  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

((ooo, i like fight scenes))

"I was just out to get some fresh air and I saw your light. My brother and I have been sleeping in a warehouse not too far from here and I love to see the city at night. Where do you all come from?" Elana asked.

"Well, i'm pretty much from around here. This is where i grew up; and i've been here my whole life. Sly is from upstate NEw York and recently came to live here with me. And Arguile, we just met him. Where did you say you were from again?"

But he didn't have the time to answer, they were soon interupted.

((I wasn't sure if you were going to knock or ambush or what, so i left it open.
and right now i think Elana is the only one with her wings out if i'm not mistaken.))

Lex grinned and shook his head a little. “It’s no problem.” He said; taking the shirt from his shoulder and handing it to Paul. “Here. Put this on.”

He took his foot off the chair and walked over to the stove. “So what’s to eat?”

……………….

Arguile, still in his griffon form, answetred. “I lived in the forests, but—“. His sentence was cut short by a noise at the door. He looked in that direction, confused. “What’s that?”

The group made their way up the stairs with Stinger leading and Jakob right behind him. “Which one?” Stinger whispered once they got to the right floor, “Third from the left.” Jakob answered, pointing, “That one.”
“All right, I’ll go in first, Jakob behind me. I want you two to stand by the door,” He said pointing to two of them. “You shoot out the window so our boys can get in from there.” Stinger drew his gun and put on the silencer. The rest of his men followed suit. Jakob pulled out his dagger and one of his throwing knives. “What happened to your gun?”
“Don’t ask.”
Stinger looked at them, “All right, on three.” Suddenly there wash a crash from the other side of the door.
----------------------------------------------------------------
“Come on, hurry up!” One of Stinger’s men on the fire escape said as loud as he could, while still keeping a whisper. The group of four were almost to the right floor. “All right, we’re here.” One of them said as the last may climbed up. “Now what?” A newer addition to the group asked. “We wait.” They waited in silence for about ten seconds, “Where is he!” One of them finally broke the silence. “Maybe we missed our cue?” Another one suggested. “Check.” The third one ordered. There was a small ledge that ran along each of the windows. One was able to fit a foot on it if they tried, and held on to whatever he could reach. The newer guy creeped along the ledge until he got to the right window. He peered in, and saw only the bearers. After creeping back he looked at the rest of the group, “They’re not there yet, but...” He stopped. The others looked at him and waited for him to finish, “I, um well, I think one of ‘em saw me.”
“What!” The other three said at once.
“Now what?”
“We go in.” One of them said decisively.
“But...” He was cut off. “Start walking.” The group walked along the ledge, one at a time. “Go!” The one in the back said once the group had stopped at the window. Each already had their guns out. The one in front kicked the window. The glass shattered. He slid through, with the others right behind him. There were four people in the room, one had wings out, and another didn’t even look human. One of the men fired a shot at the girl’s wing, the other three held their guns at each of the others. “Nobody move!” The one who had shot at the wing shouted.

That noise... He knew that noise! He had heard it before! He looked at the hole in Elana's wing and saw the crimson dripping out of it. He knew what this was.

During the time he'd spent in the forest, he had befriended the creatures that also lived there. He had seen men come with long metal pipes that made a similar, yet louder noise. They had pointed the pipes at his fellow forest creatures, who fell to the ground, blood seeping from a hole in their bodies. He knew what this was.

Death.

He suddenly shrieked and charged at the men. He lashed out at the nearest hunter, shashing his face to ribbons. The man fell screaming in agony. Arguile pounced on the second hunter; still shrieking like the griffin he was, wings knocking over everything in their path. The three remaining men opened fire on the oncoming beast. One projectile caught him in the shoulder, another grazed his cheek. Arguile's lion-like feet struck the second hunter in the chest and he went down, but not before getting off another shot that caught Arguile in the side. Arguile shrieked again, this time in agony, before rearing his head and drove his sharp beak downward; into the second man's chest.

She had heard them coming up the stairs, but was too caught up in the comfort of the situation to realize what was happening. Moments later a searing pain ripped through her left wing, she could feel her strength draining as the blood dripped down the black webbing. Her eyes blazed a red color and she screeched an ear piercing scream as she leapt at one of the hunters who were shooting at Arguile. Her fingernails lengthened as she changed shape slightly to resemble the wild bat-like creature. She wrenched her fingers into the shoulders of the hunter and plunged her teeth into his neck, she drew strength from his life force and the hole in her wing slowly healed.

Another shot went off as the hunter next to her victim attempted to rescue his comrade. Elana rolled the limp form of the hunter on top of her to block the shot which went straight into the hunter's back. He was lying still because of the venom in her fangs and she slipped out from under him once her wing was mostly healed. The second hunter tried to fire at her again but, Elana shrunk against the shadows behind the easy chair and disappeared into the darkness.

