I can only answer morally: if you use a chip to allow the playing of pirated games, then yes, morally, it is wrong. But if you intend to play imports or something and need the chip to do so, I do not see how it could be immoral.

I have an Xbox, Yes it is modded. A 160 gig HDD. Are there illegally downloaded games? Yes. Do I feel bad? Not really...Because my DVD drive is broke, so all I can do is play games from HDD. :'(

And your Poll makes no sense really...

I voted maybe because i'm indifferent. Microsoft shouldn't pry into your business, because you did pay for the xbox and it IS yours. However, most of the time modded xboxs are used for illegal activity. I think that the bigger HD and the linux OS are cool, but the pirated games and stuff isn't.

I don't think they are necessarily bad. I mean it's your Xbox, so do what you want with it. Pirating games is bad but then there are times when I wish mine was modded so I could just copy KOTOR 2 (and all my games for that matter) to the hdd to reduce loading times.

My friend says that his roommate has a bunch of games downloaded onto his Xbox's HDD.

About how many games can a standard Xbox drive hold? I thought it was only sized reasonalbly enough for storing saved games and profiles.

Redguard: People who modify their Xboxen with the intent of copying games (whether legally or not so much) often purchase a larger hard disk, as the 10 or 8 gig installed at the factory can't hold more than one or two at a time.

I think that is one of the reasons Mircosoft shouldnt care. If someone really wants to play on live they will go buy another box. Therefore Microsoft not only makes another 150 bucks, but also makes the fee for Live. I hope that makes sense. That and the games will still have to be purchased.

I think it's interesting in the area of XBox emulation (i.e. running non-XBox games - SNES, Atari, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, etc. - on the XBox). The XBox's processing speed alone gives it an advantage over Dreamcast emulation, which is currently the easiest since you don't have to mod them (at least, the first batch you didn't; I was lucky - I got an original :D ). That would be my only reason, seeing as how I'm not too big on many XBox titles, and I'd rather as soon buy them instead of going to the hassle of pirating just to save money...it's not worth it.
