The question is if he wants it.
The other question is if Mt Athos would take him. I'm pretty sure the old Byzantine treaty that guaranteed Mt Athos protection would also protect against patriarchs.

Thessaloniki would be a better choice because it and the northern section of Greece are still under the EP. Or we could just dissolve the EP.

I sure wish he would personally. Plus it's not unprecedented as the Patriarch of Antioch is in Damascus.
Thats only because Antioch has been reduced to just a village with Damascus having replaced it as capital. That would mean EP would have to move to Ankara.
Putting that aside though he could move to anywhere that would take him as Patriarch in exile. Which would not be the first time.

Good point. On second thought as others have mentioned Mt. Athos may not be the best idea, and Thessaloniki would be a better one.

Thessaloniki would be the most logical in that after the Latin conquest of Constantinople there were three successor Byzantine states. The best known was the Empire of Nicea where the E. P. relocated in exile. The other was the Kingdom of Trebizond in Pontos and the other the Kingdom of Epiros with it's capital in Thessaloniki. At one point all three rulers of these regions were considered the rightful successor states to the emperor's of Constantinople. Thessaloniki is the only city that is not in Turkish control anymore.

Thessaloniki also has the highest density of churches to population in the world. I don't know if it still has the following reputation, but it used to be known as a city that prays. Thessaloniki is also directly under the E.P. and is not technically part of the Church of Greece.