"Whats that?" All of the heads in the room turned to the front door. So they were all caught off guard when the glass shattered and the gunmen came pouring in. Th gunfire was loud and certain. No one could mistake that for anything else. What hapened nxt happened so fast. Elana stumbled back, then charged head on. Leo shoved Sly behind the couch to Keep him out of the path of the gun fire. There was an earpeircing screech fromElan then from Arguile. Leo grabbed the bat he had in the corner and came at one of the men swinging. Had the man been a better gunman, he probably would have had the chance to shoot Leo, but the man seemed a bit unexperienced. Leo swung the bat into the man's chest with enough force to send him flying across the room and into the wall. Ever since his wings sprouted Leo has had strength of that beyond any ordinary man. Enough strength to lift a car or send a man flying across the room. The man fell unconcious.

Leo looked around the room. One of the gunman lay on the floor, his face alll shreded another lay with blood dripping from his neck and another was under neither Arguile. Leo ran up to Arguile who seemed to be hurt badly. He knet down beside him and sat him up. "You have to get up." He told him. Then he looked for Elena who was no where to be found. Leo heard the voices at the door getting louder. This was not good. Leo ran over to Sly who was frozen with fear behind the couch. "Sly you need to hide. Quick, go inside the coat closet. And don't come out no matter what. Promise me that you wont come out." Leo got up and started walking towards the door, bat in hand ready to do what was necesarry. "Promise me Sly."

Sly didn't have time to answer, before the front door opened. By the time they came in Sly was safely hidden.

“What was that?” Jakob said above the noise coming from the other side of the door.
“I’m going to kill them!” Stinger cursed under his breath.
“If they aren't already dead.” Jakob put in.
“Break it down, NOW!” Stinger yelled at his men. They rammed the door. Nothing.
“Must be doubled.” Jakob remarked. Doubling was common with bearers trying to hide. It didn’t mean that anything about the door itself was doubled, just that it was thicker, heavier, and harder to break down. Unless one was looking for it you wouldn’t notice the difference between a doubled door and a normal one.
“Move.” Stinger told his men. They obeyed without so much as a grunt. Stinger held up his hand, palm opened. The gems on his gauntlet began to glow. There was a small shaking from the door before it flew off it’s hinges and into the wall on the other side of the room. Stinger’s men immediately entered the room once the door was gone. They stopped dead in their tracks when they saw the ruined bodies of their friends. The culprits of the killing stood around the room. Only two could be seen right now. One that looked normal and another that looked anything but normal. Stinger’s eyes widened when he saw the carnage, and they got even wider when he saw the griffon. He had heard of changes like this, but he had never seen one, and the sight was something to behold. Jakob didn’t stop once he got through the door. It wasn’t that he was more experienced then anyone else in the group that stopped him from pausing, but rather that he was, to say the least, smarter and knew that stopping wasn’t the best idea. So he charged. The ruby under his shirt glowed as he threw his throwing knife aimed at the human’s leg. He didn’t have time to decide whether he was a bearer or not, so it was best to keep him alive until Jakob could make the decision. Once Stinger realized that he had stopped he went forward following Jakob. He fired a quick shot at the griffon, not really aimed anywhere, just something to get it into a position that Stinger can use. Two of the other four stood back, still frozen. One had sense enough to run, or perhaps lack of sense, since if Stinger caught him his life was gone. The other was more experienced and found the window, and guarded it, gun in hand pointed at the griffon.

The banging on the door increased util it finally bleww of the hinges and across the room. As soo as the first man steped in the door Leo swung at him with his bat. The man flew across the room. Unfortunately Leo was soon stoped. As the other men stayed by the door way, one came rushing through. Before he knew what happened the man had already thrown a knife into Leo's leg. Leo droped to one knee, then slowly stood to his feet. Another man Shot Arguile. Arguie couldn't take much more than this, he was clearly out of the fihgt. Leo could see that there was no way he could defeat these men on his own. He had to stop this. Barely standin Leo shouted. "Stop! What do you want!"

The roar of a motorcycle engine cut the placid stillness of Palmer''s Boulevard just moments before the long yellow finger of the vehicle's single headlight swept between the lines of sycamores that grew by thr roadside. At this late hour, no one marked the thundering steed or its lone rider as they raced together up the street and turned suddenly to the left, bumping onto the driveway of number 435 and coming to a halt beside the briefly-illuminated silhouette of a battered Chevrolet. The noise died then, and the light winked to black.

Zeve slid from his seat and locked the safety system on the bike, then walked to the front door, the canvas bundle tucked under one arm. Dari would still be up waiting for him, he was sure. That was Dari. He slid the key into the lock and felt the way it turned in his fingers, the buildup of pressure that came before the faint click. Once inside, he closed the door and entered the kitchen.

