I am one of the spokespersons for Messianic Judaism in China. In 2011, Beth Tikkun (Place of Restoration) Messianic Congregation in Ohio United States established a branch in Beijing, China. The Preacher (David Deikun)'s father established a branch in Russia. I personally have four cultural backgrounds: East Asia&Middle East&Israel&West.

I’ve been a Messianic Christian for about 30 years, and I find that the definition varies from person to person. When I visited America several years ago, I was a little unhappy with the Messianic church I visited, but they were devout and sincere Christians as far as I could tell. Some seem to take imitation as the greatest form of praise a little far. The common denominator among Messianic Christians that I have known is a focus on Yeshua being the Messiah, giving as much equal weight to the Old and New Testaments as possible, and support for Israel. Practically, this amounts to keeping the Sabbath, not eating certain foods, and celebrating or observing holy days, and study of the Old Testament. None of these things are done correctly according to Jewish tradition, but they are a means to walk closer to the will of God. They are not Jews bound to the Law, but the Law is a good place to start when learning the will of God. I keep the Sabbath and don’t eat pork or shellfish, because the Law is good. I don’t do it to be “Jewish.” I am saved by grace through the sacrifice of Yeshua and keep the Law by choice. One needs to find a name for such people, and Messianic Christian seems to work. There may be several congregations here in Poland, but I only know of one, and that is a mix of Messianic Jews and Christians and Protestants of various denominations that come together to worship and share teachings. Their statement of faith is merely salvation through faith in the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ/Messiah. So they wouldn’t actually call themselves a Messianic congregation. However, there are many individuals scattered about unaffiliated to any church that keep the Sabbath and study the Torah. If you don’t call yourself something, people assume you are Jewish or a Seventh Day Adventists, which would be incorrect.

David Deikun's paternal lineage is Jewish and his maternal lineage is Western. He was unaware of his Jewish ancestry and attended a Western style church. Later, he learned that his father's mother was a hidden German Jew, so he joined Messianic Judaism. He did make many concessions to the Western Christian tradition, but still dislikes to attend general Christian and Jewish gatherings. He said that Jew is like husband and Gentile is like wife. Just like his father is Jewish and his mother is Western. As an American citizen, he also attempted to immigrate to Israel, but was rejected due to Messianic and matrilineal reasons.

That is very interesting, and David seems like a fine person. His grandmother lived in hard times, and much of what happened was never talked about.
