  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hmm...not sure if this is 'conservative' enough or not ;) :p but...

Who all of you is into knitting, crocheting or any other type of yarn craft? How long have you been at it? What do you like to make? Are you obsessed? And if so do you have any pictures to show off? :D

Yay! A craft thread by GT!

I like to paint with watercolors though it's been awhile since I took my hand to it again. It's just so fun to be creative! Sometimes what your creating flops like a frog on a lilypad but there are the times when what you've created takes on a life of it's own almost. Knowwhatimean? :D It's fun!

My mom has a serious addiction to Hobby Lobby. :o ^_^ She's like a kid in a candy store when you even SAY the name...Hobby Lobby. :p It's a blast to go shopping with her there cause she's just so excited about everything.

My neighbor taught me how to crochet a few weeks ago. She tried to teach me how to knit, but I was not very good with it. I’m currently trying to make a scarf.
For beginning knitters I recommend that they knit a bunch of washcloths with cotton. It is a great way to practice and the occassional dropped stitch doesn't make much difference.

The absolute best yarn to use for WashCloth Projects is the Peaches and Creme yarns. They are a dream to work with.

I knit. I love it. Doing a little Crochet every now and then too.
What sorts of projects have you done? What is your favourite one?

Loom Knitter here.

Lisa
Is it easy? What types of things can you make with it?

Hey Trekki! :D Yup...can't live without something crafty to do! ;) I've never heard of Hobby Lobby, but that's probably because we don't have them up here. I think I'll check them out online.

Or you can just download the coupons on their site too :p

I've done some yarn things but stick more to paper crafts and altered items lately.
What sort of paper crafts do you do? I do card making and I have done scrapbooking in the past, but well...it's not my favourite thing to do. I'd rather be knitting or crocheting.

Good for you. :) What is your first project?

That's a smart idea. I just finished knitting a dishcloth. I tend to make them in between other projects or as a break from another bigger project. Just so I can see the end result quickly. ^_^

Wow! Look how many of us are crafty! That's so cool

I crochet, paint and make things out of sellotape and glitter :D

Yah, what's Hobby Lobby? That sounds wonderful. If they have a catalogue... Laminated Book of Dreams.

Looms are somewhat limited in that you cannot do too many fancy stitches. You can purl, and make cables easily enough. It is actually best for making flat pieces and hats. The problem with flat pieces is you either have to use a very heavy weight yarn or you must purl the whole thing. Otherwise, it begins to curl on the ends and sides.

I have made scarves, hats, placemats, and attempted a purse. The purse would have been fine except for the stupid yarn going bad in the middle of the skeins.

The advantage of the loom is that the common wrist and elbow injuries are avoided. Many folks who have carpal tunnel from knitting and crotcheting are switching to looms.

There are many variations of looms. There are some that are the size of a room instead of handheld. These are made for rugs and large pieces knitted all at once.

Wow...size of a room, eh? That would make for some serious projects. I love hats. Do you have any pictures of the ones you've made? I can see how using the loom would be easier on your wrists. I find that when I work too long (which is most of the time :sorry: ) my wrists protest greatly. Although I think it may be a combination of my work, my hobbies and the computer. :o

Do you have pictures of things you've painted?
No... but I have one of them hanging in the kitchen, so I can take a photo and upload it  Will do that as soon as I've sent this.

Aww, yay! I was hoping this thread would be all picture-y. Prospective projects, lovely fabrics, amazing yarns, hand-made cards, e-scrapbooking links (got an amazing one, if anyone does e-scrapping)... loveliest thread ever! Thank you so much for starting it, sweetie :hug:

I have a question: does anyone do quilting?

I will try to think about taking some pictures this weekend. I have bags of stuff right now because I am making Christmas projects.

I'm not sure how big this will be... It's on a box canvas. I prefer them, for some reason.

I can only paint in oils. Would LOVE to be able to paint in watercolour because it's so much dreamier, but if you make a wrong stroke, it can throw the whole thing off.

Mama, how do you know when to, like, stop? How do you fight the temptation to just add a little more here and there?

I don't quilt...but I have a sewing machine right close by. ;) A friend of mine does wonderful quilting. I'd like to try some one day. :)

That's fabulous Green Anna!
Yay...our first picture and a beautiful one at that. :)
I know nothing about painting. About the only painting I can do is walls. ;) But I sure admire those who can.

Well...I must be off to work. Have a great day ladies. I look forward to seeing many more pics in the days and weeks to come.
