Robeson used the word intentionally, for shock value and to make a point. He himself knew that many in the audience believed it "unacceptable."

What word? "N____"?
Robeson didn't write the song and he sang it both as originally written and in altered versions. In the early 40's (or late 30's?) he only sang altered lyrics. There was no shock value to the word "N___" in the late 20's when Hammerstein wrote the music for Showboat.

It appears, JCook, that you associate certain fashion trends with black people. The general condemnation of those fashion trends betrays racism, even when it's worn by white people.

Besides, the fact remains that you started out with an example which specifically mentioned race.

I go to the projects a lot and I've never had any trouble with minority youth who hang around on corners with their hats on backwards. Of course, there is no doubt some of that is due to their realizing harming a comparatively rich white woman will net them a longer stretch in Attica than just mugging one of their neighbors would.

OTOH a lot of people in places like Oklahoma, where Obama did worse than Kerry and Gore, scare the ever-livin * outta me.
