Lex steadied Paul as he strugled a little to regain his altitude.He smiled at how quickly he had done so. He remembered the first day had taken flight. It made him chuckle to see himself plunging a hundred feet from the sky after losing controil of himself. Fortunately, therehad been a lake below him. A cold lake.

"Paul..." Lex repeated after him. ""We are close to our destination. But firstI must apologize." He hesitated. "I could have done more to save your parents." Another pause. "I am sorry to have put you through this. But I want you to trust me. Can you do that?"

Paul took a quick glace at Lex. He hadn’t really thought much about what had happened yet. It was like something out of a bad dream that you woke up from in a sweat but then instantly forgot about it so you could go back to sleep. Paul shook his head, “I’m not sure who to trust any more. Just give me some time.”

Understandable. Lex thought. The kid had been through too much. He had experienced great pains, part of which had been caused by Lex himself. Paul had every right not to trust Lex, and Lex wasn't abou to change that. At least not now.

Lex gave a small nod. "Well then, Paul. I give you all the time you need." he said; turning and flapping slowly toward home. "But come with me. I'd hate to leave you alone out here."

 

[Sayci]

Elana, also being startled at his reaction, recoiled and almost fell from the balcony, a light, nervous laugh came out as she clung to the cement with the claws on her wings, "S-sorry, didn't mean to scare you...are you a-?"

A light came on from inside the apartment and Elana climbed up onto the landing of the balcony above them, her eyes wide with fright.

"What's going on?"

Arguile turned his head. Leo was looking at him warily and Sly sat on his thing looking at him with a lok of...confusion? He pointed at the cEnter text here.losed window. "Leo! Sly! We have a --" he stopped. "Huh?" He moved toward the window and peered out.

There was nothing there.

"Where did it go?" he mumbled, almost to himself. He could still sense a third presence. It was still very close. He turned back to the other two; scratching his head; confused. "Is anyone else in this shelter?"

"No,its just us here, " Leo said calmly then looked around to see what had cuased all the comotion. "Ahh, look at the mess you made." Leo sighed as he pointed to the broken pot on the floor. "Dont you think it wold be best for everyone if you put your wings away for now. " It was the middle of the night and Leo did have much patience at this point. "And will you get away from the window like that."

Arguile looked at the dirt littered about the floor. A mess? How was this a mess? He didn't see anything wrong with it. He had lived so long n the forest. In the dirt. This "mess" made him miss the forest even now.

"Thank you, Leo," he said; assuming his remark was a compliment. "it does remind me of home."

"Dont you think it wold be best for everyone if you put your wings away for now." Leo said, his voice almost a snap. "And will you get away from the window like that."

Arguile looked at the window and then back at Leo, not understanding. "Why?" he asked, curiously. But he transformed anyway.

 

[Sayci]

Elana sighed softly, "That was a close one..." After a moment she hung down a little so she could look back in the window.

By now Leo was sure this guy was some kind of nutjob. "Well, there are some not nice people that hunt bearers like us, and we'd prefer if they didn't find us." Leo explained like he was talking to a three year old. "Now, if we could all just go back to bed, I'll deal with the mess later."

"Why did you knock that over?" Sly was sitting up on the couch with a curious look on his face. Leo hadn't even thought to question what had happened. "Did something scare you, did you see something out there?" Sly asked again.

Not nice people? Who are they?

Arguile looked at Leo curiously. What was he talking about? Whom or what was hunting them? Did this have anything to do with...the storm?

He was about to ask another question when Sly suddenly piped up. "Why did you knock that over?" he asked; sitting up. "Did something scare you, did you see something out there?"

Arguile smiled. "Oh, yes. I sensed a third presence and thought I saw who it was." He glanced back at the window. "I can still sense it nearby."

Elana felt a blush creep up her cheeks as she heard them speaking about her. She was so lonely, her brother was wonderful but he rarely wanted to just talk or hang out. He was always so busy with surviving life. She wanted so badly to go down and meet them, but she didn't want to be caught, not again.

Paul just nodded without answering. It wasn’t like he had much of a choice now. They were out in the middle of who knows where, and Paul wasn’t sure he would be able to make it back to the city. His wings started to throb, and his breathing started to increase. Because of football he was in pretty good shape, but now he could feel himself getting tired.

