I've recently found out about a show called Wonderfalls. Its premiering in the uk on Tuesday, and from what little I've heard, it sounds interesting. Could someone direct me a website that gives some general information, without spoiling it? Or better yet, post something along those lines here.

It's out on DVD here in the USA with extra episodes not televised (since it was canceled). It's very quirky and I loved it. The main character is the baby girl of a family of overachievers. She's sort of stuck working in a gift shop at Niagara Falls where toy animals start talking to her and tell her to do stuff that seems really odd or harsh, but always works out for the best. It was one of my favorite shows last season.

Weird spiritual slants are what the series is all about. The creators’ two governing paradigms were Joan of Arc and her ‘voices’, and being in your 20’s and being forced by the universe to engage with the world around you. Caroline Dhavernas (who plays Jaye, the central character) has said that craziness is what people love most in television, and the show is packed full of it.

However, though influenced by the Christian experiences of Joan, the series is more of a compendium of Hollywood and New age spirituality (ex: the talking toy animals are referenced as ‘muses’), with enough off-color to offend many Christian sensibilities (ex: Joan’s older sister is a lesbian).

Still, I found it to be very representative of current American (and ‘western’) culture, and with some surprising insights into the character and attributes of the one true Christian God of the Scriptures. Plus, I love the theme song by Andy Partridge.

If you’ve happened to catch a bit of the American series Joan of Arcadia, Wonderfalls is like a Canadian sit-com version that is twice as fast and three times as quirky.
Personally, I loved it, though I would have to qualify it as a bit of a guilty pleasue.
