I didn't SAY I was using it, I can't, my software does not work with it. I know software programmers that are using it though, their reports are that it does not work with certain development applications, some of which I am using.

It will be in "testing" long after release just like XP was. Just like 3.X, 95, 98 and ME for that matter. Even M$ DOS was buggy when it was first released as I remember. The only M$ product that "worked" out of the box was 98SE... but then again that was really just a repaired 98 version.

Reading about this last night (PC World) it will be quite some time before Vista is available on budget laptops because of the enormous strains it takes on resources. So getting a cheap laptop with Vista seems hardily possible for a good long time :(

The article also said that many of the laptops today will not be able to handle it ither, and laptops with Vista will ship six months after the initial release of the OS.
That's cool with me. I've been waiting since 2001 already. What's six more months? LOL
^_^ It's not like I'm drooling or anything. I just basically want to play with it. I look at Vista like I look at any M$ OS...as a toy.

i don't see Mac using a pretty start menu... unless you consider that bar on the top a good looker...

do i see Glass on the Mac desktops? no.

It took mac a few years to adopt something with a right click...

and look who's dominating the market

in terms of usefulness and versatility, i will go with MS until i find a major greivance...
Mac doesn't need a start menu! Besides, who cliks Start to Shut Down anyways? LOL I don't know about Glass, but how about Aqua? Mac's have been right-clicking for a long time. It's called an Option Click. And right mouse buttons do work on a Mac. Market dominance? Since when is that a mark of quality? ;)

Yeah, I want OS support for my 64bit processor when I'm running M$, so yes I'm waiting for this to be out and in working order.

Just make sure you got at least a 2 gigahertz processor and at least 512 meg ram, a 40 gig HD.

But I feel like it is going to another expensive piece of junk of M$. Probably an upgrade will be $149.00 USD for it.

I do not want their piece of garbage. XP has been the worst OS ever. I have tried some linux like Linspire & Xandros OS but they come short for what I need, but they are gaining ground. I think MS is going to have a hard time pushing more garbage off on people. My next OS is probably going to be linux based. I am sick of M$ high dollar garbage.

for the majority of people, Windows does its job... almost adequately...

but if you're an advanced user of computers and you hate microsoft, you should have no problem going to Mac or some other OS...

did i miss any insignificant user groups in that sorting?

Wow...I don't even know where to begin!! Um, let's see. There's all sorts of trust issues I have with M$. There's the fact that I don't trust them to make a quality product. Also their concepts can be...backwards. And the fact that they tend to rip off other companies more than actually engineer their own software/OS from the ground up.

One concept in particular I've always had serious issues with is how IE is integrated into the OS. That was, and is, a boneheaded move.
They released Windows Me. That *alone* makes me not want to ever trust them again!! ^_^ And about the ripping off thing...I like to use Apple as an example, but Word is a ripoff of WordPerfect. The list of M$ ripoffs is long and old. One recent one is how they are ripping off Google. http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/11/30/0544256&from=rss Yes, I used Google to look that up. ;)

Here's a good site I used to view quite a bit:

I'm just thankful that at least IE is no longer integrated into Windows Explorer like it was in Win98. That caused no end of trouble when IE got corrupted and suddenly we couldn't access our files normally anymore. One of the few times P2P networks came in handy, to say the least. Ended up downloading Netscape's browser and used that to find a different file manager that I could use to prepare the data to be backed up so we could format and start over. Didn't really change much, since we ended up buying a new XP like three months later, and the main problem with that one is pretty much just my family's seeming ineptitude at computer maintenance and security. My XP computer runs faster and cleaner than their's does and mine's 2 years older with less powerful specs to boot.

Microsoft are not as nearly as bad people make them out to be. I have tried using linux but because of:

unsupported hardware
unsupported software
lack of decent programs

I have basically given up. Windows runs very fast on my computer and does everything that I want it to do. I will definately get windows vista as it looks very cool and modern (although I hate the start menus windows uses!). I don't care if Microsoft have copied other companies. As long as they have a decent working product (like windows xp not ME!) I am happy. :)

Are you referring to Luna or to the menus in general? I have mine set to Classic mode, so it looks the same as the previous systems' Start menus.

The employees aren't evil-minded -- the executives are. The employees are just incompetent for the most part.

What type of hardware? If you're referring to basic hardware, the hardware you're using isn't high quality because they don't have open specifications. Look at the linux kernel compile menu and you'll see how much hardware support there really is. Maybe you've never tried to recompile a kernel?
Linux has a wider range of hardware support than Windows. Programming hardware applications for Windows is a pain in the neck -- Linux I/O and hardware programming is much more straightforward, reliable, and easy.

Wine emulator will work in many cases. There are many alternatives available as well. What Windows applications do you want to work on Linux?

Mikesoft said:

Uhh not quite. Go to GNU.org and click free software directory. There's much higher quality apps available for Linux.

One note... Linux takes longer to understand than does Windows. For obvious reasons.

And you have the latest hardware? I can run Linux on an old 533MHz celeron with better performance than Windows in 1.5GHz.

Yeah, but the backend is junk. So much for Microsoft's new filesystem.

Windows is great for basic home use. It's pretty good for small office workstations.
Try to run it in a demanding environment and see what happens. :) Not to mention that Linux is the choice for scientific and medical applications.

That's the thing, some people just want to use there computer, they don't want to "Understand" it, but just use it with what they have, and for playing games.

Understand meaning learn how to use. That's perfectly OK -- that's why there are programmers and users. The only problem is that most Windows users become ignorant about technology. When they hear "computer", they think "Windows".

I'm sticking with Windows 2000 SP 4, It's the best OS I've used (never tryed Linux, but I'm probably going to DL it tonight), XP sucks up ALL my resources, and drops my FPS in EVERY game from 100-400 to 15, MAXIMUM.
I can't explain why, two weeks after formatting it happens.
I am the only person who has had this problem (that I know of anyway), no one can help me so mer.

Visa is probably just going to be... Well, I'll just wait and see I guess.

In a year or two, I'll Install it.
