I just found out some stuff about my characters that I never noticed before.

Jonas blood isn't red.
Sennal's a kleptomaniac.
Auhsed doesn't like war (which should have been obvious since he's the opposite of Cecilia).
Lehen actually wears that scarf for a reason.
Naxis has black eyes.

And several characters aren't even the species I thought they were!

Does anyone else ever have this happen to them?

All the time. Over the past few days I've discovered the following:

Johann is a benevolent ruler.
Mirele is capricious and rebellious, but somewhat vulnerable.
Johann never liked Dimitri.
Dimitri has more power than anyone except for maybe Johann realizes.
Alek's family didn't flee the country when Johann came to power.

But there's also my newest collection of recent discoveries.

Kayhin is a good leader
Golodin's just a little bit evil
Tariel's got a totally messed up sense of morals (actually I've known that for awhile...but she just keeps proving it)
Rautt not only commands the army, he's the Queen's older brother.
Kayhin somehow got ahold of an airship and knows how to fly it (or at least find the people who do)

It's amazing how much you find out about your characters....and your story in general....I thought the plot was going to take one direction, but it went in a completely different one.

I know....I love it. I'm not sure what's gonna happen though. My characters got ahold of technology that's not supposed to exist in this world. And I thought it was gonna be a nice little traditional fantasy novel.

I love it when my characters surprise me. A few months back, I thought that this novel would be set in a world like feudal Japan, but I found out a couple weeks ago that this world is more like 1930s Europe.
