• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My wife has add. how do i know? she never listens to me and when I ask her if she just heard me? What?
I have to repeat everything to her at least twice. Really it drives me mad and angers me to know end. What meds can help with this. She does admit she has add in its classic form. I think my son 4 year old may have it as well. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe I need the medication

Has she actually been diagnosed and gotten a second, even third opinion by a professional or are you just assuming based on symptoms? If she has they should have gone over medical options with her. If not ask her if she's willing to go get a diagnosis from 2 or 3 different doctors. Try to find at least one who is known for NOT making a diagnosis of ADD/ADHD without a lot of evidence. It's over diagnosed as is. Everyone and their mother has it these days.

If you think your wife has ADD, you should see a Dr. From personal experience, not hearing a person when they talk is often a common part of the disorder. There are a few medications out there that can help relieve the symptoms of ADD. I take Adderall, as perscribed by my Dr. and it makes a tremendous difference in my effectiveness as a person. The downside of taking medications for ADD, is that they are very addictive. In fact, I have struggled with this issue, and it is very miserable for everyone involved. Overcoming the addiction has been a rough process. So Beware of this if you choose medication as a treatment.
Until you see a Dr. there are several things you can do to make life easier. Make a daily routine and write to do lists for your wife. When it comes to cleaning, she should focus on one room at a time. And when you want to talk to her, you should try to get rid of any other noise or distractions. Make her look at you. Otherwise, her thoughts will wander with her eyes and she will not concentrate on you are saying. Exercise is also very beneficial for people trying to cope with ADD.
I will be praying for you and your wife.
