To me it just seemed like they didn't know where they were going with the ending. So...
I liked the first way through, but I doubt that I'll be watching it again any time soon. It was one of those things that I cut a lot of slack for because I thought it was headed somewhere, but it turned out that it really wasn't.
We first get that incredibly abrupt ending. I did like how they applied Tomino logic in the extension that the OVA used (Everyone... must.. DIE) but even in that it didn't really seem to me that they had any idea of what they wanted Paradise to be, they were just killing everyone to give some sense of finality. And to be fair, if they had kept at that I would have been mildly satisfied. But then those last few ending scenes, I'm still ??? about them.
