Not necessarily but you threw out the printers of your Bible as being an authority on what is and is not a parable. When what most likely happened is they printed a list of parables that are considered to be parables by Biblical scholars.
You got it.

Merry Christmas

A parable is not based on reality, it's point is to convey a message
What's not reality about a mustard seed..what's not reality about a sower...I think you misunderstand. When Jesus gave a parable, He used actual objects for a lesson. He never made up fantasy, like hobbits or aliens etc...
Or do you think a mustard seed is really like heaven?
You misquote the scriptures. It says "kingdom of heaven". This is not a referrence to a celestial city. This is a referrence to Christendom. For instance, in Mat. 13: 24-30, the kingdom of heaven is likened to a field where wheat and tares are grown together. This is a parable about true and false converts in Christendom. At the end, the false converts will be cast into the fire.
No they are not, they are wildly exaggerated stories to convey a message. A plank in the eye sounds wildly exaggerated to me. Or do you think that was real also?
This is just an object lesson, and was never meant to be a story w/ some hidden spiritual meaning. Everyone understood it, there's nothing parabolic about it.
And yes..it could happen, I know several one-eyed people because of freak accidents with large pieces of wood.
Again, Jesus used a wildly exaggerated story to convey a message about justice on the day of judgement.
And according to the poster above you, it's a myth, and a fable, which Jesus never would have condoned using. Jesus would not contradict scripture. I'm assuming you agree w/ him since you referrence his post.
How will that change to story telling of this parable
You say Jesus uses "wildly exaggerated stories". If Jesus quotes a specific name, then this wildly exaggerated story would actually be a wildly exaggerated lie. Either this happened to a man named Lazarus or Jesus is a liar.
Was Jesus lying about the mustard seed being like heaven? Remember the plank... was he lying?
Nope. (please make this correction when quoting scripture: "kingdom of heaven")
Also you might like to know that the name Lazarus was common in those days... therefore many men were named Lazarus.
Many men were named Jesus...many men were named John, etc..
Quote:
And who's interpretation is this? Did Jesus specifically state this?
Obviously not yours.
Correct. I try not to take verses out of context to try to explain my own interpretation.
Quote:
Did Paul specifically state this? No on both accounts. Galatians is not and was not written to explain Luke 16. Paul was correcting the galatian believers trying to put Christians back under the law. It would do you good to read the WHOLE chapter.
Getting personal now. Why? Did I upset you in some way?
Sorry you took that personal. The point is take verses in context context context. read the whole chapter to see what is being said not just pick and choose and use it to fit a doctrine.
Quote:
let me ask again...where is the heart of the earth?
The earth does not have a heart.
Jesus does not lie.
heart: Gr. kardia: c) of the middle or central or inmost part of anything, even though inanimate (from www.blueletterbible.org concordance on Mat. 12:40)
Where is the innermost part of the earth?
Quote:
Where is Jesus now?
Your point?
The thread is about people in heaven right? So this gets back to the original thread. Is Jesus at the right hand of the Father?
Another unanswered question: who are the 24 elders in Revelation?

John 8:56 is a good one too...it says Abraham saw His day, how does a dead Abraham see Jesus' day?

I fail to see what this has to do with the parable.
First, John 8:58 is a good way to find out just what people think about the deity of Christ.
Secondly, John 8:56 tells of a man who is dead (Abraham) and he "saw". Can dead people see? Lazarus and the rich man could see, feel, had memory, had desires...pretty interesting.
