• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Okay, so I read Kirk's thread about not dating outside of being Lutheran, so I thought I would make up a thread/poll about dating outside ones denomation. Does it matter to you? Please explain your reasoning either way. :)

Depends what the demonination is. There are several that come to mind, but I'll leave that for people to guess for themselves. ;)

In all seriousness, I can't see myself marrying an Amish person, or a Jehovah's Witness. A loud-mouth Evangelical from Jesus Camp would probably fall under this umbrella as well. But in all honesty, I somehow doubt they'd really be all that impressed with me to begin with. Demonination/faith doesn't really phase me. I just don't want someone who's really conservative. No-one who's really right-wing.

If we click, he respects my belief system, and is liberal, I could see myself settling down with that person. Regardless of what they believe.

I'm non-denominational, so in the strictest sense, this doesn't really apply to me. But I do believe that if a couple can't worship together, they shouldn't be together. There are certain denominations (or even schools of thought, since certain issues transcend denominations) that I avoid like the plague, so if a gal belongs to one of those I probably won't be making long range plans around her.

yes, as long as they were willing to find a common ground. I would be willing to do that as well. If they 100% insisted that i become their denomination (no matter the denomination), no questions asked , then no. I would be more concerned if they were a Christian who had a daily personal relationship with Christ.

Yep i would date outside of my denomination... and to cut to the chase and save time on future polls I have generated these common questions:

Q:Interracial dating? A:Yes and I have
Q:Someone many many years older? A: Probably not, we'd have not too much in common
Q:Someone with a hairy back? A:Absolutely!!!
Q:Someone without a hairy back? A:It would be a stretch but i'm willing to accept that about him.
Q:A person born in New Jersey? A: :swoon:
A Someone who does not know how to moonwalk? A: He better be one Smooth Criminal and steal my heart
Q:A person who doesn't know how to make the bed? A:What kind of a world do we live in????
Q:A fan of Seinfeld? A:I'd rather be single for the rest of my life.

I voted that it doesn't matter either way. Why? Because when you find the person that is right for you, God will lead you both to the church that is right for you as a couple. My BIL is Greek Orthodox and my sister is Methodist. They tried attending each other's churches and were not satisfied. Now, they attend a non-denominational church and love it.

Of course I would, but like others have responded with, it'd depend on some distinctives and if they could respect my beliefs on those subjects.

Eh? Depends on how you define 'hairy' then. Excessive back hair doesn't run in our family. Most of it tends to be sparse and only across the upper back, between the shoulders. And that stuff is terribly annoying. I know I'd be more than happy to get those follicles killed so I wouldn't have to deal with it anymore.

I would, but eventually for me to consider something more serious she would have to be okay with worshipping where I am at because ultimately I believe the Man is ordained in the relationship to be the Spiritual Leader of the relationship and eventually the marriage it if gets to that point.

Would i date inside my own? (whatever that is haha) In all seriousness though, I don't see how it could make any difference unless there were major theological differences as say if i was thinking about a catholic or mormon. There are plenty of denominations that preach the right things, some people just fit in some better than others.

I would.

Denomination doesn't really matter to me. The only one's that are iffy are Catholic and Mormon. It depends on the person though. A serious Mormom or Catholic wouldn't want anything to do with me anyway.

Although right now I consider myself a non-denom., my doctrine is still very Baptist, with some big exceptions. I would be willing to date someone from most all denom.s, but if we got serious, doctrinal alignment would be very important to me, and I find that even people from different denom.s can often agree on that. So I'm not tied up in knots over it :D

Edit: I do not consider Mormons a denom. of Christianity, so that would be totally out of the picture for me.
