The employees aren't evil-minded -- the executives are. The employees are just incompetent for the most part.

What type of hardware? If you're referring to basic hardware, the hardware you're using isn't high quality because they don't have open specifications. Look at the linux kernel compile menu and you'll see how much hardware support there really is. Maybe you've never tried to recompile a kernel?
Linux has a wider range of hardware support than Windows. Programming hardware applications for Windows is a pain in the neck -- Linux I/O and hardware programming is much more straightforward, reliable, and easy.

Windows runs very fast on my computer and does everything that I want it to do.
And you have the latest hardware? I can run Linux on an old 533MHz celeron with better performance than Windows in 1.5GHz.

I will definately get windows vista as it looks very cool and modern (although I hate the start menus windows uses!).
Yeah, but the backend is junk. So much for Microsoft's new filesystem.

As long as they have a decent working product (like windows xp not ME!) I am happy.
Windows is great for basic home use. It's pretty good for small office workstations.
Try to run it in a demanding environment and see what happens.

Not to mention that Linux is the choice for scientific and medical applications.
