Jesus will return to set up His Kingdom...The Kingdom of God.
Every kingdom has four things 1.) A king 2.) Territory 3.) Subjects 4.) Laws.

Jesus said He was born to become a king. Jo. 18:37 Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”

Jesus said His kingdom was not of this world/age. Jo. 18:36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.”

Jesus’ disciples asked if He would restore the kingdom now. Act. 1:6-7 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.

In Mat. 24 Jesus, speaking of His return, says that things will be so bad on earth that no one would survive if He did not return and take control. Mat. 24:21-22 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.

When Jesus returns He will take over rulership of all the ruling kingdoms/governments on earth at the time. Rev. 11:15 Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!”

Those resurrected at that time will reign with Christ in His Kingdom (i.e. the Kingdom of God.) Rev. 20:6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

There are dozens of prophecies about that time. They speak of the desert blooming like a rose. They speak about the world being filled with the knowledge of God, covering the earth like the waters cover the seas. They speak of the lion lying down with the lamb and children playing with poisonous snakes and there being no danger from such things. Every man will sit under his vine and fig tree and no one will make him afraid.
And on and on………….

These all speak of the time when Jesus returns and sets up the Kingdom of God; when Jesus shall be King of kings and Lord of lords. This is the Gospel of the Kingdom Jesus came preaching.

The 1000 years is not literal. Most of Revelations is no literal, and their numbers are not literal, but mostly symbolic. As far as the question, well, here's what it says in Matthew that I read a few weeks back that explains plain as day that whomever (Christians) is alive when the antichrist comes, will go through that tribulation (as we have been going through the end times since Christ's Resurrectiona and Ascension into heaven), and that for the sake of His elect, he will return before all perish:

Matt. 24:4 And Jesus answerd and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. 6 Andyou will hear of wars and rumors of wars. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Reading this, it's plain as day that Christians will be on Earth through the Great Tribulation until Christ's return. Notice the key parts in the verses about His returning for the sake of His elect (lest all would perish), and the fact that it says "immediately after the tribulation of those days....." It doesn't say Christ comes before this to gather His remaining faithful.

People seriously forget Isaiah 65 when considering what heaven will be like...this was the first reading last week on Easter.

"Behold, I will create
new heavens and a new earth.
The former things will not be remembered,
nor will they come to mind. 18 But be glad and rejoice forever
in what I will create,
for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight
and its people a joy.
19 I will rejoice over Jerusalem
and take delight in my people;

Take revelation, plus a few verse from Isaiah which speak to the earth being completely desolate, and you can see that it is quite literal. Don't forget that Revelation says the rest of the dead did no live until after the 1k years were finished.

When in heaven, for the 1k years we will "judge angels" as Paul puts it. God will bring to our understanding many things that we didn't understand here. Ever tear will be wiped away from their eyes. It will be a sabbath of rest if you will. After it is over we come back to earth, as the bible says and Christ executes judgment on the wicked. After that He creates a new heaven and a new earth.

I never said that we go to heaven before the tribulation. I fully agree that we will be on earth through the time of trouble. "These are they that came through great tribulation". That is what the book of revelation says.

Hmmm, must've been somebody else's comments on the Rapture that got me all fired up. Sorry about that. I suppose your perspective on "we come back to Earth," kinda confuses me. I'm guessing you mean when Christ returns (His Second and last Coming), that the dead will arise first, then the living on Earth then will rise and their bodies and souls will be reunited in a glorified state and be with Christ eternally. AT least that's the way I understand it.

No apologies needed for the whole rapture thing. It happens

From what the bible teaches, When Christ returns, He will retrieve His children and raise up the dead in Christ. Those who are alive that are wicked will be destroyed by the brightness of His coming. He than takes His children from all ages to the third heaven. There we spend 1k years enjoying heaven, while Satan is given a 1k year time-out down here on earth. Once that is over we return to the earth where God will, after destroying sin and sinners, create a new earth and give it to His children as an inheritance.

Ah, I see where you're coming from. We believe we're living that now (Satan bound and such). Since he comes back a second time (no more than that), this is when the dead will rise, and He gathers up His faithful (who are reunited with their earthily bodies that are in a glorified state as Christ's body was when He resurrected from the tomb) and those who've denied him will be no more, and we are with Him in his Kingdom forever. Understand my perspective?

If Jesus is not ot return to reign physically on this earth, I find it highly odd he taught the Apostles for forty days after His resurrection and did not disabuse them of this very common idea held by Jews at that time:

So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." (Acts 1:6-8)

Indeed, He seems to corroborate their concept of Messiah's coming earthly rule.

No, I don't believe he will reign physically on this earth we are on now. Yes, I believe he will return as the prophet says, and also the angels that were there at his ascention and told those that 'saw him off' that he would return in the exact same manner. But the way I see it isn't like that of most, like he gently touches down. Rather he will arrived in what is discribed as a whirlwind in Ezekiel (of the L-RDs arrival in his chariot) and also as a pillar of cloud, which if you think about it, both describe a funnel cloud, like that of a tornado. What is at the core or center, all is calm, and all is hidden, so I see this as the L-RD. We read in Exodus about what transpired right before the Red Sea crossing:

24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the L-RD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,

Paul uses the words clouds (cloudiness) and air (blast, breath of life)....in 1Thes14

Paul also uses cloud(s) in Heb12:1 to represent a mass multitude...
and we know from many scriptures that Christ comes with masses...clouds of believers from heaven

Paul also uses the word pneuma in 1Cor15, to teach us of the mystery change that happens to all flesh at Christ's Coming...
the change from flesh and blood, into the breath of life/spiritual body

that Christ will return with the dead believers,

those faithful believers alive one arth at that time,
will be changed into the same air/pneuma body that they coming from heaven have...
