  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Don't hold on to that dream. It's hitting (same with all the other consoles) its peak. There will be improvments in graphics, but nothing major from now on (wich is the reason, me thinks, they want the Xenon on the shelves asap).

I wouldn't expect to see games look much better than Riddick (although Splinter Cell 3 has a good chance because it is such a slow paced game).

PC has been slacking in consumer online support, thx to PS2 and Xbox online communitys.
And for me it makes sense, because PC is so impersonal.
I'm sure there are groups with microphones, but when I watch my brother play, no one has a microphone.

Plus everyone on xbox has the same controller, that to me makes for the best level playing field.
Also unless you have the money to shell out for gamertags, you only get one.

Xbox if you want the graphical powerhouse... game library is thin, but they have a few really great games.
(Xbox rules all once modded)

PS2 if you want the largest game library. Some good titles, some not so good. 2-player only limits the entire thing.

Gamecube, if you have younger kids.

Those my thoughts

I like gamecube, it all has to do with trust and games i like, i trust nintendo and i like the games for gamecube, i dont choose systems based on graphics nor power or size, i like the company and trust it to bring me good games and i like the games that are for the system that you cant get for the others, like smash bros and zelda, call me old fashioned but i'd choose any nintendo system over any of the newer ones. I'm not sayin anything is wrong with newers, i just dont prefer them as much as everyone else.

Well its all about the archetecture. When the flat out specs are layed out in the open box is the winner follwed by the cube. but because of the archeture of the cube they are about equal. PS2 is the looser in the power department but has great games. The cube just runs more effeciently.

You know, I used to be a huge Nintendo fan. But they kind of fell out. The Game Cube didnt produce anywhere near enough good games. Playstation is GOOD. I have to go with the X-Box though. I bought a 360 a few months ago and really enjoy it. Its new on the market so there arent many games and the games they have are expenisve, but its like that with all new systems. One big contributing factor to what systems I buy is what games are the going to make for it. I bought the 360 because im a big Elder Scrolls fan. I played Morrowind on first X-Box and when I heard they were going to release Oblivion (the sequel) on the 360, that sealed the deal. If you really want to talk performance, get a PC, its not even debatable. Ofcourse you'll have to fork over 5-8 times what you would pay for the latest consol but if you have the time, money and are serious about gaming its something to consider.

The thing I love most about Xbox is the fact that the games seem to be better in QUALITY. Not just quantity (suck on that PS2 :p). I've always been a fan since Halo hooked me and with Halo 2, Riddick, NCAA Football 2005, Theif: Deadly Shadows, KOTOR2 and all sorts of other awesome games coming out, there's even more bringing me back.

And to tell you the truth, the selection isn't all that bad - http://www.xbox.com/en-ca/products/ Scroll through that. It's not a small number. And ya, those are quality games. (Well, most of them... there are a few by independants (read: tiny companys) that are terrible... but we don't speak of these. We use those as coasters)

You consider Halo and Halo 2 quality? Yes, they are decent FPSs, but come on. The storylines are shallow and pointless. The gameplay is repetative. It's just shoot stuff. Next area. Shoot stuff. Next area. Etc. I mean, in Halo, were there even any bosses to fight? I mean, that's half the fun of games is beating the crap out of something several times your size. Riddick? I have yet to see a game based off a movie that I would consider above good quality, let alone above the entire library of another system. NCAA Football is the same thing every year with prettier graphics and maybe one new mode, just like every other sports game out there. Plus, it's on all the consoles. That's a quantity over quality game if I've every seen one. I mean, I'm not even sure Final Fantasy has a new game every year. And at least those games are different from each other in more ways than one number in the name. Thief was originally a PC game, so despite it being on XBox, it's really a testament to PC gaming. KOTOR2 I haven't played yet, but I'll agree that KOTOR is an excellent game.

And at the person who said load times are better of XBox, what games are you playing? Are you just comparing sports games and FPSs? Try comparing RPGs and you've got a whole other thing coming. FF games have no loading times. Star Oceans are small. Magna Carta's are small. KOTOR? My goodness those were miserable. I spent a decent percentage of my play time in loading screens. Same with Fable. Action games, I don't know since I've only played those on PS2, but the loading times for Devil May Cry 3 are small, and within each level, almost nothing. Honestly, it seems like each system loads the games that people buy them for the fastest. No one buys an XBox for RPGs. No one buys a PS2 for FPSs.

And @ WhereHeLeadsMe, 5-8 times as expensive? Try 2 or 3. A decent gaming computer can be had for $800. A good gaming computer, yes, you're talking 5 or 6, but 8 is kinda crazy. And talking about how the last gen of consoles are priced now isn't a fair comparison since that hardware is way out of date compared to what you'd get in even a low end gaming computer now.

@ SUNSTONE, why do you think the PC is more impersonal than an XBox? I'm just curious, I've never really played XBox online much, so I have no idea what it's like.

As for headsets on PC, I use one as do many of my friends. But for the biggest PC online area (MMOs), there's not much need of them unless, for example, you are in a raiding guild on WoW, in which case everyone has one.

Sorry for the long post, sometimes I just keep going. :p

As a huge fan of Sony I love the PS2,
Not for any real deep meaning simply as an eight year old I liked their games and all of my friends had one.
By the time PS2 came out I didn't have a DVD player and I thought it would be nice to be able to do that and play all my old games

NOW however things are different.

I am not a large fan of Nintendo, simply because I am not a fan of their gaming style (there are exceptions but they have less RPG and RTS's than either PS2 or Xbox)
Xbox I have always been a huge enemy of, until
Final Fantasy
That has been the clincher for me, I want to play the newest ones.
If that wasn't enough I heard about Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (albeit 360) and the addition of all of the transfers from PC to Xbox.
Since I don't feel like paying $800 dollars for a good gaming PC, I plan on waiting until the 360's price is a little more attractive and then I will break all of my principle's and by from Microsoft....
:D

But I am only doing it because I don't feel like buying a really high priced PC, I like Playstations because they are always good middle of the road systems (perhaps not the PS3 but then that's another thread)

I hope you realize that the only FF game for the 360 is XI, the MMORPG. The single player FFs are still PS games. FF XII is PS2 and FF XIII is PS3. Oblivion is an excellent game, but is, imo a far better game on the PC because of mods, but like you said about the PS3's price, that's another thread.

Gamecube was the console I ended up playing most because I'm a sucker for nintendo games- because I ended up (and still do) disliking violent/magical games, so the awesome ps2 rpgs got cut. But, the ps2 was worth owning in the end for DDR alone.

Never liked xbox, IMO only good game on it is DDR, has I don't like shooters- what the console is mainly good for. Gamecube also had, IMO the best offline multiplayer. It was also home to The legend of Zelda four swords adventure, quite possibly my most favourite game of all time.

Gamecube > Ps2 > Xbox

I've never played Four Swords Adventures, but I have some very fond (and funny) memories of playing Four Swords on GBA with my friends back in high school. That game was awesome.