The sound of the dishwasher filled the spacious and tidy room, with the table at one end and counter and appliances forming a near-enclosure at the other. A woman leaned on the counter, reading a book. She looked up at the thump of boots on the linoleum. "About time. I was starting to get worried."

"Sorry." Zeve set the bundle down on the counter and sat on a stool. "Cops got in the way. Dinner?"

"As usual." She raised an eyebrrow at the bundle. "Do I want to know?"

Zeve couldn't help a slight smirk. That was one thing about Dari. She hated his line of work, but she usually gave up trying to change the way he lived after a while. "No."

"Well, never mind then." She went to the stove and busied herself with the pans and cooking ingredients. Presently the aroma of spaghetti joined the sound of the dishwasher.

Zeve sat and watched. He liked to watch her move. She had been into dancing before the gang war, and the gliding smoothness in her motions brought calm to him. That was one reason he chose to live with her. After they had broken up, his mother and sisters often asked for reasons, and he gave as plausible as he could. She needed his support. To protect her from Gang Lord wannabes. So she could use his truck. Things like that. But the real reason was just that he liked Dari's cooking and he liked to watch her move. What other reason was necessary?

While the food warmed, she came and sat by him. “Everything all right?”

“Yeah.”

“Did you save the girl?”

“No. Perp got away. He shot her.”

“Oh.” She was quiet a moment. “That’s… bad.”

“Yeah.” He stood and picked up the bundle. “Be right back.”

“Okay.”

He crossed into the hallway and went into his room. It was well-kept with just the right amount of disarray to appear and feel lived in. He let the bundle on the dresser and changed into a fresh shirt and a pair of shorts. After washing in the adjacent bathroom, he returned to the kitchen. Dari was on te phone.

“… guess I’ll get him… Yeah… Fine.” She handed him the receiver. ‘It’s for you, Zeve.”

“Who is it/’

“I don’t know. Ask him. He says his name’s Hugh Ord.”

Elana slid through the shadows as her whole body changed to shadow as she melted into them and moved along the wall and out the door as one man ran inside the apartment. Another man stood in the doorway and was about to point a gun at Arguile when Elana leaped out of the shadow and went back to her normal form as she flew through the air. She caught herself on the man by wrapping her arms around his neck and digging her fingernails into his face.

The man yelled in horror and flailed his arms to try and get her off as she wrapped her legs around his mid-section. Poison seeped out of her nails and into the man's bloodstream. His limbs became rigid as the stun took affect, and he collapsed to the ground, unconscious. Elana snatched the gun and from her crouched position pointed the gun at the man who had thrown the knife at Leo. Her voice came out hoarse and screechy, "Stop or I'll shoot!"

((I hope I got this right, if not just tell me and I’ll fix.))

Stinger felt a heavy load land on top of his shortly after he shot the griffon. He tried to get it off, but before he had a chance he felt sharp nails dig into his neck. The room started to fade and shapes began to blur. The everything went black.
----------------------------------
Jakob turned when he heard the voice behind him, “Stop or I’ll shoot!” It was a girl, a bearer to be more precise. The one with the bat wings. It seemed ironic to Jakob that the one Stinger was after ended up being the one that took him. “Stop! What do you want!” Came a male voice behind him, most likely the human. Jakob didn’t bother turning. He looked at Stinger’s men that had just stood their while their leader was attacked. “Worthless.” He muttered under his breath. They both had their guns drawn, though neither had them raised. Something in the look Jakob gave them must have given them the hint since they both raised their guns to the girl that was between them. Jakob looked at the girl, “Would you really shoot me?” He asked as he took a step forward. It was a cautions step, nothing to alarm her and make her fire, just enough to close the space between them, and show her that he was in control. She was crouched on the ground over the body of Stinger. Jakob crouched down so that he was at eye level with her. “Take your guns off her. Keep them on the ones behind me.” He ordered the men behind her. They obeyed, not having anything better to do. Jakob looked into the girl’s eyes, “Why do you think I’m here?” He asked her.

((Oops, sorry on the knife thing, I'll edit it!))

Elana's heart beat faster as the man approached her. He took slow cautious steps toward her and crouched at eye level. Something in his eyes made pity rise up, he was buried. The real him was buried and this bitter man was what was left. His question made her heart stop, she really didn't want to kill anyone, she hated fighting, "I-I...I don't know...why are you here?" Her voice trembled as she tried to keep it strong to sound confident even though she was scared out of her mind.

((This isn't exactly going as planned, but its going.))

