World War Two is one of my favorite subjects, so naturally I like any games on WW2.

I've played three WW2 FPS. Two games in the Elite Forces series (Iwo Jima and Normandy); Medal of Honor (Allied Assault and Spearhead); and now I've started playing the original Call of Duty. BTW....these are all the PC versions. I don't have a console system.

I didn't like the Elite Forces games. I started them but didn't get very far. They felt like twitcher games to me.

I loved Medal of Honor!! I don't get all the way through the story lines of many games I play, but I got all the way through both Allied Assault and Spearhead. The final chapter of Allied Assault was intense! Hopefully I'll get the Pacific game in the series for Christmas.

I'm really liking Call of Duty. I dunno if it will top MoH...but it might!!

Any opinions on WW2 FPS? Any others out there that I should try? (Remember...PC only...and dat don't mean politically correct!!)

It's a mod for Unreal 2004. EASILY the best WWII FPS out there. Better then CAll of Duty 2 online even! It's just a blast man...they recently added a few vehicles in. The game is more infantry based however. But it is just AWESOME.
You can buy UT2004 for like $10 now..the mod is free for download.

Despite the excessive language, I prefer the Brothers in Arms series for the xbox. By far the most realistic WWII fps available on the xbox. It has the best graphics of any console WWII fps, and very realistic tactics and weapons. Earned in Blood was a good improvement over Road to Hill 30, and I'm looking forward to what they do next. MOH would be my second favorite series. I recently rented CoD II: Big Red One for the xbox, and was not impresed; still very scripted and linear, and poor graphics especially when comapred to BiA.

See now..for single player games..I LOVE scripted events. It really makes you feel like you are in an interactive movie. :)

I liked MoH, it had some realism. Return to Castle Wolfenstein was pretty good. BF1942 is another one I play, it is definitely unrealistic but a very fun shooter. Have you tried WWII Online? I was playing that recently again but they did something with the new release and it just wont run right on my new ATI card so I canceled out. Really good realism, one shot one kill type of stuff but with thousands of players on the battle field with you at the same time. It uses a lot of real world physics in its combat model from the vehicles to the foot soldier. Worth a try and sometimes they offer free trials.

holy hell, i was about to suggest RO!

I mean sure you have to get UT2004, but its cheap now, and well worth even 60$, anyway, you get that, then download RO completely free, and then play online, completely free....how awsome is that?

And besides, RO has to be awsome, it stood up against other mods in the Make Somthing Unreal contest, winning 1,000,000 dollars...

And hands down, RO is the most realistic shooter out there. I mean, what other WWII shooter requires that an MG barrel be replaces after firing too much? Or one that has no ammo indicator, no crosshairs, no stamina indicator, and no enemy indicator?

As for BiA, it's graphics weren't that great, and the bullet tracking was horrendous, i mean, a guy could be five feet in front of you and somehow dodge a whole thompson magazine expendure. (no, i don't have bad aim, the iron sights, not the optional crosshairs were on him)

One thing i don't like about RO, (but its kinda expected with mods) is the voice acting, the lack of animations, and the controls. No longer is there simply a few keys to use, but there are assignments to little things like checking the magazine weight (which, ironically, is kinda essential since there is no ammo indicator), requesting more ammo, attach/remove bayonet, etc. Still awsome though.

Thanks for all the input!! I'll see about tracking some of these down.

Just a story to tack on...yesterday morning while waiting for some work to be done on my car, I was eating breakfast at Perko's and working on some Sunday school stuff on my laptop. I was sutting everything down when a waitress walking by (maybe in her 40s) noticed my Medal of Honor wallpaper. She got all excited and said "My husband has that!! Medal of Honor, right?" Then she leaned over to the diners in the booth behind mine and said "Jean!! Doesn't your husband play this game? Medal of Honor?" Kind of embarrassing, actually! ;)

The other day I noticed something that I've never noticed in any FPS before. (Granted...my experiences aren't as wide as a bunch of yours.)

I was playing Call of Duty (the original one...I just recently got a machine that will play any FPS since the original Half-life). I'm still in the 101st missions in Normandy, and the current objective was to clean out the German mortar pits in town. I was closing in on the last pit. I took out the one guard I saw, then crawled up to the corner, leaned around it, and saw the two-man mortar crew. They didn't see me, so I pulled back around the corner, switched to the sniper rifle, and leaned back out around the corner. I put the cross-hairs on the nearest crewman, upper chest. The far crewman was directly in line with the near guy. I fired the shot...and they both went down! Before I could chamber the next round, both the crewman were down and dead.

Is this type of blow-through becoming more common in FPS'?
