("...naah, I won't let you have a second childhood Trailltrader, instead I going to keep you on the ball here..." smiled the goblin wondering why he always came across the good reads moments before bedtime too, smiling "...back in the morning then...")

"Ah, but you have no choice in the mater! I am going to enjoy a second childhood simply because my Mom and Dad started me working when I was 8 and doing manly chores by the age of 12, and doing a full work load plus school at 14" Said smiling. "I've done my time behind a plow, taking care of 210 fish aquariums and bird cages in the family pet shop, and time at the family's farm"

"No, I think I shall endeavor to balance an eel on my nose like that poem in "Alice in Wonderland"

repost from elsewhere, the "Ontario General Election likely soon" thread, chatting with a chimpanzee

So you are OK with Hudaks plan to get rid of 10s of thousands of public employees making a salary slightly over the poverty line and replacing them with employees from private contractor corporations who will be making a salary slightly under the poverty line, and allowing the corporation to pocket the difference? A corporation I might add that will enjoy substantial tax breaks in a Hudak government.
"...maybe to vote for the very worst solution might be best answer here, since it would just quicken the inevitable end..." mentioned the goblin, thanking the chimp for about the only decent thread on this forum, adding "...where I suspect too, that when they look back at our period in history, they'll conveniently overlook the fact that each modern day democracy in its turn has been taken over by big business at the behest of the even bigger banks...", in fact, canada only had to look at its southern neighbor for a lessen in how not to, but the goblin also felt that rather than learning anything from the demise of the US productivity, it would simply follow suit here, adding "...what they forget is that insecurity in small dosages causes the worker to be more competitive, agreed, and yet where the dosage is too great, and especially where it is long term too, is where there is no real sense of taking risks, thus the worker either tightens his belt or has his belt tightened for him causing the economy goes into tailspin, which in turn leads to an external war to avoid its alternative of an internal conflict..."

repost from elsewhere, the "im getting old" thread

"...ah now, my body was never my actual age inside of me here..." went the goblin defiantly who on his outside alone was that other age then, both as in how he felt and moved, and in how others saw him too, adding "...true, too true then, but I'm so ageless on this internet here, and that should matter to me if I'm not going to become my externals only...", in fact, no doubt years would pass and the goblin would become even younger still expanding the scope of the fluidity of his pen through the practice of posting, explaining "...it's much like the kata of some martial art perhaps, the same fluidity grace punch flexibility needed, and all done without straining oneself too, and yes, this is something open to all, why anyone could write in their posts now, but unlike one's body one's livewriting is not encumbered by the aging process, far form it, this kata gets so graceful that the viewer no longer sees the person for the grace of the dance, till only the dance remains..."

("...mention the wish for change in both 1914 and 2014, some gut feeling of unfinished business had to be carried out here, for both those years lead to war then, where in both cases, it's not a world war that is wanted, only that people were fed up with things as they were/are...", so a showdown between two or three great powers, resulted in gamechange in 1917, and where a showdown today is all but certain now, why, because the US is the sick man of the new world...")
Not really. The US is more powerful and authoritative than ever, and our government is flexible enough to survive any number of disaster as our history has shown. The EU is the sick man of Europe. It's two inches from causing internal European conflict, not to mention inching Europe toward war with the Soviets.
("...europe is to all effects an american protectorate already, but as such it is less important than the sick man of new world and all the more reason why I go back to what I'm saying, that the parallels between the buildup to 1914 and that of today are in place..." voiced the goblin, then adding "...so tell me which war has the US won since WWII, where the economy is in tatters, its debt is out of control, it's military is over extended, oil has peaked, and the petrodollar is bypassed, all meaning that they will seek another war for sure, no they can't say it openly of course but how else would you interpret the military buildup in iraq/alphganistan, no not the talaban/alqaeda reason is it, no they know what they're doing...")

"Ah, but there is a time and a place to dance" Trailltrader said, sipping his whiskey in the Bistro "Sometimes the reason is simply the happiness of being alive- like when children skip down a sidewalk. Sometimes the reason is to impress a young lady in hope of bedroom conquest". Takes another sip "And then you have the village idiot who does this: Man Says Domino's Pizza Burned Him When He Had Sex With It: Company Responds and it makes you wonder "If Whiskey is bad for you what is this guy drinking? I want to AVOID it!!"

"...talking of love..." mentioned the goblin thanking the old soldier, continuing "...my daughter has bought me a bialetti stovetop espresso maker, one cup, where the coffee comes from the far east my first cup was yesterday..." in fact, the goblin was deeply in love at this point, adding "...if my posts turn all romantic you'll understand won't you, I mean what a body, all sweet with attitude then..."

