  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok... I typically don't watch TV, but watched "Wifeswap" last night. I absolutely kept LOL. Where do they get these people???

I am a tree hugger, but watching that lady last night made me want to go buy a chain saw!!!

Anyone else watch this show? It does prove that the grass is not always greener, but that we just need to spend more time working on our own yard! ;)

Can anyone explain to me why the South Carolina wife make that poor little girl say "Ma'am" after addressing her?
She was really big on respect for parents. No interrupting, and use sir and ma'am when addressed. Her own kids had no problems with it.

These kinds of shows, at first glance, are easy to dismiss as garbage a christian shouldn't watch. But if you look at the overall picture, this show is all about learning from others how to be better spouses and parents. You can learn from others either through their qualities or their faults.

The dads both needed help. Redneck dad was too self serving and hippy dad was too liberal.

I agree. My mom didn't like the name of the show, but I watched it anyway, and it wasn't as bad as the name would lead you to first think. It could help everyone learn in their marriages how to be better spouses.

I think that's radical to make your own kids call you "ma'am", let alone making some little girl this woman only met a week before say it. I don't understand what this woman was trying to accomplish in a week with this girl, besides making the girl despise her.

And that's what makes it good television

In a strange coincidence, I actually got to meet the people from SC. I was in New York this week with some friends and they were staying at the hotel we were in. We were getting are bags from storage at the same time. They were actually very nice people. They were telling us about their adventures. The husband said "She (his wife) cried when she left and cried when she came back."

As for the ma'am thing, I think it is a respect issue. Perhaps a southern issue as well. Does it hurt a child to say yes ma'am and no ma'am for a week? I don't think so. I think she was trying to teach the child some responsibility and respect for her elders.

I thought it was amusing that the woman from Arkansas said that when she returned she thought that she was the best mother in the world. If I grew up in a house that was a complete garbage bin as her's was, I think I would have a different view.....

I am from the south and have always said ma'am and sir...it is a respect issue....if you are from here...you will realize that it is disrespectful not to....it's part of our culture...as with where anybody else lives they may do things differently. I don't think it would kill a child to have a little respect for their elders...it's not degrading...It's just like if you called someone miss or mrs or mr....is that degrading you?