Jakob ran from the building where he confronted the bearers, jumping over a few fences, until he was out in the clear. He quickly found a bathroom and washed the blood off his hands and cleaned his dagger off on his shirt. It was something he always did after a kill, although he wasn’t sure why. Jakob looked at the mirror and ran the scene through his head. “No!” He yelled as he drove his fist into the glass, breaking it and causing his hand to bleed. He had left his gun there. Fortunately he had gotten it off of a drug dealer that he had killed a few weeks ago, but he never liked leaving a weapon behind. It took away a piece of fear from a kill. Jakob shook his head, and after cleaning the fresh blood off of his hand, left the bathroom. He walked the streets the rest of the day, not really looking for anyone, but more of going over the scene in his head over and over. He had several chances that he had missed at the time that would have allowed him to have a bearer now in his possession. Night soon fell, and the street lamps lit the street he now walked on. There were a few bums here and there but the street was mostly empty. Jakob took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly, taking in all that was around him. The sound of a something crashing broke the silence. Jakob looked in the direction where the sound came from. In the shadows he saw something move just above a window. Jakob found a spot in the shadows on the ground and watched the window.

"A third person? " Leo asked curiously. "As in another bearer?" Leo and Sly had never really knwo there were other bearers anywhere near them , and now they were bumping into them all over the place.

"Why don't you invite them in?" Sly asked inocently.

"We cant just keep taking strange people into our home."

"they are not strange, they are like us. i bet we can learn alot from them and they can learn alot from us."

Leo opened his mouth to speak again but Sly interupted, "shhh, i think i hear somthing." Sly didn't really hear anything, but it got Leo to shut up.

 

[Sayci]

Elana slowly crept closer to the edge of the balcony and lithely climbed over the bars, she hung down slightly to glance in the window from her hunched position on the front of the balcony bars.

"No!" An angry yell rang into Elana's enhanced ears.

She took in a quick breath and scanned the darkness for the man. He was too far away to see and her curiosity of the other bearers made her turn her head to watch the window again, her body was tense from the sudden noise and she was beginning to think she should leave.

His feet made a sogt thud as he landed on the dock. He turned, preparing to catch Paul. He had taught him how to fly, but now he needed to learn how to land without crashing to the ground and breaking his bones. "Easy, buddy," Lex said, helping Paul onto the dock. "Welcome to Team Seven's headquarters, although you won't find many here."

He looked around. Cerie was somewhere around here. He had been so budy that he hadn't noticed the rumble in his stomach until now. "Oh golly..." he muttered, turning back to Paul. "Are you hungrier than I am, Paul?"

Arguile had also gone silent. He listened, straining to hear whatever Sly was referring to. But all he could hear was the rhythmic tick-tock tick-tock of the clock and the gentle hum of the big white box in the adjacent room. He glanced at the window again.

This time Arguile was even more surprised that he began jumping around the room, hooting excitedly and pointing at the window. "There it is!"

As Arguile jumped up and shouted, Leo slowly walked up to the window to see if he had actually saw something or was just crazy. (Leo had his money on the second one.) But as he approached the window he too saw a figure peerched on the edge on the balcony bars not too far from the window. He began to open the window, but first turned back to Arguile, "Will you be quiet and please put those things away." He said referring to his large hawk wings. Leo stuck his head out of the window. "Who' there? We're not goin to hurt you." he didn't want to risk scaring off another bearer.

 

[Sayci]

"Who' there? We're not goin to hurt you." one of the men inside had opened the window and spoken to her.

She was so scared, how could she be sure it wasn't a trap like Jazen had warned her about? Elana pressed herself against the balcony in fear, "How do I know that?" Her limbs were growing weary from holding herself in the same still position, but she held strong, her curiosity was too great.

To be honest, Leo was surprised that the figure, or rather the girl, had even responded. How would she know that they weren't lying. He just had to try hi best to convince her otherwise. He remeber when he first discovered his wings, how he was so confused and felt so alone. She coud very well be feling the same way right now.

"Listen, I dont know what you've seen or heard already." He gave Arguile a dirty look, "But we're like you, and i think we might be able to answer some questions you have, or you might be able to answer some of ours. but we dont want to draw any atention to ourselves. You can come in if you like."
