... playfulness (cough). Plus, we always have people in our room and people laying on our bed...so this makes our room and our bed in particular sort of a comfy meeting place in our house.

I love this, you guys are giving me some great ideas! So far, I've liked every picture in here, and they're all the style I had in mind.

I love that! I really like the dark wood, too - what is it?

When we moved from Texas, we finally got rid of the wrought iron canopy bed that we had been using. You guys all would have DIED if you had seen it. I had it festooned with ivy and Christmas lights. It was like fairy bower. Romantic but embarassing.

Oh wow. That sounds like a dream. I would love it, I'd feel like I was living in Lothlorien. Do you have a picture of it? It sounds amazing!

Awwww you ARE a cutie! That's the kind of headboard I was talking about, with cabinets and shelves and stuff. I thought they were what waterbeds came with but I couldn't remember. I don't think we have the room for it, but I think we could make good use of the space.

Thanks for all the ideas, guys! I'm showing my husband and he's rolling his eyes at me, but I KNOW I'm wearing him down. ^_^
