These two massive online rpgs have come out recently, and although I know quite a few people playing WoW, I tried Everquest 2 at another friend's and it was gripping. Was never into games until I tried these massive multiplayer rpgs.

So... which one to get? Convice me of which is the better choice!

Depends on how you play. I was in the open beta for both so I can comment on my perception of them but I will admit it to be very limited.

EQ2 seemed to me to be Everquest with better graphics, and a lot of bells and whistles. Which is a good thing. I loved EQ and sank 3 years of my life into it. If you have a lot of time to dedicate to playing, then I'd say EQ2. It's not even a consideration for me at this point because it is too hardware intensive for me to want to play on my old PC. That could also be one of the reasons it didn't grab hold of me during the beta, because I had to play it at 800x600 with details on low.

WoW on the other hand is very friendly to casual gamers while still offering content and challenge for more dedicated gamers. It is a next generation MMORPG so it has tons of cool features and best of all, it runs like butter on my old box. I don't mean that it lumps up and causes it to short out :D but it plays almost perfectly at 1024x768 with all details on medium.

I'm not an expert but I believe this is because the stylized Warcraft 3 type graphics require fewer polygons than the nice, curvy elven females on EQ2. ;)

I'd say off the top of my head, base your decision on how much time you have to dedicate to playing. If you have several hours a day to dedicate to the game, then flip a coin because both would be great, although I suspect EQ2 would be more rewarding for a long term, hard core gamer. If on the other hand you only have an hour or so a day, then I'd say WoW, hands down. Hope this helps.

Thanks. So you are saying if I had more time I should go with E2? It's holidays here for me, so I have much more time up my sleave, about a few hours a day.

I have tried E2 and it looks great. I think I will try WoW on a friend's comp and then decide which to get. It's just my friend who has E2 really wants me to play E2 and he'd be disappointed if I chose WoW.

Btw an FX6600GT would be good enough for it right?

Why do you say if I had a lot of time, I should go with EQ? And if I had less time each day, I should go with WoW. Do you mean to say that WoW is easier/has less features? Can you elaborate on that a bit more thanks.
It's not that it has fewer features, just that WoW is more friendly to casual gamers and I'd say that it probably is easier than EQ2, though with MMORPGs difficulty isn't as much of a factor as with single player games. Really, what I meant was if you have plenty of time, either game would be great but if the time you can commit to playing is limited then WoW would be the best choice since it is more CG friendly.

For instance, in WoW, you get what is called "rest experience" whenever you are at an inn or in a major city. While you are there, whether you are logged in or not, a "needle" will slowly advance on your experience bar and when you start fighting again, all xp gained up to the needle will be at 200%. So, say you can only play an hour a day, you will get a significant bonus to xp during the limited time you can play.

WoW also makes it easier for casual gamers because often you won't be able to find a group right away so rather than spending a big chunk of your play time LFG (looking for group) you can just solo.

Do I really need to have played EQ 1 to understand the story line of EQ 2?

And I just realised WoW has so many less Races and Classes than EQ2.
Everquest had a story line? :D

Just kidding. Of course it had a story but it had so little to do with the gameplay and was so hard to get into because 95% of the people playing were only interested in getting levels and uber gear. That said, no, you don't need to have played EQ to get into EQ2 but it is cool to see the tie-ins. Of course I don't understand the whole Overlord thing. I mean I personally helped kill Sir Lucan yet he somehow came back and became the Overlord? :D

Ultimately it's going to come down to taste. Some people are going to say EQ2 is better and some will say WoW is better. You will have to look at all the aspects of each game that would make or break it in your opinion and make an informed decision.

This is a pretty wide-spread debate over the internet, as World of Warcraft and Everquest II are the biggest MMORPGs for the end of 2004.

I have only played World of Warcraft and not Everquest II, so I have no grounds for voting. I do not plan on playing Everquest II, however, since I have a grudge against SOE for their previous games they released (Planetside and Star Wars Galaxies were serious let-downs for me). Heck, even if I wasn't going to play World of Warcraft, I wouldn't play EQ2.

Most of the reviews and slide towards World of Warcraft. I would imagine that would be because World of Warcraft appeals to a larger spectrum of gamers--the ones who have less time on their hands. Needless to say, more people like World of Warcraft than Everquest II. That doesn't necessarily mean that WoW is better, because ultimately, it all boils down to what your gameplay style is.

All I can say is that World of Warcraft is a heck of a lot of fun, even for me, someone who has hated MMORPGs in the past (except for City of Heroes). As of right now, it's my favorite game.

And I just realised WoW has so many less Races and Classes than EQ2.

This is true, and in fact I believe Everquest II has more overall content than World of Warcraft. However, keep in mind that the amount of content doesn't always make a game good. It's the quality of the content that really matters. Star Wars Galaxies probably has more content than any game out there, but the gameplay itself is extremely shoddy for most people. City of Heroes has very little content, but that amount of content is very fun.
