You don't recognize that the 4th commandment teaches us who our creator is? That makes it all about creation, our creation.

I don’t see what this has to do with the discussion. But please elaborate, who does the fourth commandment teach us that the Creator is?

How can I apply to my life something I don't understand as I don't see anything in the choices you've given me that expresses how I see the issue?
Have you ever used the words “to” and “from” in the same sentence?

Ok let’s just start simple. Can we agree that from new moon to new moon and from sabbath to sabbath is referring to when they will worship?

“And it shall be from new moon to new moon And from sabbath to sabbath, All mankind will come to bow down before Me,” says the Lord.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭66‬:‭23‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

I don’t see what this has to do with the discussion. But please elaborate, who does the fourth commandment teach us that the Creator is?
If I were to teach someone about who God is, then I would start by speaking about what He has commanded. For example, seeing that God has given wise, holy, righteous, and good laws, they can see that God is wise, holy, righteous, and good, and so forth for other aspects of God's nature. If God were to have commanded His people to commit adultery, then that would have taught us something very different about the nature of who He is, so all of God's commands paint us a picture of He is. Likewise, I would teach someone about who God is by testifying about the things that He has done. Keeping the Sabbath holy testifies that there is a Creator of the world who created it in six days, who rested on the seventh, who is holy, who sanctifies us, and who saves His people out of bondage, so if we believe that these things accurately describe the God that we believe in, then we will live in a way that testifies about their truth by keeping the Sabbath holy.

That doesn't desctibe what the law is either.
Wasn't your reasoning that because Jesus through Isaiah says

therefore Jesus was referring to the Sabbath, and by extension the 10, in the sermon on the Mount when he says the law and the prophets?

Hi! I just wanted to add that I had been under the impression that a lunar month was 28 days, and so 4 Sabbaths would fit neatly into the lunar month. And the first of the month could always be a weekly Sabbath.

But it turns out a lunar month is actually about 29.5 days. So the first day of the month usually won't land on the same day of the week.

***shakes head in wonder***

The fourth commandment talks about the creator.

Not what the creator is but who the creator is. Who He is tells us He has the moral right to tell us how to live.

This is really basic logic and basic understanding of the concept of morality.

Not in the Israelite/Jewish calendar. They had a 28 day month and every so many years they added one month a year to keep their calendar accurate just like we have leap years.

Did they start the 28 day month with the new moon?

How can that happen when the lunar cycle is about 29.5 days?
I already explained it to you. Modern day Jews don't always do things exactly the same way the ancient Jews did. They had no clocks, nor any other ways of accurately measuring time. They just measured time the only way they had, by the lunar cycles and the rotation of the earth.

Well... I'm not following the explanation of how a 28-day month will start with a new moon when the new moon comes around every 29.5 days. Sure you can add more days at the end of the year, but that doesn't change when the new moon is throughout the year

Anyways, that looks like a tangent, to me. And yes, I brought it up most recently

Did you want to talk about what laws Jesus was referring to as the law and the prophets? You gave Isaiah 66 as a reference that the Sabbath, and by extension the 10 commandments, are part of that law. Where does Jesus talk about the dietary laws being part of the law and the prophets that he's referring to in the sermon on the Mount?

He didn't. He had no need to as the Jews kept those laws most faithfully. Most still do except for secular Jews, and even they might. Ever heard of the kosher diet? That is something the vast majority of practicing Jews follow.

So... Is the idea that when Jesus says the law and the prophets, he's referring to the ten commandments plus the laws that the contemporary Jewish people kept?

Yes, I've heard of the kosher diet. Many Jewish people keep a lot of other laws, as well.

No. He's talking about the 10 commandments plus the dietary commands.

Sorry, I'm lost. What would lead us to believe that Jesus was talking about the 10 commandments plus the dietary commands, but not any other laws, when he talks about the law and the prophets in the sermon on the Mount?

You cited Isaiah 66, and the common knowledge of the Jewish people about dietary laws. But don't Jewish people have common knowledge of a lot of other laws as well?

Peace be with you, my man!

Most Jreish beliegs comefrom the Talmud, not the Torah. It's been that way for centuries. It's wny the Phsrisees and Sadducees murdered Jesus. When their traditions conflict with the Torah they follow their traditions.

Great but what does this have to do with the discussion? Is anyone in this thread saying that the Sabbath never existed or that God didn’t rest on the seventh day?