The PM of the regional parliament in the Crimea is now saying that he has personal control of all military and police on the peninsula. Which one can assume includes the paramilitary/guerrillas who seized infrastructure points this morning. I figure by the end of the weekend, the Russians will claim to have annexed it.
And then what's next?
"...each of the superpowers gets more assertive, each extending their sphere of influence and annexing territory where they can..." replied the goblin, adding "...but they'll want to do it in a way that doesn't tip things over into outright war now, where russia is guessing that america won't get involved in this, and where china doesn't see it as detrimental to their affairs where they need russia to counterbalance america plus they're buying oil and gas from russia, and where india and europe are too small to matter here...", in fact, the goblin felt that the lesson of hitler going one country too far wouldn't be lost on mr putin here, smiling "...currency war leads to trade war leads to proxy war is the standard, so today, like back before the WW1 too, the countries are seeking alliances in this growing power struggle and possible forthcoming war..."

"...colonies costs, where the real reason why the old soviet system collapsed was of its over extended and bankruptcy..." ventured the goblin, adding "...mind you america today is more or less where the soviets were back then, and how much debt is it today, and with production out-sourced to china too, ah yes, america can go in if it likes just as it could win whichever war it fights but can you imagine them then running the place after that with both russia just across its boarder with russians making up large part of that internal population too, simply america might be able to afford the war part then, but I seriously doubt that it could ever afford that peace afterwards..."

*Sucks on his bubble pipe while sipping his whisky* Nobodys mentioned the Russians invading the Crimean area again- 'tis a stepping stone into the Ukraine. The clown in the White House has made a threat- will he back it up or back down? Either way it's going to look bad.

*Takes a big whiskey sigh* So I'm angry and cannot help but wonder how many will die this time if this stuff spins out of control.

Now, the coffee maker is far better news, Flea! :) They work well even if a mite scary the first time you use that model. And you'll want to get the 4 cup version down the road to get your "fix" of caffeine.

Brinny? You ever used that style? You load it up like Goblin's pics show, put it on the stove, it heats up,,,,but instead of being like an old style percolator, it'll go WOOOSH! at one time and fill the entire pot in perhaps a tenth of a second.

And you want to be 100% conscious of what you're doing- that aluminum hull being empty now can melt on the average home burner creating a huge molten mess. Very entertaining when you're 9 years old and you watch your parents give each other sheepish grins!!

"...well I'm not sure which is more important here, my getting a bialetti stovetop espresso maker 4cup, or thinking about the split up of ukraine into two separate halves, of which, since the split up is defacto in my view, that leaves me to buy the 4cup on monday then..." mentioned the goblin suspecting too that that the answer to brinny's question was most likely not intentionally but that the banks put themselves first before their country as is the predatory nature of banking anyway, sighing "...things will get worse still, anyone with a decent amount of money should not keep it in the bank, because the government can't continue to bail out banks, so instead cypress was the new idea of using depositor's bank deposits to bail in the banks, and cypress was the trail run then..."

"...the ukraine will most probably split into two now..." ventured the goblin, adding "...for the west can't win this one for two reasons, first the proximity to russia and second that a large proportion of the populous are russians in their own territory or at least russian speaking, however, the russians too will not want to land themselves with a military occupation again, no they done that and been there before, too costly isn't it...", so the goblin suspected that the coming war, which indeed was now coming in his view, would be elsewhere again, but no, not because of russia's or china's growing status, but more simply because america has let the financial institutions weaken it to the point where its stark choice becomes either internal unrest or external war, adding "...nuclear war is most unlikely, but don't ever think that nuclear weapons somehow rule out the possibility of conventional war, where most waring sides have had stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons to date..."

"...perhaps those who didn't see that the end was coming deserve to die by that end then..." ventured the goblin upon the economic collapse, the growing unrest, and the ongoing climatic change for the worse, adding "...in other words those who think that things still are as they were, those who simply look away and distract themselves in games or in the rat race, those who blindly think that their government will save them, or those who try god to the hilt by becoming sheep, yes those types then, for these are not the generous times of yesterday..."

Apparently the UK has chickened out of applying any real pressure to Russia. No sanctions, no freezing of assets, just not allowing Russian officials to travel to the UK.
Entirely different scenario. Hitler was a lunatic. Putin is just an idiot.
"...kind of figures since russia supplies the UK with natural gas for heating..." mentioned the goblin, adding "...didn't peter the great once say the one thing worse than bad government is weak government, where hitler might have been a lunatic but putin is no idiot believe me, even if he's not stalin neither though his mindset is that of the KGB and of his years there, where if he doesn't show strength he'll show weakness, where ukraine is not the only partner to take into consideration here, ah no, I suspect russia would have preferred to wait this one out in fact, as russia is sitting on the very natural reserves that will empower further whereas america is sitting on the fed created debt time-bomb, so perhaps peter the great could have laughed saying the second thing worse than any government is a country run by a central bank something that the founding fathers were so adamant upon, and something too, that the terminating fathers today are fast learning to their cost..."

Wait a sec, Gob- you're going to tell me with all that North Sea oil that the UK is importing CNG from,,,,Russia? You sure on that? Sure seems counterproductive to me!
