In The Gospel Jesus mentions the evil eye, the the one with the quality become the least in Heaven.
Jealousy has long been a source of evil with the serpent by the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and Cain and Abel to name a few.
NLT Matthew 20:8-13 and the whole passage 1-16
8“That evening he told the foreman to call the workers in and pay them, beginning with the last workers first. 9When those hired at five o’clock were paid, each received a full day’s wage. 10When those hired first came to get their pay, they assumed they would receive more. But they, too, were paid a day’s wage. 11When they received their pay, they protested to the owner, 12‘Those people worked only one hour, and yet you’ve paid them just as much as you paid us who worked all day in the scorching heat.’
13“He answered one of them, ‘Friend, I haven’t been unfair! Didn’t you agree to work all day for the usual wage? 14Take your money and go. I wanted to pay this last worker the same as you. 15Is it against the law for me to do what I want with my money? Should you be jealous because I am kind to others?’
People think we should be even. It can economically work if it means keeping up with the Joneses. Buy new appliances like they do. But Communism economically didn't work.
Some people work harder or smarter or have luck.
Some people don't want their neighbour to have more than they do. Three children instead of two, a two story house. A higher income. They say they don't think it is right. But instead Jealousy is not right by God. The jealous type may burn down your house to get even.
And there is the evil eye, in which someone is raised up to your level but you hate it, that they have the same money, or honour, number of children, like jealousy, the one with the evil eye thinks it isn't right and may want to change it. Even if it is that someone knows the Bible better than you do. Reluctance to accept them... evil eye. Perhaps it can even apply to degrees of love.
Jesus said, freely you have recieved, freely you shall give. We need be generous. Matthew 10:8
