If I get any calmer, I'll be asleep or unconscious.
What religion are you ? "other"
Yeah, I kinda found some other message in Genesis.

Changes everything, but the bible is still true about something else.

There are so many versions of Christianity, each interpreting what salvation is and how exactly it is achieved in their own way, that I don't think your question is answerable.

Most Christians I know are so superficial and really hypocritical that they don't care about anybody's salvation, theirs or other people's. All they are concerned about is living a comfortable prosperous lives and belonging to a social club (church) that gives them certain benefits. The only inconvenience is the need to pay this club a weekly fee (tithing).

Is salvation in your hands?

What are you supposed to work out?

And

Why do so many Christians try to work out other peoples salvation for them?
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. (Php 2:12-13)

It should be self explanatory. We work out what God works in. Salvation is definitely not dependent on our good works but on the Perfect Work of Christ Jesus.

A bible basher is someone who forcefully uses the bible to convict people of sin, especially verses pertaining to hell.

Would you consider John the Baptist as a 'bible basher?'

Matthew 3: New King James Version (NKJV)

3 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” 3 For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying:

“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord;
Make His paths straight.’”

4 Now John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. 5 Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him 6 and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, 9 and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 10 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

Is salvation in your hands?

What are you supposed to work out?

"work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure." (Php 2:12–13 ESV)

The greek word behind "work out" is an interesting one - katergazomai. It's not often used in the NT. "Work out" is a fine translation. I would point out that the verse says work out your salvation and not work for your salvation. As you can see, Paul goes on to say that it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. So in verse 13 Paul affirms that God is at work within us to make us want to do good and to accomplish good works through us. So altogether, salvation is something that God does in us and through us, but it is not totally automatic. We do participate with God as we "work out" our salvation with him. Yet even this effort on our part is brought about by the activity of God to make us want to do it. Salvation is God's work in us but it's not magic. We actively participate.

Why do so many Christians try to work out other peoples salvation for them?

Because they don't believe the gospel as they ought to.

Blind post. Sorry.

Is salvation in our hands? No -- and yes. Salvation is a monergistic work of God. But God does not force us into His family. We must, in the end, make a choice to receive the salvation God enables us to perceive and understand.

What are we supposed to work out? Read the next verse:

Philippians 2:13
13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

We work out only what God has first worked into us. Our "work" is to submit, receive, and transmit. We are conduits into whom and through whom God communicates Himself.

Why do Christians try to work out the salvation of others? I don't know what you mean. No one can work out the salvation of another. We all of us must have our own relationship with God. There are no second-hand Christians.

Selah.

Luke 4:23 He said to them, "Doubtless you will tell me this parable, 'Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done at Capernaum, do also here in your hometown.'" The people of Nazareth may not have believed reports Jesus could heal people. They were angry at him for assuming he was a prophet. They knew him when he was a construction worker.

How can you work out another's salvation, if you have not found salvation yourself?

Recently I gave up caffeinated beverages and switched to decaff. Decaff is supposed to be about 97% caffeine free. My fingers stopped shaking. I feel less nervous. It took decades for me to give up this brew. One freed from a bad habit may not return to it.

? Convenient way to try for plausible deniability ?
SIR ! Most of [christians] are hypocrits. Most of the [whole world] is not saved.
THEREFORE SIRE, I'd like permission to stay with them all. [I don't want to be saved either]

Now who did John the Baptist target, was it the common folk or the corrupt law givers?

Now remember, I never meant this thread topic to be about works. What ever it means by work out your own salvation, just means it's between you and God.

That how I see it.