Now the guns were pointed at Leo and Arguile who was on the floor bleeding away. Thankfully Sly was still hidden, LEo kept looking over to the closet; he couldn't bear it if anything happened to him. Leo faught to stand as the wound in his leg caused a great deal of pain. But it appeared thay were at a stand off.

The man was clearly trying to intimidate Elana, and that really bothered Leo. Leo had always been the protective type. So here tried to step in, and distract him so that Elan might have the chance to get away. This wasn't going to end well, but he could only hope that a minimum amount of people would be hurt.

"Well, I dont care why your here, but this is my house. So just leaver her alone."

Dr. Hugh Ord smiled as the phone was answered.

"Hello?" a female voice answered.

"Hello, Darine."

"Who is this?"

"My name is Hugh Ord." he answered, "I would like to speak to Zeve."

"I guess I'll get him." She sounded hesitant.

"You doing alright, Darine?"

"Yeah."

"Good. Please put Zeve on the line."

"Fine."

"Thank you."

There a pause in which he heard the sound of therceiver being covered, a faint murmer of voices, and then a male voice spoke.

"Hello, Zeve."

((don't worry rocker, we'll get back to the fighting soon enough I suspect.))

“I-I...I don’t know...why are you here?” The bearer stammered out. Jakob had her. She was scared, and unsure of herself. That was what he would use against. Jakob so loved these moments. The fighting was all right, if you were for that kind of thing. The thrill of the chase added some excitement. But it was when you were able to stand face to face with one of them when the job really paid off. They were all so unsure of themselves. All of them possessed the fear that they would be caught. Some tried to hide it, some were even good, but when it got down to it they were all afraid. And that was what Jakob fed on. “Well I don’t care why your here, but this is my house. So just leave her alone.” Came the male’s voice behind him. This guy was starting to get on Jakob’s nerves. The other men’s gun shifted to the guy as he spoke. Jakob shook his head and spoke over his shoulder, “Correction, this was your house. This is my house now, and I will do what I please.” Jakob turned his head back to the bearer and lowered his voice enough so just she could hear him. He also did what he could to slightly raise the tone of his naturally deep voice, an attempt to make his voice sound kinder, although it didn’t sound like a pleasant angel, it did sound better, “If you think we are here to hurt you, you’re wrong. I am not a killer. I am a liberator.” Jakob took another small step forward so he was now able to reach out and touch the bearer’s wings, which he did, “These things, they have caused you nothing but hurt since you got them.” He looked into the bearer’s eyes, “I am here to cure you, not hurt you.”

“These things, they have caused you nothing but hurt since you got them.” He looked into the bearer’s eyes, “I am here to cure you, not hurt you.” His voice sounded almost kind, she felt her nerves relaxing slightly at the dim hope of him actually there to help them, he touched her wings which flinched at his hand. She glanced back at the new friends she had made with guns pointed at them, it was all so cruel, her eyes flashed to meet his, "Why did you hurt us? You tried to kill us..." She pulled back against the back wall of the hallway, and leveled the gun with his chest and cocked it with a short click, "Please, just let us go."

Jakob cursed under his breath. He was loosing her, and he only had two options. Get her back, or let her go. He glanced back at the griffon and the guy. There were only two with wings out right now. Jakob figured the guy may be a bearer, so killing him was out of the question. He looked back at the girl. She looked liked she was ready to snap any minute, and that gun didn’t make Jakob want to be in front of her when she did. This wasn’t working. She was more stubborn then Jakob had originally anticipated. It was time to change strategies. He let his voice return to its normal tone, “You think you can just walk out of here and everything will be fine? As long as you remain out here you will be hunted. If not by me then by somebody else. That is the way of things.” Jakob paused trying to gather his thoughts. “People fear what they don’t understand, and they hate what they fear. You are lucky that your kind is not widely known, but it’s only a matter of time. And once you are discovered, and confirmed to be real, not just some urban legend, but flesh and blood they will come after you with pitchforks and torches. The only way to save your kind is for us to learn more.”
-----------------------------------------------
Stinger’s eyes opened, slowly, very slowly. At first everything around him was a blur, but it soon came into focus. He saw Jakob standing near him talking, though it took Stinger a while before he could understand the words. He tried to move, but it seemed as though the rest of his body was paralyzed. He tried to piece together what had happened. That was when he remembered the claws. He looked past Jakob’s feet and saw the griffon and the guy standing. That meant that whoever attacked him must be the one Jakob was talking to to. Stinger reached for his gun, but it was gone. The gem on his left gauntlet glowed slightly. That one had healing properties. While it couldn’t save him if he was shot, it did allow him to recover quicker from most wounds. He began to get felling in his legs, and feet. He would make one quick move, which he did. He rolled, holding his right gauntlet up as he did. A wave of force energy shot from his hand at the bearer that was behind him.
