Somewhere in the bible it says money is the root of all evil.men choose evil over good.Darkness over light. So basicly God says money is evil and the root of, yet men chose to ignore what God has to say for 2000 years.God is even going to judge evil in the last days. Now if money is the root of all evil then God must mean that he is going to judge money.God even goes as far as sending his only begotten son as a revelation to what evil is. Money.Jesus says blessed are the poor for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Now tell me, is it better to be rich or poor?

Dear Species 8472. A root grows, and if you let it grow wildly, it will choke its surroundings. Money itself is not evil, it can, and often is, used to do much good. I believe Jesus meant the poor are happy, because money has no chance to curtail their enjoyments, of the simple things in life, like nature`s beauty, family and friends, one`s daily occupation, without hassle of too much ambition, to get rich. Jesus also said, if you have two, give one away. No doubt He meant. don`t clutter your life with unnecessary belongings. We all know, when our time come to leave this temporary body behind, we cannot take anything with us. Money can also do much good, and a true follower of Christ, will never have too much money, because he, or she gives much away. Money used as God intends it to be used, has no chance of becoming a root of evil. I say this humbly nd kindly, Species, and send greetings. Emmy, sister in Christ.

Our consumerist society is a nightmare indeed.

And as the rainforests burn so that more soy can be fed to our industrially bred cattle,
as the maritime ecosystems collapse because of overfishing and pollution,
as the glaciers melt while planes, factories and oversized SUVs spew forth even more greenhouse gases,
and as the working poor live in squalor and misery, knowing fully well that they will never escape the slums,
the economists of this world sit in their mirror-glassed spires of vanity and proudly proclaim that we have never lived as splendidly as we do today.

No, it doesn't. It says that the love of money is the root of all evil.

While I agree that loving money over moral principles can lead one to evil, so can the preference of anything else over moral principles lead to evil. Singling out money is ridiculous, and money has done enormous good in society when people love it enough to earn it and be worthy of it through honest and productive means.

Now tell me, is it better to be rich or poor?

Neither one, unless you mean poor to the point of starvation, at which point being rich is preferable. As long as you have enough money to self-actualize, you're doing fine.

Money is a tool, nothing more. A symbol, a signifier that stands for a specific amount of resources and services that you may obtain for it. As such, money is extraordinarily useful, and a very important factor in our societal life.

Tools aren't inherently evil, although some, like weapons of mass destruction, may be specifically designed for unwholesome purposes.
It's what you do with it that matters. A kitchen knife may be a useful tool that helps you chop up some onions for dinner - or it may be used as a murder weapon.

The same applies to money. The madness starts when money becomes a means in itself, the sole determining factor of decisions. Whenever that happens, *very* bad things start to happen (cf. the Brazilian rainforests, overfishing and so on).

Just as economic thought and theory is starting to infiltrate all aspects of our life, our alarm bells should start to ring.
